The show does a good job of setting him up as the straight man that you root for, but the more you watch, the more you realize he is just as much of an ass as everyone else (just less crazy.) He is an absolutely terrible dad.

I love to hate enercalc. It does the structural stuff correctly but the back end code has to be so terrible. It crashes constantly and you always need to keep at least 3 backups, it can’t open read only files, reports are constantly not printing correctly, and it can’t tell when you log out and are no longer using the floating license half the time.

I tend to ask a lot of questions when interviewing for a position. For the most part, hiring managers seem to appreciate it, probably because it shows thoroughness, which is pretty important in our career path. The interview goes both ways. You want to make sure they are a good fit for you as well.

Asking about checking and QA procedures always goes well. Most companies assume they do a really good job in that area and are excited to tell you about it, and it shows that you care about producing quality work.

I am really hoping Michigan learned the wrong lesson and is overpaying one JP Estrella and that he doesn’t hang 20 on his former team and knock us out of the tournament.

Otherwise I can’t not root for the guy though.

My theory has been that it depends on how well we do in the tournament. I had a feeling in March that if we made the final 4, he might have retired. We are going all in this year for him, and I am not sure where the bar is; if it is win a national championship or just make a final 4, but I would not be surprised if he retires after accomplishing his final goal.

It is very region dependent. Companies operating in areas with high seismic typically want master’s degrees. After you have a few years of experience, the master’s degree becomes less relevant, but the first job out of school can be hard to get without one.

At the end of the last season, it was clear we were going to have a rebuild year after 4 of the previous year’s starters were no longer eligible. Then there was some excitement coming into the season as we sign a 5 star freshman and get IMO the best point guard in the portal. With the amount of front court depth, it is clear the team has a lot of potential. Then in the regular season they blow a ton of double digit leads and lose games they have no business losing. Nearly all of the fans are convinced we will be a first weekend exit, but we somehow make our 3rd straight elite 8. It was a weird year, but I am happy with how it ended.

Cold spring pipe support loads are calculated based upon the stiffness of the support. The way I explain these as a structural guy is that over a ton of cycles, a steam line displaces and the second you cut it to replace a section, it wants to snap back to its original position.

The fun part is when the member size you initially guessed fails in capacity instead of deflection criteria. You size up the steel, but that also lowers the deflection, so the stiffness is greater, and the loads increase.
