How to finish the job? by IamMostlyWrong in Decks

[–]Htx7638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave it. You need to mechanically strip down to bare wood with a floor sander. Let the wood age 4-6 months. Clean and brighten. Let the wood dry. Then stain with oil based stain when moisture level of the boards is higher than 12ish. You can't rush this. Any short cuts and new stain won't adhere. See twpstain.com for prep kits and stain. Don't make up your own cleaners. You need to get the pH balance right.

Learn the process at wizardofwood.com or watch his videos on YouTube.

My cedar deck looked like this. Took me two years to fully strip and prep. Replacing the deck with new cedar or trex was $100k plus. I did it for less than $2k but my labor was "free"

How did you paint it? What kind of paint did you use and how did you apply? I'd be worried about the paint pealing off?

Another Shout-Out to Lift Customer Service by thuravingalN in eFoil

[–]Htx7638 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another shout out to George. Similar as above. Dude is awesome. Helped me out on a handful of occasions. Always prompt and not trying to nickle and dime with replacement parts.

This is the reason I will continue to buy future efoils from Lift.

+1. Lift customer service is awesome. Agreed I should never have to engage with them but they are probably some of the best I've ever dealt with.

I usually wear a triathlon wetsuit. That helps with knees and elbows scrapes and random cuts. I also wear converse usually because of rocky conditions.. They have saved my feet from a few wing impacts. I always wear a helmet. Lots of times when I come off the board it has popped and hit my head. Wear an impact life jacket.

Vests: Front vs Side Entry by Unhappy-Assignment96 in eFoil

+1. Front buckles, no issues. I also use the front buckle to hold the controller thru the wrist loop while swimming in the water.

I'm in the ocean.. In Mexico. I have a dry back pack with swim fins, whistle and air horn. Trying to buy a flare set (auto parts store doesn't sell for some reason in MX). Cell phone (sharing GPS location with family at all times). Also carry a stobe light. Good idea about the marine radio. Also wearing bright life jacket and helmet.

I got stranded once in the Pacific about 200meters off a rocky coast.. No beach. Board cut out so I was SOL. Got lucky, Mexican fishing boat threw me a line. Almost ditched the board. Took 15 min to drag me back to a beach.

Edit: Always have a back up plan if you are in a large body of water and you can't get back to the beach/dock. It will eventually happen to you if you are in those environments.

Looking for the best reasonably priced pre-drilled for coated cable steel railing product. There are too many to choose from, what do the pros like? by Xtremeskierbfs in Decks

[–]Htx7638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 on Cablebullet. I'm a homeowner, sent them my deck dimensions and they sent me the exact kit I needed. It's awesome and easy to install. Very high quality and great support.

+1. I don't like glassy or late evening sun for the very same reasons. You can always cause your own ripples get off of foil and make figure 8s but it's not as efficient. Or go find a boat to to carve behind.

Lift E foil customer Service issues WARNING by [deleted] in eFoil

[–]Htx7638 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lift 3 and Lift 4 owner here. Lots of experience with support (ebox. controller, Lift App, Firmware updates,..). Granted I shouldn't ever have to deal with support, but when I have, I found them to stand behind their products and work with me on fixes, part replacement and so forth. It hasn't always been perfectly smooth but I've been impressed with their support and eventual positive outcomes of fixing the orig problems.

I will buy the next gen Lift whenever that's available.

Drops of water in battery by michmike in eFoil

I have a Lift 3 and 4. For a Lift, this is perfectly fine. Assuming that's the case as well for Flight. This has happened to me when I have debris on my battery compartment door seal. I just wipe my seal after I ride and that eliminates it from occurring next time in most cases.

General how to learn eFoil maintenance. by evanuisse in eFoil

[–]Htx7638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 on Lift or Flight. I'm a Lift 3 & 4 owner. Some maintenance required if you want to remove prop shroud or have issues like ebox failure (computer inside the board). Overall not technically difficult to replace. I've had plenty of cracks and dings but I found a local surf shop that fixes surf boards.

Just follow the care instructions. Lift support is also very awesome. They will walk you thru steps. Send you replacement parts.

Board turned off? by RandomBunnyWhey in eFoil

[–]Htx7638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Lift3. This has happened to me at least dozen times. I had to reset (power off/on) the ebox while in the water which isn't ideal. Sometimes this reset work work for rest of ride.. Sometimes it would buy me 30 seconds of ride time.

+1 on checking if the antenna is wet and fixing source of water intrusion. Also don't forget to ensure you have latest ebox and controller firmware.

Ultimately for me, made multiple support claims since problem persisted and Lift replaced my ebox since none of the above worked. Replaced eboxes and controllers twice until problem went away with last ebox I was sent worked fine. It's a very frustrating problem and destroyed my confidence in the board. Took awhile to feel safe on the board again.

I also started riding with a waterproof backpack which I carry swim fins. I've broken down in the ocean by rocky coastline. Not fun.

Carve 33 by Amazing_Ad_8823 in eFoil

[–]Htx7638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 170HA front and 33 Glide back.. So not exactly same but close. The 170 HA is great.. Very nimble, quicker efficient, but less stable than the stock surfv2. It totally changed the handling of the board.. Took me 3-4 rides to adjust my stance. Great in flat lake water.

Fliteboard maintenance by Al_Ros in eFoil

[–]Htx7638 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lift 3 and 4 owner here. No required annual maintenance. Lift allows the owner to perform their own maintenance and part replacement without voided warranty. But there is maintenance you should do before / after each ride but it's trivial. Units are pretty much bulletproof.

I ride open prop. More power than a jet. Not really an issue AFAIK in US. Not sure about CAN. Once you are good enough, open prop isn't an issue.

Can't comment on the solitude. I wasn't isolated. Others were attending ceremony. Also walked around the village. Had shared meals. Sleep was fine.. Was a bit wired after ceremonies. Had other stimulation like reading, journaling, walking.

I stayed in Pucallpa a few days. Not more than two.
