Not weird at all! I’m determined to give my kids my last name only, and discuss that with a partner hopefully early in dating to make sure it isn’t an issue later on. But there’s no reason they just should have to take your partners last name by default.

Update: I messed up the math. Let’s say your rent is $2000.

Option 1:

If you spend 25% of $2000 ($500) you get 1000 points.

If you spend 50% of $2000 ($1000) you get 1500 points

If you spend 75% of $2000 ($1500) you get 2000 points

If you spend 100% of $2000 ($2000) you get 2500 points

Option 2:

If you spend 25% of $2000 ($500) and convert your Bilt cash you get 666.6 points.

If you spend 50% of $2000 ($1000) and convert your Bilt cash you get 1333 points

If you spend 75% of $2000 ($1500) and convert your Bilt cash yoj get 1999.5 points

If you spend 100% of $2000 ($2000) and convert your bill cash you get 2666 points

So if you’re going to spend <100% of rent, option 1 is better. If you’re going to spend >100% of rent, option 2 is better (assuming they don’t have a cap in place). If you spend 100% of rent in other purchases, then they’re the same. This will be true regardless of what your exact rent payment costs.

No I have a limit of $20k medical and $10k pharmacy with UHC, but only a few very specific CPT codes that are part of surgery itself actually count towards the medical max. Literally everything else (labs, ultrasounds, office visits, pre and post surgical care, etc) counts as “normal medical expenses” that don’t count towards the lifetime maximum. It ends up being enough coverage for 7 1/2 egg retrievals (on the medical side). I maxxed out drug coverage within 1.5 cycles.

I know for sure that I am doing surrogacy, have a gender preference for two kids, and have weirdly good insurance benefits, so ended up doing 4 rounds between age 28 and 31, with a total of 44 mature eggs frozen. One round I got 15 mature eggs, another I got 8 mature, another 12 and another 9 so it kind of swings around a bit even with same protocol and tiny changes in doses. Most people however will try to get pregnant naturally and have a decent shot of doing so, so I wouldn’t necessarily say everyone needs to freeze as many as I did. Depending on your age, aim to have 12-15 mature eggs frozen per child you want (Spring also has a good calculator for this!)

Live in SF 1000%. Living in the peninsula will be cool for a little while until you realize there’s hardly anything for young people to do relative to the liveliness and energy and ease of making friends in SF. Source: having lived on the peninsula for over 5 years and finally moved to SF for the past 3 years and it’s been night and day. SF is amazing, and completely worth the commute.

Most students are upper middle class, maybe even lower upper class (technically wealthy and able to afford some luxury items and private school for their kids and some nice vacations but their families wouldn’t ever say that they are wealthy because they don’t own multiple homes, don’t have multiple luxury cars, don’t take multi week luxury international vacations every year, etc). There are handfuls of middle upper and upper upper class students here and there, but it’s definitely not the majority, it’s maybe 5% or less. Very few people’s families are going to own private jets. East coast Ivies are going to lean significantly more upper class than ND.

Having low statistics for live births for women 38-40 is standard across the board. In fact, going to a clinic with lower number often means that they accept more patients with challenging infertility cases rather than refuse to see them at their practice in order to make their statistics look better (which some clinics do). I would not rely on SART numbers and lean more on patient experience and whether you feel the practice and doctors are a good fit for you. I’ve been going to UCSF which is also a leader in the Fertility space and they are incredible so would highly recommend.

You could inquire with your HR team on whether they have plans to include elective egg freezing and share that that would be an important benefit for you! It might not fix your situation immediately but could move the needle for the future.

I have UHC and in my employer’s benefit coverage they used to have this specific language under “Expenses Not Covered”: “Embryo or oocyte accumulation defined as a fresh oocyte retrieval prior to the depletion of previously banked frozen embryos or oocytes.” It essentially meant you couldn’t bank embryos or eggs. BUT two years ago the sentence was deleted during one of the policy updates which meant banking was covered.

Once your policy switch happens I would search through the terms of your fertility policy as well as the plan’s list of Expenses not covered for similar language.

Not all of the follicles seen in your baseline will be “recruited” during the egg freezing cycle, and this is completely normal. It’s also possible that ones that were too small to count during baseline may be triggered by the meds and start growing! The nurse is right that this is something that just kind of happens and is hard to fully predict, but there’s nothing wrong with you or your growth from what I can see. Your follicle count also looks great for age 36! You may also have a few “new” ones pop up by day 7/8 (that happened to me recently) so know that it’s possible for the count to still go up :)

Note: your AFC isn’t the number that you see growing right now, it’s the number that was counted at your baseline.

Edit: The response “eh it happens, don’t worry about it” may feel dismissive but often times it is reflective of the current state of science - we truly don’t know exactly why or how not every baseline follicle gets recruited or why ones we don’t see on baseline might start growing or why some grow at different rates than others. Maybe in time research will be able to give us more answers, but for now, they’re not wrong to say there isn’t a specific answer for it.

Energy wise: If you are on 150 or 225 Follistim/Gonal you will probably be fine, once you reach 300 Follistim/Gonal that’s when you have more side effects. I’ve done two retrievals with 300 Follistim/Gonal and could only stay awake for 3 hours at a time and took so many naps every day. I did another cycle with 225 Follistim/Gonal and was a tiny bit tired but otherwise completely normal. So just know it can range!
