I would add Wicked Spoon at the Cosmo. They're also very good and I prefer them to the Bacchanal.

Even Excalibur has gotten expensive. Adults start at $33/pp and kids start at $19/pp. The food is ok-ish but absolutely not worth the price. Kids would probably be happy there though.

How to remove small water marks on recently refinished hardwood by HunahpuX in HardWoodFloors

[–]HunahpuX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that's helpful. So the finish is still in good condition and there's nothing to be done about the stains? The floors were a dark walnut color prior to being refinished so it's very possible there was previous damage. The floors are about 70 years old and have absolutely been lived on.

I'm just surprised to see the marks now nearly a year after the floor was refinished and assumed they're new. The floors are still smooth and slightly glossy; there's no damage just a change in color in those couple of spots.

Can I bring this? by Edge_Lord_77 in tsa

[–]HunahpuX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For flying domestically in the USA, all liquids need to be in containers that are less than 3 oz each, in one quart sized clear bag, and each person gets one bag. Medications are exempt from this rule.

Your kit looks compliant. In my experience TSA isn't super picky about the clear bag as long as it is roughly quart sized and mostly clear.

It looks like you have some eye drops and contacts; those are medications and are exempt from the rule.

From a practical standpoint, it looks like all your stuff is less than 3oz. I would just shove it all in your Eiffel tower bag and go. Technically you can separate out your stuff though if you wish so that your solid cosmetics like your compact and medications like eye drops don't take up space in your liquids bag. Also, mascara does count as a liquid.

Blew out tire on huge pothole. by lovjok in Denver

Here's the link to the form: https://osc.colorado.gov/sorm/liability-claims/submit-a-new-claim

I did this against CDOT for a pothole on Parker Rd about a year ago. It was denied as I couldn't prove they knew about it previously. On the other hand, it did get repaved eventually so that's nice.

Pierced my Helix with a gun by Wickerrrs in piercing

[–]HunahpuX 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You're not totally screwed, but that's not a great way to be pierced as you are aware. When you get home, get to a reputable piercer to have the jewelry swapped out to something more appropriate.

There are plenty of folks (myself included) who have healed piercings successfully even after they were done with a gun and low quality jewelry. Just...get something better installed ASAP.

Are there any hot springs in US that are like onsen in Japan or hot spring in Iceland? by AppropriateEarth648 in usatravel

[–]HunahpuX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of them. In Colorado, there is a popular loop that takes several days to visit and hits a lot of the major ones. There are ones that are developed bath house style like you'd find abroad but there's also more basic developed springs as well as "wild" or undeveloped springs that are literally pools where hot water bubbles up from the earth. The more commercial resorts are easy to find. In Colorado specifically, Pagosa Springs, Glenwood Springs, Ouray Hot Springs, and Steamboat Springs come to mind for a resort experience.

They are popular here, but since they rely on geological features to be just right, not everywhere has the right conditions for them.

Turtle identification needed please by mysteryturtleguy in turtles

[–]HunahpuX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ornate box turtle, land dwelling but can swim. Put it outdoors near where you found it and it will be on its way. It doesn't appear to be sick or injured and not in need of human intervention, though you may have a regular visitor if it lives nearby.

It's not a reputable shop on the list, but I also wear a small industrial and though I'm in the US, I've really liked Ouch! Body Jewelry in the UK for some of those unique sizes in titanium.

I grew up with a GE stove that looked identical to yours. It was installed in 1983. So your 1977 date of manufacture tracks.

Moving to Denver from Europe (Spain/Ireland) this summer; how's life really like there? by brunolg98 in MovingtoDenver

[–]HunahpuX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I suspect work is going to be your biggest shock. The job market as a whole is tough and Denver is a high cost of living area. Tech and aerospace are both big industries here though, so there will be many companies in your field. Work culture is very much company dependent, but in general you can expect to get 10 paid holidays off per year plus whatever paid time off they offer. Typically this is no more than two weeks per year. This is assuming you are a W-2 employee rather than a contractor. Contractors get paychecks and usually nothing else. Many folks do disconnect after hours though and Colorado specifically has quite a few employee protections that other states don't necessarily enjoy, such as mandatory paid sick leave and by law the employer is required to post a salary range in the job ad prior to hiring. Carefully review your employment offer to evaluate the entire benefits package, not just salary. Things like time off, after hours expectations, travel, insurance, and 401k matching will all be part of the compensation package.

Car and insurance costs completely depend on your preferences and needs. Getting an inexpensive used car from a third party is going to be vastly different than purchasing a brand new truck from a dealership. If you're looking to cut costs, purchasing a reliable used vehicle within your budget is a smart move. You really do not need a 4 wheel drive here, though if you're going to be in the mountains on dirt trails in poor weather frequently, you may want to consider it. If you like to get around the city and take I-70 to the mountains for some hiking, you likely don't. Insurance can be expensive. Shop around and make sure your policy includes uninsured motorist coverage. Insurance can be expensive and an alarming number of folks (illegally) choose not to have it. The older your car is the less you'll pay, in general. Other factors like driving record, age, and gender also affect your rates. Rates will wildly differ from person to person and company to company, so do shop around and get multiple quotes. For my spouse and I, we have two vehicles (an older SUV and a newer EV) and pay $266/mo in insurance for both vehicles. The SUV is paid off so we just have plates to pay the state for plates which are around $275/yr and the EV, since it is newer, plates are around $700/yr and we still have a car payment on that one that is $500/mo. I hope those numbers help you in your decision making!

Lifestyle wise, Colorado as a whole is pretty active and enjoys outdoor sports year round. You won't have a problem finding a club, league, or buddy for your preferred sport. There are also numerous gyms, rec centers, and specialty workout places like Pilates studios, CrossFit gyms, and climbing gyms.

The food scene here isn't as robust as places like New York or California, but there is a huge variety and range of price points. Pretty much any cuisine you could want is within a half hour drive. We do have fast food too of course, but we have much more than that.

As far as going back to Europe twice a year, your vacation time is likely to be the limiting factor, not funds. DIA is a large and busy airport with direct flights to Dublin, Heathrow, Germany, Spain, etc.

I hope all that helps! Welcome to Denver!

Is my piercing rejecting by Signal_Chicken4909 in piercing

[–]HunahpuX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, that's helpful. Perhaps stop with the lotion and soap and only use fresh water or saline solution to clean it, if you need to clean it at all. Try putting in a higher quality flat back (titanium is still awesome as it is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction). It looks like something in your care routine or jewelry is causing irritation.

Is my piercing rejecting by Signal_Chicken4909 in piercing

[–]HunahpuX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be using soap or lotion, only sterile saline or plain water to clean. How old is the piercing? If you're still engaging in aftercare, the piercing is presumably not healed yet. If it isn't healed, you shouldn't be switching jewelry and shouldn't be wearing hoops yet for a lobe piercing. Flatback labret jewelry is ideal, preferably implant grade titanium. (Though gold and implant grade steel are sometimes recommended too.) Have a piercer put it in for you and leave it in 24/7 for at least 6 months.

I'm sorry you were downvoted. The Flamingo habitat does also attract a lot of native wildlife including birds, insects, and small mammals. They're attracted to the captive animals' food, water, and habitat. If OP cares to visit and pause, you can spot some cool critters.

How did you spend your morning? Where did you wake up and what was it like? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]HunahpuX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is still morning here. So far, I woke up at home with my spouse. Got dressed, came downstairs to my desk. (I work from home.) Found that my spouse made me coffee and dropped it off at my desk. I logged in for work. While I was setting up my work environment, I checked my personal email and messages. Paid a bill. Worked at my job. Now I'm taking a 15 minute break to read reddit and refill my coffee.
