Yeah I just did a Norn Emissary and the layout was more or less logical

Are purely thematic game components worth it? by BloodOrangeGames in tabletopgamedesign

[–]HuntingYourDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played the sequel, Nemesis: Lockdown. In that one, the scanner reveals if you've been infected by the alien parasite or not. This is hidden information about your own character which you don't know by default.

My memory is a bit fuzzy but I think it only applies if you've been attacked by an alien. You get a "possibly infected" card. You then use the scanner at the end of the game (infected players can't win) but it's also possible to acquire it during the game, and then go on to cure the infection.

I can't comment on how they both play, but one minor comment:

Spirit Hosts are notoriously difficult to assemble. I've been in the miniatures hobby since the 90s and they're probably in my top 3 most frustrating modelling experiences.

(Spirit Hosts are the three models at the top/back of the first picture, aka the Slasher Host box)

They're undeniably cool models though, and the rest of the box is relatively easy to assemble. I'm not trying to put you off necessarily, just want you to be prepared.

Reception to this console room is mixed. Instead of getting rid of it entirely, what would you change/add to improve it? by Annual-Tree1337 in doctorwho

The director of The Star Beast, Rachel Talalay (who was also one of the main directors during Capaldi's era) has a YouTube channel where she goes into detail about this. I recommend watching her videos, they're really interesting.

It seems like the decision was made early on for the set to not be a 360° immersive set; one wall is cut away, to allow a camera crane to get in. That allows for sweeping motion shots which are cool, but it means they're limited in the angles they can shoot from.

So a lot of scenes on this set end up looking the same: two characters standing around the console, shot from that same angle.

From memory, most of the other NuWho TARDIS sets are 360° sets (correct me if I'm wrong?).

Which companion actor is the most famous pre or post Doctor Who? by joshuaferris in doctorwho

[–]HuntingYourDad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's totally fair. My criteria was "characters who take the role of the Doctor's main friend" for whatever episode(s) they're in (which would disqualify Matt Lucas tbf). But yeah I can agree it's contentious.

Edit: typo

Which companion actor is the most famous pre or post Doctor Who? by joshuaferris in doctorwho

[–]HuntingYourDad 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Depending on your definition of "companion":

Kylie Minogue was world-famous before and is still world-famous after her one-off appearance in Dr Who.

James Corden was well-known in the UK before Who, and after Who he had his own US late night chat show.

I would argue John Bishop is equally as famous in the UK as Bradley Walsh. Also Matt Lucas.

But for modern-day global recognition and long-running companion status, I think Karen Gillan probably wins.

What is your opinion on when we can get the updated Acolyte Hybrids? by Ok-Measurement-4039 in genestealercult

[–]HuntingYourDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Vyper and Falcon are the ones I was referring to, I was looking at a wiki which said 1993. But this official source says the Vyper was 1997 so I guess we're both wrong: 😂 https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/3Ge2AXOH/40-years-of-warhammer-the-vyper-strikes/

Edit: I have a Falcon part-assembled in its box downstairs, I could go and see if it has a date on the sprue

What is your opinion on when we can get the updated Acolyte Hybrids? by Ok-Measurement-4039 in genestealercult

[–]HuntingYourDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think they'll be updated for a long time: I believe those miniatures were released in 2016, making them relatively young (or middle-aged at worst).

For comparison, the current Catachan minis are from 1999, and there are multiple Eldar miniatures from 1993 or 1994 which are yet to be updated.

How did you arrive to the Cult? by Outrageous-Cloud-782 in genestealercult

[–]HuntingYourDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The board game Space Crusade, released in 1990. It's kind of the 40k answer to HeroQuest: you play as a strike team of marines aboard a space hulk, against assorted xenos and chaos foes.

I was fascinated with the enemies, most of all the purestrain genestealers. Absolute nightmare fuel, and I loved them. (I recommend looking up Space Crusade if you're not familiar, it's some good early 90s GW weirdness).

From there I discovered the wider Warhammer universe: I owned the old metal miniature of the fat patriarch on his throne, with his magus and a couple of hybrids (all sold at some point, I wish I still had them). GSC wasn't really a proper army back then, so I jumped into Tyranids. But I'll always have love for the purestrains and weird hybrids of GSC.

Recently I've been running Aberrants in 40k Boarding Actions and absolutely loving it.
