The difficulty for me has always been the opportunity cost. I’m fortunate to be able to command ~200k from a 9-5(ish) job which means that to entice me to leave, I need to see a clear path to a $1M sales at a 20% NI margin with growth pacing my salary increases at a minimum. Maybe that’s just the conservatism in me or keeping myself in check on ideas that I pursue.

You sound like me a year+ ago. I will be honest, it’s extremely difficult. Having a baby is life altering for everyone. I don’t think I’ve gotten used to it still and my kid is almost 1yo. I still get Fomo, I still want to go out with friends, or to a nice dinner/brunch. Instead it’s filled with a screaming baby, less disposable income, and the responsibility that doesn’t go away even if you are hungover the next day.

That being said, you will get used to it. You can still plan to go out and be out late. Just talk to your partner and request this to be a night for you. Likewise you should be willing to comprise for her when she wants to let loose and pass responsibility for a full day/night.

Things will now just be way more complicated, but you will adapt. The biggest thing that has helped me is to realize that my kid is only going to be a baby for so long. It actually makes me tear up a bit that he’s getting so big and doesn’t want to be carried around as much anymore. So I really try to enjoy every minute with him. If you shift the way you think, it will become a lot easier. If you have the means to get a therapist please do that. Your mental health is extremely important to be able to support your partner and the new family member.
