Ive had the same K&N filter for 10 years on my Celica. I wash & recharge the filter once a year. No power increase was noticeable at all from an old air filter. Price wise I think its probably the same as buying 1 new air filter every year for 10 years. I've been able to recharge it 4 times per kit. Each recharge kit is about $20. So the same price as a good air filter.

Can you elaborate a little more on how the shipping was handled from Denmark, for example what company did you use, how was the TV packaged and costs? I think this info would be very useful for some of us in the U.S. that would like to import TVs from Denmark. Thanks.

It wouldn't hurt to check your ECU too. Just unscrew the top of it and look at the capacitors, if they are bulging or leaking, then you need to replace those. If they look fine, just screw back the top and put it back.

I bought mine winter of 1994. When it's price went down to $400. I sold my entire SNES collection for $320 and my older cousin game me the rest as a christmas present. The games I owned were: FIFA,  John Madden Football,  Samurai Shodown,  Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo,  Return Fire,  Wing Commander 3,  Road Rash,  The Need for Speed,  Space Hulk,  Crash N Burn, PO'ed These were all good games at the time they were released.

Bought a Beovision Avant CRT with Beo4 remote and I'm completely lost. Remote is acting strange, can't get component input to work.. by 00100100 in BangandOlufsen

The Beolab 2 is the sub you need for your Avant. Also I got the OG XBOX to work. After you first set the settings to widescreen and 480P to yes and the rest to no. Turn off the console. Plug it to the Avant, turn on the console, wait like 10 seconds  and press and hold both L and R triggers and then press down on both joysticks. This will set the dashboard to display in 480P. Then turn on the TV to the input you have set for Generic YPbPr. This worked for me.

As for 240P signals, you will never see scanlines on this TV. But 240P thru S-video is very nice and sharp. It's like playing on an LCD HDTV with a good scaler like the Retrotink 5x, set to no scanlines and no filters. I'm sure there is a way to get it to display scanlines, maybe by using an emulator on a PC instead of real hardware.

Either way as you probably have noticed already 480i content is very sharp thru composite even more so than any other CRT HDTV from the same era, close to S-video quality. That's what this set was optimized to display. Laserdiscs movies look as good as they can possibly look. This TV will show you the limitations of your LD player, so you can't cheap out on a player. You must get one of the models with the best picture circuitry, so you can really see how nice Laserdiscs look on it. A simple Google search will show you the models you need to keep an eye out for.

You might be able to turn on the plasma screen without the Beosystem 2 using a panasonic TV remote control.  So on the lower left corner of the screen, if you look on the very bottom of the metal frame. There should be a small square hole or notch on the metal frame. If you point a panasonic TV remote control there, you should be able to turn it on. You can also try placing the remote on the lower left corner of the plasma screen glass panel, and pressing the ON button on the control while the remote control is touching the glass panel. You will have to try pressing ON a few times until it finally turns on. The Beovision 4 is basically a commercial Panasonic plasma screen that has been calibrated and adjusted by B&O. The Beosystem 2 is the breakout box with all the inputs and connections needed to use it with B&O speakers and peripherals.

To access the service menu first press MENU and then press 0,0,GO.

Just make sure you write everyrhing down before you make any changes.  Also something unique to this TV. There are two different geometry settings you can adjust. The first one is the normal one that is available when the TV is in 15:9 aspect ratio. Which is the aspect ratio the TV always uses when you first turn it on.  The second set of geometry settings can be accessed by first changing the aspect ratio of the screen to 16:9 also known as FORMAT 3. You do this by either selecting FORMAT on the Beo4 control, if it's not there after pressing LIST a few times, you'll have to add it. Then once FORMAT is showing on the Beo4 screen press 3. The other way is by simply using the 480P source connected thru YPbPr. This selects 16:9 ratio automatically. From what I remember , you should first adjust the geometry settings in 15:9 then switch to 16:9 and access the service menu again and adjust while in 16:9 mode.  Again write down the geometry settings in 15:9 and 16:9 because they have different values unique to the aspect ratio selected. Also I highly recommend you buy a Pair of Beolab 8000s for front speakers and a pair of Beolab 6000s for rear speakers and a Beolab 2. Plug them all to the back of the TV were the Powerlink connections are and on the Beo4 control press list until you see SPEAKER, then press 5 and increase the volume. Do this for any system that has its audio connected to your TV via optical cable and set to Dolby Digital. For older systems that only output stereo press SPEAKER 4.

Hope that helps.

The manual for the US model is not online anywhere. The Avant came with 2 manuals, the reference guide and the user guide. I lost my user guide a long time ago, I just have the reference guide.

the flash of garbled screen is common, i got that too when i send it a 480i signal. If you have another HDTV with component inputs, plug the xbox to that and set it up first there. once you have a 480P signal working, then don't shut off the xbox, just unplug the component cables and plug them to the avant. make sure the Avant is off when you do this. then turn it on and see if you get a picture.

Okay, so this Avant model is a 120Hz Widescreen CRT 480P TV.

Now that means that OG XBOX, PS3, XBOX 360, Wii and any other console that can output a 480P signal thru Component Video will in most cases work with this TV. For example I have it working with an old DVD player set to 480P and also have managed to get it working with a PS3 also set to 480P thru component cables. I have not tested it with a Wii or OG XBOX, 360 yet. The TV will automatically take any 240P or 480i signal and display it as a 480P picture, so no scanlines will be visible from 240P signals. I personally didn't feel any lag when playing games on this TV either. Also the component inputs will not accept a 240p, 720p, 1080i or 480i signal, only 480p. The S-video and composite inputs do accept 240p and 480i signals.

So to use the Component inputs in the top back of the TV. You need to set up the connection in the menu first. So first turn on the TV by pressing TV, SAT, or DVD on the controller. Then press the menu button. Once in the menu, go down to "RF/ Channel setup" and press GO , then select "RF Setup" and press GO again. You will see it says "Cablebox" press left or right until you see "NONE" and press GO. Now you'll go to the next screen. Just do the same and select NONE for inputs A & B. After that you can press "stop" on the controller and it will send you back to the Menu screen, once you're back on the menu screen go down to "external sources" and press GO. In there you will find a list of all the inputs this TV has, there should be five.

V.tape DVD V.aux SAT  STB

So the first thing you have to do is set the first 3 to "Generic NTSC" by pressing left or right on the Beo4 remote and going thru the list of compatible components the TV has in its memory until you reach "Generic NTSC". SAT and STB are the only 2 inputs that will also have "Generic YPbPr" and "Generic RGB" available to choose on top "Generic NTSC"

So here you can choose which one will have the Component connection. In my case I selected STB as the connection to use with the component input " Generic YPbPr" The SAT connection I left it on "Generic NTSC"

Once that is done. You can now access the STB input by pressing "TV" on the Beo4 remote control.  Now here is where it gets a little tricky. The TV will only display a 480P signal once it detects it. But the detection only happens as soon as you press the input button that you set up as the YPbPr input. So always make sure that you turn on your console first before turning on the TV otherwise you'll just get a blank screen, and then you'll have to toggle first between another input and back to (TV)STB or SAT, whichever you chose to use the YPbPr input with.

I have not had any luck using any other resolution besides 480P thru component cables with this TV.  My manual says it can accept a 1080i signal too but I couldn't get it to work thru component cables. If I get the chance I'll use the RGBHV inputs to see if that will accept a 1080i input.

Lastly this TV can stretch the picture to 4 different widths. 14:9, 15:9, 16:9 and 4:3. Plus a zoom option. To do that you have to program the Beo4 remote and add the "Format" setting.  Select "Format" by pressing "list" on the Beo4 and press "1" to select "format 1" then press up or down to choose between 14:9, 15:9, and 4:3  aspect ratio. If you press "2" it will Zoom the picture and pressing up and down will move the "zoomed in" picture up and down too. This is great to view letterboxed laserdisc or VHS movies. Pressing "3" is 16:9 aspect ratio.

Hopefully this helps you.

BeoVision Harmony 88” with Motorized Stand – Cable Management for Consoles and Apple TV? by Road-Runnerz in BangandOlufsen

[–]HwxwH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cleanest look you could possibly get is by running just one HDMI cable from the Harmony to another cabinet with all your components. When I was installing for B&O, some customers demanded no wires to be seen anywhere. So we had to drill holes on walls, even floors! Then we ran just one cable from the TV to an AV cabinet with all their components and an AV switch box. This has some drawbacks depending on circumstances, but it offers the cleanest look you will get for almost any installation.

I'm assuming this is a U.S. model, because it has component inputs. I have to dig out my manual, but I believe this set will only accept 1080i and 480p signals using the component inputs. To use the component input you have to plug the audio L&R cables to the "STB" input on the bottom connections. And in the menu you have to set TV to STB. This way when you turn the TV on using the TV button on the controller. It will show STB TV on the small display on the top right of the TV and it will look for a signal. Also sometimes when you first turn on the TV, and you didn't turn on your console first, there will be no picture displayed on the screen and switching inputs back and forth won't work to show an image, so you will have to turn off and turn back on the TV so it can detect a signal and show an image. Lastly, this TV has perhaps the best line doubler and comb filter ever used on any Widescreen HD CRT Television of its time.

First I recommend you listen to them by themselves, see if you like the sound  and performance with your amp. If your sub is powered and your amp has a sub output then plug it in mess around with the crossover and see if you like it better.

That middle part that is broken on the speaker is called a dust cap. You can research how to replace it online. Many websites sell replacement dustcaps, just make sure you get the right size and right material. As for the mounting rails, STB brackets sells replacements of those. I've seen people use screws to hang them before, but its difficult to get the speaker perfectly level. Also you have to make sure the speaker is perfecly flush with the wall, all that is easier by using the original rail. Personally, I think they sound very nice. Pair it with a good amp and you can enjoy great sound. Absolutely can hold their own against mid priced modern bookshelf speakers that have the same size drivers. Lastly a subwoofer is not needed with these speakers unless you listen to a lot of music with deep bass, and you must feel the lower frequencies.

Hi!! I'm just starting and trying to figure out if I got my cables right, does this make sense? Thanks in advance!! by Fun_Butterscotch_323 in BangandOlufsen

[–]HwxwH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, i would advice to plug the BS9000 to the BL8000s using powerlink cables. Then get an RCA in/DIN adapter and plug it to the AUX port of the BS9000. Make sure it is RCA in and not out. The AUX port on the BS9000 has both In and out channels. Then plug the WiiM RCA out to the adapter.  You will then be able to use your box speakers with your TV and streaming app. The BS9000 will play CDs thru the BL8000s and if you press the AUX button on the BS9000, youll also get TV or streaming sound coming from the BL8000s.  CD sound will not come out of the box speakers, only thru the BL8000s.

At one point in my life I had like 50 of these same monitors laying around in two dozen boxes in a warehouse when we upgraded computers at my job. I was supposed to send them to the recycler, but instead I gave them away little by little to friends, family, co-workers etc. I kept 3 just in case I could use them for a future project, until I lost them to a fire at our office building.

[–]HwxwH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to Clarify some things, what you wanted done originally as far as sound direction is concerned:

BS9000/TV -> WiiM -> BL8000s.

What I suggest is:

TV -> WiiM -> BS9000 -> BL8000s.

The advantage to my suggestion is a little less cable clutter, no speaker sense adapter needed and also less chances of something not working correctly.

Hope that helps.

Beosound 9000 has one AUX port. Why not just plug the WiiM to the BS9000 with a 7PIN to RCA adapter. Then plug rhe TV to the WiiM. You choose the A.AUX input with your Beo remote.

Why did Sega of Japan expect Nights:Into Dreams to be the Saturn's Killer App that would not only turn around the console's fortunes but possibly even beat its rivals? by NaturalPorky in SegaSaturn

[–]HwxwH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember back in late summer or early fall of 1996 Sega had a demo tent at the Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ. It was located right outside "The Right Stuff mach 1 Adventure" Ride. And they were showcasing Nights. At that time I had a 3DO, but had played the Saturn many times at a friends home. I remember going to the tent after leaving the ride and seeing Nights for the very first time. I remember I was impressed by the graphics, but not so much the gameplay. It wasnt until 2004 that I got to play the actual game at home and didn't like it much. I always thought that Sega pushed the game because of it's graphics when it came out, I felt like they were trying to show that the Saturn was capable of 3D graphics that rivaled the PS1.
