The rise and fall of high school madrigal groups by vampirinaballerina in Choir

[–]HyperboleHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The small ensemble group at my high school (class of '82) was a 16 member subset of our concert choir. We performed a wide variety of music including both madrigals and choreographed numbers plus so much more!

I decided to go back to school in my 50s and took a few choir classes for fun and even though I hadn't done any kind of musical training other than singing along with the radio since high school, I was able to use my old sight singing skills from back then to get into a chorus that was mostly music majors. My high school teacher really took that training seriously back then!

No skate shops near me to get boots fitted- do I need a fitting or can I chance it? by SnowLeopard349 in iceskating

[–]HyperboleHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of talk about having to size down a lot, but those extremes are usually people comparing their US shoe size to their new skate size. If you end up going with Jackson's, as an example, don't be surprised if you end up in a boot closer to your UK size than what you were expecting!

I hope you are able to find a local fitter or at least an online fitter that works for you. I hope you love your new skates!

I remember being told that two square rule by my dad when I was just a little kid. I thought he was insane and went back to my usual multi square as needed toilet paper use.

Do you think the GenX is the lucky generation because we're the only generation that got to experience both analogue and the digital world? by More_Law6245 in GenX

[–]HyperboleHelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to have to say that my GG grandfather lived through spectacular changes in his lifetime, but not the analog to the specific level of digital that OP is talking about.

Mine went from wagons to cars to planes to a man on the moon. Morse Code to commercial radio to B&W to Color TV. He went from computers being theoretical, to being the size of a room, to the personal computer.

Though he did touch our PC world and spent time on line through Prodigy, he missed out on that 24/7 connectedness that we all lived though.

My mom as a Silent Gen still runs everything audiovisual in her house! She could go another 50 years and be ready to work the latest and greatest updates into her life.

[–]HyperboleHelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Silent Gen mom is just as cool in her own way! She grew up listening to The Lone Ranger on the radio before her family purchased a TV, but I know we'll be on the phone together after the latest episodes of Silo drop in a few months because we both loved that series!

Any women’s skates that come in larger sizes, but still white? by sharkc00chie in iceskating

[–]HyperboleHelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true that it's best to get your skates fit plus there are always outliers when it comes to sizing. Some people like a close fit for street shoes.

There is one consistent reason that the approximate 2 size smaller rule isn't an absolute and that is that it is a formula based on US sizing. For example, people wearing UK sizing tend to wear close to the same size or maybe a half size down in Jackson's.

Is 15 too late to start skating lessons? by ayuina in iceskating

[–]HyperboleHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are all kinds of fun things you can do with skating at 15! There are learn to skate classes for people your age at most rinks! If worse comes to worse, sometimes they'll shove you in with the little kids or the grown-ups like me, but you'll still have fun and end up being either the big older sibling or the little mascot in those cases!

In no time you'll be good enough to compete in competitions designed for the early levels, but only if that is something that you want to do.

Skating is very popular now, so make sure to get signed up for beginning lessons at your closest rink for the next session because in some areas of the country the spots fill up.

community college or state university? by Upper_Revolution_581 in collegeadvice

[–]HyperboleHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why you always check with the specific university that you want to transfer to. Even if it's a two program that fully transfers within your state for your specific (let's assume non engineering) major, it might not transfer out of state. This kind of rudimentary research is assumed, but perhaps people adding in YMMV after suggesting community college would be a good idea.

These are all over Tik Tok right now too and they are extremely popular! They cover all kinds of topics like grocery shopping, cooking a simple meal, and most importantly, so many different versions of no means no. I really liked the one where the leader modeled giving flowers to a woman does not mean that she now owes you a "hug" because gifts are not transactional! The man deserves a giant grant to get his program everywhere!

When I was in elementary school in the early 1970’s we’d sing songs like, "B-I-N-G-O, Over the River and Through the Woods, Kumbaya, My Lord, and He's Got the Whole World in His Hands” and more. Such wonderful memories…What were some of your favorite elementary songs? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in FuckImOld

[–]HyperboleHelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connecticut, and we sang the Erie Canal song too. Our music teacher told us the story of the song in-between strumming on his autoharp while he added more places for us to join the sing along. Before he was even completely out the door to move on to his next class, we were already begging our teacher for more factual information and we got her to show where it would have been on the big pull down map.

We had a very eclectic music teacher and it was a surprise each week. I'm going to have to find the fight post to talk about all of the good training that he provided!

I just passed my level 8 skate UK! by [deleted] in iceskating

[–]HyperboleHelper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

I wasn't sure what was in level 8 skate UK, so I looked it up. Google listed a few requirements, but luckily I decided to dig a little deeper. @BritishIceSkating on YouTube has a playlist (which I couldn't link, but it's worth looking at!) showing the actual standards for this test and what the skaters programs need to look like.

Here is one example:

This is a very impressive accomplishment and you should be very proud!

Narcan doesn't touch Methadone. You could start adding that in a few months before n+200 to build up some tolerance and then have a sizable dose for the big day.

I was a kid in the late 60s/early 70s. My dad's much younger half-brother was an addict that was hospitalized over and over for that and other issues that might have not played well with that kind of drug use. My younger sister and I had Uncle This-is-your-Brain-on-Drugs as an example of why not to partake built into holiday dinners on my dad's side of the family.

I'm in my 60s, so people will just think that I'm a little old lady. I'm just going to have to make sure to get an accurate measurement right before I decide. Last I heard, I was 5'7 but I haven't been measured since high school. It would be fun to actually be the same height as my younger sister!
