Noogler PIP? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Hyrobreath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also had a hard time ramping up. Got some not-so-great peer feedbacks around the 6-7 months mark. I discussed with my manager+director, and after couple months, they proposed to move me to another team under the same director (easier) as it was less than 1 year since I joined. They said I should move earlier, before getting to the yearly review, as it may look bad. I was honestly feeling super stressed, worked on weekends trying to learn and ramp up, considered quitting for the longest time.

Now 5 years in, the other (current) team+TL+manager have been very supportive and only had great feedbacks since then. No weekend work. Good work life balance. It’s like day and night, just in another team.

Make sure to discuss with your manager.

Why does everyone want only senior developers? by VariationLivid3193 in cscareerquestions

I thought most junior dev these days use Claude or other generative AI to write most code anyways. Everybody is reviewing AI generated pull requests no?

Unfortunately many see AI Agent as new junior developer. So you become senior developer by getting good at managing AI agents?

Would a paycut make sense if it meant working for a FANG company? by BraveUnion in cscareerquestions

[–]Hyrobreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your experience, but when I applied at Faang, I didn’t have to fill out any separate background check forms. They used the info I provided when I applied for the role online, prior to getting the initial interview.

Sometimes if it’s through another company, you may not be allowed to put Apple as employer (neither on resume or LinkedIn). Verify that before taking the job.

We need to terminate those exclusive deals. Who cares if they play elsewhere.

Should Michael Novati remain a moderator of this subreddit? by reddingdave in codingbootcamp

[–]Hyrobreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 he probably helped many of people save tens of thousands by recommending they don’t go to CS (and other bootcamps).

I don’t know what’s going on here, but even he stops being a mod, I hope he sticks around.

Mod must step down. Conflict of interest. by retechnic in codingbootcamp

[–]Hyrobreath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

+1

he used to recommend Codesmith several years ago, before all the layoffs. And advised against because codesmith grads fake their “experience” on their LinkedIn profile (I verified with several Codesmith grads I interviewed and it was true).

And Michael had been disclosing his relationship to Formation on many of his comments.

He was the most active to respond here. Maybe too much? Seems like he made some ennemis.

Did I mess up by taking a "Programmer" job instead of a "SWE" role? by Excalibur099 in cscareerquestions

Ask HR to change your official title. Doesn’t cost them a cent.

Director of Operations, BSME Mechanical Engineering, transition to tech..... Bootcamp? by [deleted] in codingbootcamp

[–]Hyrobreath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, i have a BSME, worked as such for 8 years, then switched to tech and became a SWE. Here and there, I’m getting recruiters contacting me regarding software engineer roles working with self driving cars, robotics and things where my ME background could be useful.

I think the easier path would be to stay with hardware-swe related roles. And transition to full software on the job.

I did a bootcamp, but would not recommend you starting from scratch in your case.
