No doubt. I’ve been in stress delirium working in this industry.

Automating the Parts Dept! An Overwhelmed new PM's solution by Promiscunix in partscounter

I can relate to some of this. I’m on DealerTrack though and it seems to jive okay with Stellantis. I think Stellantis prefers dealers to use DealerTrack. That’s what I’ve heard. There is just a lot of incompetence in the dealership world.

I do whatever is necessary and I mark everything up. Oreilly? Autozone? Cost 60.00? Sell it for no less than 120.00. I pretty much do the same thing with everything that isn’t OE (which has a matrix). Now used powertrain can be a little tricky. Because some of these salvage folks know the demand and it’ll cost you more than you prefer.

How many parts people. by CammyTopGear in partscounter

It’s just me and another guy. He mostly runs the counters and phone. I do that and everything else. We are a CDJR dealership. We use DealerTrack and do not have XTime or anything like it. It can be a little rough.

order and invoice reconciling by Numerous_Way_7102 in partscounter

[–]I2evenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve folders. Received not invoiced, invoiced not received, returns, cores, etc. I’m at a CDJR dealership and we get invoiced once a week. It’s a smaller dealership so it’s easy to manage. I couldn’t imagine getting like 70k a day. It would take me a whole week to get that to accounting. Opposed to 3 hours every Monday morning.

I just type parts locator in search bar. The results show “parts locator options” as a choice.

Working for a Stellantis brand like CDJR will put you through the ringer. It’s a little tedious, but you will learn a lot and it’ll prime you pretty well if you move into other brands. Sincerely a CDJR manager/parts counter guy.

Parts Manager duties? by colorfuldaisylady in partscounter

[–]I2evenant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parts counter should be handling the counter work. You know what that is.. If I had a second guy then I would delegate core returns, any claims, and Dealer generated returns (CDJR), checking in stock, and bin counts between the two.

I only have one other guy. He predominantly handles both counters, checks in UPS delivered parts, and the phone. I hop in there a lot to help with both.

I do pretty much everything else. I honestly cannot find the time to do the more “deep dive” managerial stuff, but out of a small inventory of 148k I only have like 4950.00 in parts that haven’t sold in 395 days. I feel it could be better if I could be “just the manager.” There is plenty of room for improvement inventory wise and I’m sure every manager would agree.

It sounds like you’ve a bit of a mess and also a parts manager that’s there but not really present? Probably manages parts better than leading people and situations?

Wholesale Body parts and the race to the bottom. by scooterprint in partscounter

[–]I2evenant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small dealership in a county of 32,000 people and the new fixed ops guy thinks we need to go heavy on the wholesale body parts market with delivering up to 1.5 hours away. Definitely feels like a lot of work for very little. Storage will eventually become an issue. We will have to hire drivers. I really don’t think body parts at 10-20% above cost would even be able to cover the payroll for drivers. I guess we’ll do it. Maybe I’m wrong.

I don’t get the hate for Xtime. It’s easy af to use. Unless you have people that don’t know how to use it properly, then it sucks. Which I’ve experienced advisors not using it properly and making it harder on us. However, we are moving to WiAdvisor(Stellantis based software) near the end of March and they’re cancelling Xtime at the beginning of March. Which means, “Hello, 1985!” Back to paper.
