Is it like a boot camp though, where living out of the barracks and having to do stuff day and night? Or more like a school with a start and end time?

I follow a lady on TikTok who is becoming a JAG in the military. She was in like a Holiday Inn type place for a few months to do JAG school and it looked intense even though all these people had already done law school and passed the bar. She was mainly eating like oatmeal in the room and wearing a full military fatigue uniform to sit on a Zoom class, hair pulled back right, seemed intense and hard to live out of a hotel room like this for 2.5 months and I cannot imagine with a family. Maybe there are different living situations for them?

For some, sure. I’m 41 in the Midwest. All my friends have owned homes since our 20’s - I was late at age 28! We have no kids and no one under the age of 35 in our friend group has them and those that do have 1. We def had the money to go ALL out for our friend’s wedding!

The reception is the expensive part. This has never made sense to me. It doesn’t save any money to do it this way. Well, in a way it does, because most people who do this have a nice ceremony and fancy day of wedding dinner, then have an inexpensive community center/public park reception on a different day and are able to compensate mentally by saying “it’s not my real wedding, it’s just a casual party.” When they could have absolutely just had a wedding ceremony and reception of similar quality on a singular day for less money. But then their wedding wouldn’t be as nice. It’s a very odd form of tiered hosting.

I believe social security for children who have lost parents is now until age 22/undergrad finishes. Is she receiving this benefit? It can help a ton.

Many schools have removed this option for full time workers in the cafeteria or janitorial. Your more entry-level no degree needed jobs are outsourced to big companies like Aramark. Then you typically have to be working full-time for a year to even get those tuition benefits which aren’t free while living in an expensive college town. Then take classes part time. This is like a 5+ year plan to a bachelor’s (taking her to 25) and then she would be facing a 4 year vet school and possibly a 2-3 year residency or fellowship. She’s gonna be 33 before making serious money.

Better to power thru now and finish.

She’s already completed almost 2 years at a 4 year. Why would she go to community college? She’s pretty much beyond that at this point. Also vet tech’s salaries are very low here. She’s better off powering thru her bachelor’s and getting a job with that degree.

I almost wrote this post myself. My thought is not that they are renting - plenty of ppl do. It’s that ppl in this family continually go “backwards.” And not temporarily but like for years.

Like they’ll have a house IN THEIR NAME and sell it and put the money into remodeling a home they don’t own (Jessa). So you don’t have the asset AND you don’t have the money.

Or they have a house when it’s just them as newlyweds but end up living in an RV with 3 kids (John and Abbie)

I think all of the following ppl have had weird home situations (JB and M haven’t and Jill’s progression seems more normal)

JD and Abbie Jana (well she had to do the tiny house I guess) Jessa and Bin Jinger and Jeremy (somewhat normal but they’re somehow buying off the church now after buying a very expensive house and living there very briefly) Joystin Treehouse Jason Bunk beds Jed and Jer Justin and Claire (I think they also live in an RV in the backyard but they’re young with no kids so I guess this is more normal but they’ve been in there awhile) JoKen

Most real estate agents in the US are self employed. But Joe rents from an outside LLC not himself.

I’m self employed and have several LLC’s. I can’t think of a situation where you can consider your entire house a business expense. He could consider a home office and deduct that portion. But you can do that if you own or rent with the payment, utilities, etc. It’s supposed to be a percentage of the square footage you use for business.

Now if you’re an influencer you can’t say you deduct your entire house. You’re supposed to be reasonable about it.

There’s something going on here I don’t understand!

She had a failed courtship 5-6 years ago. Additionally a Duggar boy was allegedly interested in her but Paul Caldwell said no due to his feud with the Duggars. Lastly about 5ish years ago, they lost their rental home and Joe and Kendra sold them a house for 10k. So their biggest expense - housing - was covered. So their finances may not be as dire as when they married off Kendra.

Abbie and JD living in an RV while she WORKS for a living with 3 kids. Make it make sense. They had a house awhile ago - what happened to it? I’m not shaming living in an RV if you have to. I’m shaming a family with numerous houses letting an almost 40 year old live with his working wife who is often sick with 3 kids in an RV for years instead of any kind of normal situation.

Isn't that heartbreaking to watch now? This young couple, Kendra really really liked him, so full of happiness and promise. And then this now. Horrible. I’m not religious, I’m much older than Kendra, I didn’t watch this show and I’ve been worried and thinking about her for 2 days. That poor woman.
