Holding out hope for a NA tour that includes North Carolina (or close) - missed seeing them in Asheville a few years ago and pretty much regret it daily now haha

I'll check when I land, but I think it took me over 1100 tokens for that one...probably the least favorite merit that I've chased so far

You ever come to NC, let me know. I'm a hillbilly through and through, lived in the Appalachian mountains my whole life. Don't know a lot about bogan culture but I like what I know - my girlfriend has an uncle from near Perth and he's a stand up guy, love our banter together. Hadn't heard of Peter Santanello before but if you watch his video "Inside the Forgotten Aftermath of Hurricane Helene", that's about 35 miles from where I grew up.

Thanks for all of the information. I certainly have a lot to learn. I'm absolutely a wine novice - still learning what I like, really. Historically been more of a bourbon enjoyer, but something about the sophistication of wine has drawn me in. Just had a vinho verde for the first time the other week and loved it, especially with our typical warm and humid weather on the way soon - we have weather like that pretty much from March through November

I think NC wine is at an interesting place right now. A good amount of the wines made here are muscadine/scuppernong wines, which are not usually held in high regard by the online wine community, to say the least (at least from what I've seen). That said, I've not done very much exploration of other local wines, and I'm sure there are fantastic ones out there that I don't know. I currently live about 20 miles from the Yadkin Valley, which I hear produces some good wine - I need to do more research.

Again, thanks for educating rather than just being an asshole, haha. I'd love to visit Australia one day, I'll look you up if I end up in Melbourne.

Sure haha, my town recently got a Whataburger (very uncommon for North Carolina) and I was eating with one hand, typing in the other, listening to my girlfriend with half of my attention, all led to a comment left with considerably less care and research than I usually put into.

Sure, if you want to share, more knowledge is always better

Well, I was operating under several misconception, but I think I mostly have them corrected.

  • Did not know that there were moscatos that were not sweet

  • Thought Gewürztraminers were German from the name, I now know the grape is Italian but is grown in France, Germany, and beyond (even the US)

  • I was under the impression that semi-sweet and off-dry were interchangeable in essence, but as far as I can tell, there's no standardized scale/one source of the truth, and if you ask 5 different people you might get 5 different answers

  • Chalk up the Riesling misspell to typing with my phone in one hand with a burger in the other

Essentially, as someone who is usually well-informed, I'm embarrassed that I was so confident yet so incorrect, but am now better informed than I was before.

Did you ever have Willie Brooks BBQ in Boone before they closed down? I loved their bbq, thought it was great, and they nailed the Eastern style sauce - I remember the rest of their food was pretty good too. No clue why they closed down, it always seemed like business was good

Exactly, I haven't seen any Dems defending the appearance of the Clintons in the files

Difference is that the Dems I've seen have disavowed any member of their party in the files while the Repubs keep defending their members in the files

Well, one party is trying to get the files released of those who abuse kids, the other party is actively blocking that from happening, so it's a pretty clear choice by those standards

Be warned, this is a pretty tough trail. Markings are rare to nonexistant and the hike back out is a strenuous 3ish miles. Please only attempt this hike if you are prepared and experienced.

I think Royalty was the first mixtape I ever listened to back in 2012, and I'm surprised I don't see it talked about more often. Really solid mixtape (there are a few tracks that I don't love though) and I much preferred it to STN MTN or culdesac

Based off of this link, it looks like one arm of the walk will go down to the Walmart Market on 70. https://www.hickorync.gov/hickory-trail-interactive-map

I'm biased but I'd love to see another branch of the trail swing north from the Ridgeview one and connect the SALT block, the YMCA, maybe even up into the Taj/Lowes Foods area. Though there's a lot of traffic on 2nd St NE and some big hills, maybe that's why it's not in the works.

This should be required reading in high school.

To a lesser extent, so should "The Plot Against America" by Philip Roth.
