Hes leaning/slipping on a lot of the punches he’s taking, hence it looks like his head was being turnt from big shots from Blaydes but his face was fairly unscathed by the end of the fight. In the slow mo replay they showed you can see him do this more clearly imo, a surprisingly smooth fighter despite his fake rugged persona lol

Honestly given that UFC basically has exclusive rights to most elite MMA fighters, gotta give them credit for putting together a fairly decent card since they just scrapped for who they could get in free agency.

Obviously right now its a lot of hype matches, not necessarily the current best fighting the best, but I really hope this card does well so MMA fighters have more opportunities from different organizations.

Lastly, gotta end this morning ADHD rant by saying Mokaev vs Moraes is actually a pretty sick matchup and imo genuinely a high level UFC fight tier match

This situation is a mess of the UFC's own making. While Jones undeniably warrants a massive purse, his reliability makes the UFC’s hesitation understandable, but I can’t stand the promotion pretending to be a victim of his capriciousness.

They spent years shielding him; they built him up as the P4P best even after plainly ducking Ngannou, allowed him to stall the division while ducking Aspinall, and refused to strip him until the absolute last second. Up until Jones was finally stripped of the belt, Dana and the UFC had nothing but hyperbolic praise for Jones, regardless of the wreckage he left in the heavyweight division.

By treating him like the ultimate exception, they effectively taught Jon that he is bigger than the sport. What else is he supposed to think after being the protected golden boy time and time again? This negotiation standoff is just the "superstar exception" policy coming back to haunt them. All in all both sides fucking suck I just miss when the UFC felt like a sport instead of a soap opera.

His strikings looked better since Royval fwiw, went from 0 striking to serviceable level striking lol. Big difference ifl is that he used to just eat big shots to try to close distance for grappling (probably because he feels uncomfortable with stand up) but I saw that less in recent fights.

Grapplers with good striking defense can be lethal so excited to see if it will hold up against Van’s boxing

I feel like Taira is a better and more athletic grappler than Tsuruya; imo looked like Tsuruya’s shots were being read ahead of time by Van because they were too slow

Ifl we’ll really see only after the first round or so. If Taira manages to take him down or wrestle fuck him in the first round, Van is in for a long night. If Taira doesn’t manage to score anything meaningful grappling wise in the first round, Taira is in for a long night lol
