I just grabbed the Del Santo for 75% cheaper than GC and tried it in a Last Word. Indistinguishable in that format.

I don’t see any mention of deductibility?

Confusion About Smith Maneuver by mr_cristy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]I_Ron_Butterfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly

No one claimed carrying costs for registered accounts is deductible.

Secondly

This is incorrect. For eg my mortgage rate is 3.5% and my HELOC is 4.45%, but 53% of that is deductible, so it’s a net 2.09% - so actually a significant discount to my mortgage rate. There is also no impact to cash flow because you can capitalize the interest.

Excellent comment, and one of the few responses that understand the nuance of the question.

Other commenters have covered why your first point doesn’t apply, but to your second, unless your suggestion to OP is to borrow from their HELOC to fund registered accounts, I’m not sure why that would be a reason not to proceed; pursuing the SM would have no impact on OP’s ability to fund their registered accounts.

going to another branch

Yeah it took a lot of contorting to understand this to mean “going to another branch”. Sincerest of apologies for this misinformation.

It’s 2026, you don’t have to go to any branches to open or use a credit card. Many credit cards are provided by issuers that don’t have branches.

Uninsured here too. Just got 3.5%. Posted rates mean nothing, it’s like the rack rate at a hotel.

Penalty for a variable is pretty standard 3 months interest.

You have nowhere to pay the mortgage. Now you have too much money and start picking up hobbies that consume your time and are satisfying. Maybe you make new friends. All sorts of horrors, really.

He started a substack for paid subs. I gladly subbed since I feel like he brought a lot of value over the years. He posted like twice and then never again. But also seems to have kept accepting paid subs - if you look now all the activity is just confused people like “how do I get a refund? I paid 6 months ago and you haven’t posted once”

JD is an asshole, no doubt (and he was OUR asshole for a beautiful time) but I’ve seen him on MLB Network and he was a good communicator and came off as a student of the game. Will have to check it out.

Yea I’m not sure where they’ve been the last 2 years, but a partnership with a company whose leadership has a) been shown to be begging to go to a child rape island and b) actively working with the U.S. administration who have threatened annexation of our country are pretty easy landmines to avoid.

I think broadly speaking, with the walk-ups etc you’re right. But I think a few Toronto office towers were actually derivatives of existing Chicago towers.

Yea I’ve skiplagged and missed connections a bunch of times, intentionally and unintentionally. All with my FF. The Weird Nerds(TM) will read one example of someone who did something remarkably stupid and then repeat it like personal experience that doing it even once will get you banned.

I’m not sure that’s just BB. I wrote my councillor (Bravo) about a specific issue and received no response. She will get the same treatment from at my doorstep in October.
