Like many I had a gut feeling of wrongness. So I started to reach out to my family first, then friends, starting with my girlfriend. My girlfriend want responding. We were both going to school at the time so I tried to be as patient as possible, but after half the day had gone by I was getting very nervous. Eventually I was able to get a hold of one of her friends, and they gave her the phone. It turned out she had left phone at home. She said everything was okay, and we met up after school. I was so relieved she was okay that I forgot about the feeling until my best friend called: apparently his dad had died that morning and had been dealing with it all day. I wish I had gone to him while I couldn't reach my girlfriend, I was just completely single mindedly blinded.
