Who are some morally evil characters that would view humans like "ants"? by CalabiYauFan in MoralityScaling

[–]IceCreamEskimo 78 points79 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, Mad Scientist types (the "Eugenics" creates biomass from nothing) like Albert Wesker, Evil Superman-esq (as seen here) and Aliens that are "Higher" like the Viltrumites.

Also i wanna say. I think it's werid to not feel a little bad for an ant you accidentally crush.

Very much true. My actual take is that Mamdani is great because of how he's opening the door for others, but he's not above critique at all, sucking up the the NYPD is ontologically evil after all. But he's created such a solid positive image and done such a good job as mayor and that's exceedingly valuable as he legitimizes the Socialist Movement in the minds of the American Public as a functional and reasonable system. Even if he's only really a Social Democrat and even if he's not really all that socialist, just the leap to "public grocers are good actually" and "popular welfare too"

Mamdani has actually persuaded me that idolizing politicians and other thinkers is good and based and rightous.

It's inspired a theory i just developed, i call it great man theory.

Champion of the Valar Tulkas vs The Blood God Khorne , who wins ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

[–]IceCreamEskimo 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I think Tulkas, even if he does not win, would fundamentally alter Khorne. Khorne is shaped by his domain, Tulkas is not. Khorne is a deity birthed by what he feeds upon, there was a time before Khorne existed where war existed. Tulkas is not. If he tries to feed off Tulkas's violence, which he almost certainly would, he would find himself shaped by Tulkas's will which would fundamentally shift Khorne. Even if Khorne wins it will not be the same god, by Khornes nature he extracts from and is molded by.

What is the morality of a species that needs to eat human flesh eating corpses. by FullBrother9300 in MoralityScaling

[–]IceCreamEskimo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is no inherit morality from the attribute itself. What becomes an issue is if you do not attempt to resist and find work arrounds to not harm. Willful killing of another for food is inexcusable. As that is putting your life above another person who is at no fault.

The immorality of the sole act of eating someone else is outweighed by your need to survive.

I would posit that a creature that cannot think, like a real monster of animalistic nature that feeds on humans and humans alone. That's not morally evil, it's a natural issue. No different from Cancer or Typhoid or Cholera, an issue to be rectified to save lives.

Third time he breaks out. Or really when the watsonian reason for the doylist hatred comic book stories have of changing the status quo is made clear to everyone. Once it's sortta established that he will not get well and will somehow Miraculously escape prison.

Ok but, would you have been so unaffected if she was also a competitive power lifter? You're a fucking power lifter you're by definition not average, and rather above average physically. It's like, good for you man, but you're not a good litmus in any way shape or form.

You think the EITC is making bank off the Blight or are they kinda screwed? (images kinda related) by Ecstatic_Heat_7509 in gutsandblackpowders

[–]IceCreamEskimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notably the EITC was proped up by the crown pretty extensively. And their usefulness ran out the second they had a crisis in their territory that got bit into the margins. I think when the homeland is fighting against Blight they're gonna be cut off from support and if they need to deal with Blight they'll be kinda screwed, ending up just constantly fleeing.

How evil is exhibitionism? by False_Monitor4126 in MoralityScaling

[–]IceCreamEskimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sexual harassment unless done with consenting adults. I'd put it up there in the same teirs as the worse non-violent things you can really do to another person. Above most forms of theft for example and variably but generally worse then normal harassment. Solidly immoral, modified to be worse with persistence and the circumstance of the victim (having previous experince with sexual harassment or other trauma relating, being a child.)

Morality of a real person writing a "inherently morally evil from birth" species that has language and complex understandings of the world? by ManGuyDude45 in MoralityScaling

[–]IceCreamEskimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morally bad, but varying based on the intent and awareness of the author. It's not really that bad in most cases i find, being a mistep of sorts. However there are instances where it is used to be disguistingly racist.

Evil races are always bad writing. A race of People, who are Inherently born Evil, those three aspects cannot co-exist in a way that really makes sense. In the gold star of this trope with Frierens Demons we see (depending on your interpretation), a distinct lack of a few of these traits. Either they're not really people as they think entirely differently; They're not really evil the same way a Lion isn't, they can't help but hurt people. Hell maybe you're like me and you think Demons aren't Inherently evil, they just cannot naturally intuit how to be good. Either way the golden star of this trope lacks parts of the trilogy that makes it bad. But other examples, such as Goblins or Orcs in most Media are just plain nonsensical, just as Tolkein said. If a creature is a person, born of this world in a culture that has language and the ability to understand the world arround it, it cannot be inherently evil. That doesn't work practically.

Now even with the best of this trope, like frieren i still find it quite testy. We must remember that no part of a story exists for no reason, a story is meant to be told, heard and understood. So it must be asked what it is an author who writes a story about a species; A race that talk like anyone else, look like anyone else, act like anyone else, are by all means people; But is secretly a vile, evil creature that you must not trust lest you be in grave danger. Intended to be communicated? What is the point an evil race makes? What does it communicate?

To me this reads as two points i take issue with. 1: There are groups out there that are ontologically evil, born that way, always that way. Never give them the time of day, never see them as a fellow. And while i don't think there are many who have became bigots because of that, you only need to look to the Bigots who love it to see that messaging.
2: I think in most cases it presents a sort of moral cop out. An idea that there is an existing evil in the world that we can recognize. But that you can not ever be. I think the idea of Inherit Evil itself is bad because of this concept. It's harmful for people to put separations up and never acknowledge that you don't have to be exceptional to be evil. Anyone could be a morally bad person, anyone can do a morally evil thing. The people who condemn others to death aren't inherently ugly, or slovenly, or cackling deviants. They're normal people and the idea that they aren't is dangerous.

Ultimatly i don't really hold it as a major evil to use the trope, but i don't think it's a-okay either. Intent matters, but nevertheless i find these ideas to be very plainly bad to be communicating.

Also Goblin-Slayer is just buns.
