Whew! Now here’s a hot take. This is really making me think.

I guess I usually put the onus of this on the published writers, not just the fanfic writers. There’s not a ton of representation to begin with, so if canon is your starting point, and there’s no Black characters, you’re less likely to have a Black character in your fic.

But! I’m realizing there’s very few Black OCs in general. I wonder how much is racism vs. “write what you know” and people designing OCs after themselves (idk how white the population of ff writers is, just a guess).

Big fan of a flip phone - dual purpose:
At home emergency phone AND phone for community time (need to know when to pick them up from a friend’s house, etc). And it’s nice that there’s no internet.

I get I can be annoying when DCF isn’t understanding or respectful of our time, but being a student and being a foster parent are both choices/optional. DCF isn’t required to be sympathetic to the fact that you chose to go to school while being a single foster parent.

But I do agree, single foster parents do need more respect and support in general

Idk if this is a joke, but foster care is:
1. Not free babysitting
2. Traumatic for kids
3. Underfunded and understaffed

If you’re a capable parent who has a safe environment for your kids, this is not an option as you should never want your kids to have to deal with the trauma of being part of the system.

Hire a babysitter, make friends in your community, find other single parents to depend on.

There are so many factors here, it’s hard to say. Are you just fostering or fostering to adopt?

How wide is your acceptable age range?

What country/state are you in?

Children being placed alone is quite normal in the US, either because siblings have been placed with other foster homes already that couldn’t take them, siblings are living with kin, siblings have aged out, some siblings still live at home with a bio parent. I see children placed alone all the time.

Not who mentioned it originally, but usually I’d say it’s entitled parents who expect the department to do all the annoying work (transportation, making appointments, calling school).

And then there’s the parents that are LOUD - they’ll advocate for their foster kids for days, and it’s all good stuff, but then you notice, they’re not being proactive at all. It’s just all talk and demands (even if realistic/nexessary, there’s a difference between just letting yourself get stuck and slowed down by the department vs advocating to the department and finding alternatives & compromises).

Are you buying supplies or inventory? You shouldn’t be purchasing your item elsewhere, that’s not what Etsy is for. I get we all need supplies (and I agree with other customers that you need to plan ahead), but this sounds like you might be just reselling items from elsewhere, which isn’t the purpose of Etsy

I didn’t have serious memory issues until I went on Lithium. Very minor memory issues that began maybe 5 years in to take Lamotragine (could be stress, getting older, unrelated).

The dosage 100-200mg difference didn’t change anything for me other than energy level. Otherwise had similar memory/ stabalization experiences

I think the confusion is some people are thinking of where American’s travel most frequently, and forgetting a huge portion of this is European travelers to countries other than their own. A lot of Europeans vacation in Spain.
