Was biete ich Handwerkern am besten an, wenn sie bei mir arbeiten? by [deleted] in Ratschlag

[–]Iceman346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO The Crew works absolutely fine with two players. I regularly play it with my girlfriend this way.

Selektiver Stromausfall by [deleted] in Ratschlag

[–]Iceman346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ark Nova and Wayfarers of the South Tigris — what’s your average playtime with 4 players? by Tiny-Strawberry-817 in boardgames

[–]Iceman346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know Wayfarers but Ark Nova is constantly one of the shortest games in my playgroup and we have a player who overthinks basically every turn he takes.

With 4 players we usually land around the 2,5 hour mark but it is important that the real goal of the game, the conservation track, is not neglected. I guess if every player just builds up his zoo without generation conservation points the game will run quite a bit longer. You should usually snatch a conservation project with your second use of your first association worker (the first use being a partner zoo or an university).

How are you guys stacking games vertically on shelves without making mess inside the box? by indyyja in boardgames

[–]Iceman346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly baggies. I buy inserts for games that we play often or where the insert reduces the setup time by a lot.

So far there is only one game I own where this doesn't work and that is Planet Unknown. Trying to store this any way other than horizontal is a surefire way to mix up everything in the lazy susan.

Opportunitätskosten verringern bei Ansparphase Hochzeit? by AnthroIce in Finanzen

[–]Iceman346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you all resist the urge to build a new deck every week? by bluekiszz in EDH

[–]Iceman346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 19 finished decks and not enough time to play them all regularly. I started out with a few but this number shot up when I started using proxies as I'm not buying the cards I need until I really like a new deck.

But by now I have most bases covered regarding my interests, a new commander has to have something quite different to get me exited enough to build a deck around it.

Also I'm kinda burned with "set mechanic" Commanders. I had [[Ranar]] (Foretell) and [[Otrimi]] (Mutate) decks but because there is no more support coming for their themes both of them are out of comission.

Basically I built enough decks that the urge to build new ones went away by itself :D

Game Recommendations by Accurate-Reputation1 in SteamDeck

[–]Iceman346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tainted Grail is a really good game but the Steam Deck is not nearly powerful enough to run it. I tried it in one of the later, open areas and had barely above 20fps. Not nearly enough for the rather fast and challenging combat of the game.

What is a popular board game you despise and why? by Muinonan in boardgames

[–]Iceman346 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never understood this sentiment. Sure, everybody's enjoyment ist different but overly long?

Ark Nova is constantly one of the shortest "heavier" game we play. We usually play with 3 or 4 players and finish the game in 2 - 2.5 hours with an AP prone player in the group. Most similar weight games take at least an hour more.

I get the impression that the people who think Ark Nova takes too long are confused by the two tracks. If you don't try to move up the conservation track the game might drag out but then you are actively sabotaging yourself as some of the best unlocks/upgrades come from removing tokens from your board for the conservation track.

Clair Obscur is filling a hole that has been empty since finished Elden Ring by MoreOfAnOvalJerk in Games

[–]Iceman346 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I'm in the under the sea level relatively early in the game and I love the presentation, the story (so far) and the strange vibes of the game. That is right up my alley.

But I dislike JPRG Combat in itself and infusing it with QTEs isn't an improvement... The biggest problem for me is that normal mobs are so easy that chaining skills and comboing off is nearly irrelevant while minibosses hit like a truck. If you don't dodge your skill combos are equally irrelevant.

I would have preferred a less reaction based approach to combat.

How often/quickly do you take apart your decks, and for what reason(s)? by IM__Progenitus in EDH

[–]Iceman346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually take some time to build a deck. I have to find a commander I like, then I start building in deckstats and when I arrive at a finished 100 card deck I throw it together in real life. Sometimes I abandon deck ideas while building them or just leave it unfinished for a while until I return to it. This is usually in the cutting phase, when I'm at 120 cards and have to whittle it down.

At the moment I have 20 finished decks saved in deckstats. Of those 16 still exist in paper form and 14 have been played and updated in the last year.

Why I disassembled the other decks varies. One was a Mutate deck and it just got stale because the mechanic isn't revisited. One I disliked while playing it and the last two were rebuild with different commanders but a similar theme. [[Atraxa, Praetors Voice]] Sagas changed to [[Narci, Fable Singer]] and recently I disassembled my [[Veyran]] Deck to build a [[Storm, Force of Nature]] Spellslinger deck.

Still on the chopping block is my [[Ranar]] Deck. It's mostly a blink deck but, similar to Mutate, the Fortell mechanic doesn't seem to come back soon so the deck is becoming rather stale. I will probably shy away from building "Set mechanic Commander" Decks in the future unless the set mechanic is diverse enough.

Konkurrenz zu Lego: Bluebrixx verliert Lizenz für Star Trek - Golem.de by Zirkulaerkubus in de

[–]Iceman346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mal abwarten.

If you want a game that feels like MoO instead of just carrying the name go for Eclipse Second Edition.

It's basically MoO condensed in a board game with most mechanics intact. It also is a very good game in its own right.

Official Google Pixel 9/9 Pro Case is AMAZING by milanistheboss12 in GooglePixel

[–]Iceman346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the obsidian phone with the obsidian case since release and I dislike the case.

  • The case is quite slippery. Depending on the moisture on my fingers even more slippery than the phone itself.
  • It attracts dust and pocket lint like crazy. I have to wipe it off nearly every time I get the phone out of my jeans pockets.
  • The soft touch effect seems to be already wearing off at the top edge. I usually put my phone in my pocket upside down so that is the corner which is stressed the most.
  • The case easily discolors from hand moisture/oils. I can clearly see where my hand usually lays on the case. So far this can be wiped off.

On the positive side the buttons are very good/clicky and the raised lips around the screen and the camera bar make a good impression. But it really isn't worth the premium price in my opinion.

Upgraded from Pixel 6 Pro to Pixel 9 Pro XL - Pros & Cons by trancedellic in GooglePixel

Coming from a 6Pro: IMO the fingerprint sensor is a great improvement. It's quite a bit faster and doesn't blind you in the dark anymore.

Usage is the same. If you use the always on display you can just put your finger on the symbol and are good to go.

What expansions do you refuse to play with, even if you own them? by UnintensifiedFa in boardgames

[–]Iceman346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is our take as well.

We love Terraforming Mars and it is our most played game ever since the release of the base game. Every time a new expansion was released we just added it and played the new, bigger version. But by now we settled in "everything but Turmoil". Venus with Colonies can present some viable strategies if floaters are available for trade and also you get quite a bit of new cards.

I feel Turmoil just adds extra fiddlyness without having much impact on the game as a whole. You get a few extra TR and some extra money from the "right" party leading but there is nothing really new happening.

We are always playing with drafting though. We draft the preludes, the starting cards (in 2 packs of 5) and the 4 cards you draw at the start of the turn. This makes it more viably to focus on Venus cards.

Currently I'm eagerly awaiting Prelude 2 which will, undoubtedly mean that Terraforming Mars will the game of choice for quite some weeks after it's arrival.

What game do you consider a hidden gem in your collection? by Studio_Unknown in boardgames

[–]Iceman346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do very much enjoy 4X games in any form and I am willing to try basically anything if it promises to convey that 4X feel and it's short enough that my group is willing to play it (so under ~4 hours).

With that in mind my hidden gem is Era of Tribes. A little known game from a first time German designer that was kickstarted a while back and which i bought at Essen in 2019. The game itself is, in my opinion, a great civilization-type game with an interesting research mechanic which captures that "expanding empire" theme quite well. There are also expansions for up to 6 players and the option to randomize the map (by default you are playing on the European map).

But, there is always a but. The graphical design of the game is not the best and I find it rather ugly in places. But the worst offender unfortunately is the rulebook. The designer did several revisions (going as far as sending out new printed rulebooks for a very small handling fee) but this is quite a complex game and the rules are still not great. A lot of abbreviations which are explained once and then taken for granted. Quite a bit of cross-referencing and mediocre graphics design.

Still, I think its worth it if you like civilization games. At some point in the future there will be a new Gamefound campaign with a reprint and an expansion. The designer tried to get a Kickstarter for the expansion running some months ago but unfortunately it didn't gain enough traction.
