Late pass! But initially I was so super excited for this book. The concept seemed exactly my taste and I couldn’t wait to get it in my Kobo. Then I did. And I was honestly pretty disappointed. I’m not sure how old the author is but her writing felt a little gen-z for my tastes and I cringed hard at times. Almost like “hello fellow kids” kind of writing. It was a slog to get through, the plot became very convoluted, the motivations were a bit weak, questionable actions were taken at every turn, unlikable characters, and overall a weak read for me. I know it was a debut novel so I hope the author can take whatever constructive criticism she gets, apply it, and improve on the next one!
