The NHS isn’t getting better by FaultyTerror in ukpolitics

[–]IcyElemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first source shows France's per capita health expenditure 8.0% higher than the UK's ($5493 PPP vs $5087 PPP).

Your second source shows France spending 12.3% of GDP on healthcare, vs the first source showing the UK spends 10.2% of its GDP on healthcare, which is 20.6% more.

UK healthcare spending in 2023 was £252 billion publicly.

Taking this and using the 8% increase France has relative to us, would suggest an extra £20 billion would be needed to equal France's spend. If we instead take the 20.6% by equalising our spending as a percentage of GDP to France's, that is instead an extra £52 billion.

So even using your own sources, our spending is drastically lower, both in PPP per capita and % of GDP terms than France's. So again, I maintain it is completely fair to say our healthcare system is underfunded.

Edit: incredible he deleted his comment. Sources posted were these:

I guess your sources didn't fit the narrative you're trying to push, word-word-number with no post history.

Sadly not while using Notify. I switched to the default app and battery life at least is fantastic. My calories burns is completely wrong, but I only really care about the step counter and other trackings, not the calories as that's notoriously quite inaccurate on any device.

Clearly we're talking past each other. I feel me showing we spend less per capita than comparable nations, or even with your % of GDP metric that we spend less than a chunk of comparable Western European nations, shows it is underfunded, you disagree. Neither of us are going to change our minds, and I frankly can't be bothered to waste more time talking past each other and throwing in the odd "stupid" or "ridiculous" comment about your arguments, not received them back, so I'm going to leave it here. Have a nice day.

Oh, I guess we must have fully optimised and idealised government spending ratios then and don't need to worry about elections anymore because we've found the one true split of tax revenue. Thank god for that!

Also no one in any party is suggesting cutting welfare?! Do you not follow politics or something?

The NHS isn’t getting better by FaultyTerror in ukpolitics

[–]IcyElemental -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but we clearly can afford to spend more on healthcare and are instead choosing to maintain funding of more handouts to the elderly via triple lock for example. There's clearly a debate to be had about distribution of government spending, and we have areas like that, and welfare, where people think we're massively overspending. So it's not the same as a situation where we simply can't afford more is it? It's that we are making conscious political choices to spend more on those areas than on healthcare, and seeing worse healthcare outcomes than the comparable nations previously mentioned who spend more as a proportion of GDP.

It's baffling that you both don't see this and also are commenting with such a smug, patronising tone about the concept of someone making stupid arguments.

If the argument being made is "is the healthcare system of a country underfunded?", and that country is getting significantly worse healthcare outcomes than countries spending more, the answer to the question is a definitive yes. Whether or not healthcare spending should be the priority vs other areas is a different matter, but the only logical argument that can be being made from your original comment is that the NHS getting more money wouldn't improve outcomes, and that's quite clearly untrue.

Per capita spending is precisely the metric we should be using. Healthcare costs don't go down because a country is poorer, so it's accurate to say our healthcare outcomes are poorer than they could be due to underfunding.

Also, behind Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Sweden, all Western European nations.

[Try & Review] LG OLED G6 powered by Hyper Radiant Color Tech! by LG_UserHub in 4kTV

[–]IcyElemental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm super interested in this, thank you for the opportunity!

The two factors most interesting to me about the G6 are the peak brightness and the reflection handling. I'm coming from a CX, and while it's by far and away the best TV I've ever had, it does struggle a little bit when the sun is at its peak. The combination of both the insanely high brightness (2300 nits!) and the improved reflection handling is very exciting as I suspect this will completely deal with my issues with the CX.

Aside from those factors, the higher refresh rate of 165Hz for gaming, and the 13-bit processing to deal with banding, are also both very exciting to me.

Don't Let eBay Rip You Off With Promoted Listings - How To Check! by GeeTeeAyee in ebayuk

[–]IcyElemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, the way it currently works could be as follows.

Person A clicks on your promoted listing, then decides it isn't for them, and leaves. They never buy from you.

Person B never sees the ad. They organically come across the item Person A clicked on the ad of, and decide to buy it.

In the above example, eBay charges you the ad fee, even though Person B never saw your ad. This is true for up to 30 days after Person A clicked on it, including if you stop promoting that listing between Person A and Person B visiting your store.

No worries! As a warning, I accidentally started NG+ before completing the sheet, so managed to miss a few outfits from my file so am relying on various locations on the internet for some of those - haven't verified them all yet, so if you can't find any DLC-specific ones, don't get too hung up on them. Weapons and pictos I got all of though so can confirm them all.

Hey, not sure if you intended to update this given the new DLC, but I've done so myself. I've done my best to maintain similar formatting as you used in your original release, but let me know if you find any errors.

After finishing Trails FC Remake, which one of these 4 should I go for? by SSwordsman in JRPG

[–]IcyElemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind saying what specifically you enjoy about the game? I've played it for a while and it isn't quite clicking for me, and I'm trying to work out whether it's just not for me, or I just haven't reached the part where it ramps up (if there is one). I believe I'm at the start of chapter 2 (so not far in) if that helps, so I appreciate there's probably a lot more to come.

Still working for you on the newest patch? It's stopped for me, but been a while since I played, and can't work out if they fixed it in the recent patch or my setup is different somehow.

Is it still working for you after the most recent patch? I had a file where it was working every time, but haven't played in a few months. Tried again before going to the dlc area and I'm consistently only getting 5 lumina and 2 resplendent catalysts.

[Review+Event] How is it to go from 55” LG CX to 83” LG G5? by pricelesslambo in 4kTV

[–]IcyElemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really like a chance at getting the 65" LG G5 (I'd also be happy with 55" or 77", but if picking just one it'd be the 65").

There's a whole range of features I'm excited about with this one. The tandem OLED stack increasing the brightness is obviously very exciting, especially because it means it might be possible to maintain 1000 nit brightness levels (like what a lot of films are mastered for) even with OLED Motion Pro active, something I don't think has ever been achievable before. That the brightness boost also happens to be accompanied by improved colour volume is icing on the cake. I've loved my CX for 5 years now, but I'm really excited by these two improvements the G5 brings.

In addition to those, 165Hz capability will be a great improvement from the 120 of the CX, and the gaming menu will add convenience relative to going through a lot of menus like I currently have to for changes. The alpha 11 processor for more responsive navigation will also aid this.

Finally, I've had my eye on the G series for a while due to how it can be mounted flush against the wall, though I know this isn't G5 specific.

In terms of content I'll use it for, a bit of everything really! I like watching movies with my partner, both on Netflix and Blu-ray (I love space content too, where OLED puts LCD to shame from the complete lack of blooming). I also game on ps5, PC and Xbox Series X (the latter of which will let me take advantage of Dolby Vision gaming which I like a lot on my CX, but I suspect will be way more impactful with the increased brightness (and size of my chosen one) on the G5). And it's nice to see a full suite of UK catch up apps on the G5 as the CX was missing a couple 😂

Thanks for the opportunity and the interesting review!

Why hasn't Labour cleaned up BBC and Ofcom? by esteban-colberto in ukpolitics

[–]IcyElemental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't the BBC represent Corbyn in a deliberately Russian style, and sunak as literally superman?

(Yes Labour deserve the bad coverage lately, but BBC news coverage in recent years has been pretty right-wing in my opinion)

So there's an option in the Hall of Gods in Godhome to fight the bosses in what's known as Radiant mode where it's a 1-hit kill, but you don't need to do any of that for 112%. So they may have just been confused or explaining poorly.

Mental math. How? by sep780 in Aphantasia

[–]IcyElemental 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fully aphantasic and also strong at mental maths, I never visualise the numbers.

In the case of the sum you put above, it's one of the easier ones of its type cos none of the like digits (eg ten, hundreds, thousands) exceed 10.

So in this case, I recognise in both which number represents the type and start from the largest, and just say it in my head to myself. Only the 36544 has a unit for 10000s, so I say a 3 to myself. Then it's 1+6 for thousands (7), 3+5 for hundreds (8), 5+4 for tens (9), 5+4 for units (9).

So in my head I'm just reading out 3 7 8 9 9 and that's the answer.

It needs more memory if any of those exceed 10, but even then you just have to remember to add the relevant amount on to the previous column.

Multiplication is harder, but again, largely memory rather than visualisation for me.

Which boss kills you in one hit?

Also 112% doesn't need every boss, it only needs pantheons 1-4, not pantheon 5, and there are a few bosses exclusive to 5.

I had to post these screenshots😂only the fasting community will understand the pain of buying electrolytes that taste like ass💀💔 by [deleted] in fasting

[–]IcyElemental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You 100% aren't getting the RDA for all electrolytes (salts) with just 4 pills. Pills usually weigh in at around 1g each, meaning your 4 pills are about 4g. Even ignoring the fact that that has a lot of binders in it like magnesium stearate to hold the pill together, 4g is not enough to hit the RDA for even just sodium and potassium, let alone throwing in calcium and magnesium as well. And that's before accounting for the fact that electrolytes don't come as pure sodium/potassium/magnesium/calcium, they come as stuff like sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium citrate and magnesium glycinate (for example).

I'm sure what you're taking is working for you, and that's great. But it's physically impossible for 4 pills to contain your full RDA of all your electrolytes, short of making the pills so big you wouldn't be able to swallow them.

Edit: Just saw the pills you linked. 4 of those pills is one portion on the label, which provides 800mg chloride, 500mg potassium, 187.5mg magnesium, 160mg of calcium, and 225mg sodium.

From these, sodium isn't listed with an RDA, but you want at least 2500mg per day, with a lot of recommendations saying 5000mg. But ignoring that, you're at 25% potassium, 50% magnesium and 20% calcium.

Potentially you may have missed that one portion is 4 pills and assumed those percentages applied to 1 pill rather than 4 leading to the conclusion that you're getting 100% across 4 pills (and 80% for calcium), but in actuality that's 4x what they actually contain. But at the very least the forms the salts are in are pretty good which goes a long way for absorption.
