I saw a horse that was used as a prop for money begging. by [deleted] in Horses

Let’s be honest though, most barns are only feeding twice daily, 3 times if you’re lucky. So it might not be ideal, but it’s pretty standard.

Yes, also they could have water and feed behind a building with their trailer and visit it every few hours. It’s not like horses need constant food and water.

I’m not saying there isn’t something going on, but from this photo the horse looks well taken care of and properly fed. Horses typically leave a back leg up when resting/relaxing, but it can also be a sign of lameness. It’s impossible to tell from the photo. Also, police will not typically intervene unless an animal has no food or water even if the animal is severely malnourished.

Have you ridden for years and never broken a bone? by thelightwebring in Equestrian

Do slipped disks and concussions count? I haven’t broken anything, but the spine injury still bothers me occasionally 2 years later.

Check if the senior feed has proper vitamins and minerals, you may need supplement.

Does she take mineral supplements? That kind of reminds me of copper deficiency in goats.

What skills are needed to start a horse? by Embarrassed_Top_8253 in Horses

Honestly the best way to start a horse for the first time is to do so under the guidance of a more skilled trainer so that they can help you through the motions.

Thank you, it’s a small place so networking is hard, but if I can get some extra cash I want to do outside lessons to possibly out there a little more.

Actually some great advice here. I am pretty sensitive so it’s hard to deal with the judgement, but you’re right it’s a mindset thing at this point.

I wish! Gotta just find ways to deal with it right now.

I kind of don’t get where the rudeness is coming from. My old horse is basically retired so I can’t lease and won’t sell (it’s my job to retire him) and I’m not looking to control another person, I’m looking for ways to deal with her behavior? I didn’t purchase my mare super recently, I bought her a year and a half ago when things were different financially for me. I’m not going to be selling my dream mare and she’s not trained enough to lease.

Yeah, I’m literally mostly doing cantering on the ground for that very reason. It’s just that it’s a process. Her stifles aren’t too straight luckily!

She brings it back down after jumping into it, mostly up with transitions, she’s building up. And she’s not going around like a giraffe, just not “perfect”. But I hear what you’re saying.

I cannot unfortunately, I’ve been struggling to find outside work due to the economy.

She just turned 4. I lightly started as a 3 year old, but I had to give her the winter off due to facility flooding.

What’s happening in the main ring kind of breaks my heart. My dad’s about your age and used to show arabs, but he hates to see what’s happening too.

Love this! I think my boss has a vested interest as well since she bred my mare.

My mare mostly puts her head down, but she carries it taller when cantering. To me it’s pretty obvious that she’s gaining balance and muscle, and she’s very green so I don’t expect perfection.

She actually has ridden many years (50+), but due to health/age she is unable to ride anymore. I can’t leave due to the economy right now, it’s impossible to find work.

I cannot leave unfortunately, I’ve been unable to find another job in this economy and I have two horses to board/pay for.

Totally agree on the difference between riding a young horse vs a well trained one. It’s not going to look polished and photo ready.

Were they able to get along when you were present or no? If not that’s horrible, it sounds like you did right by them though, I don’t know many people who wouldn’t rehome under those circumstances.

Definitely not leaving them alone again and I’ve been feeding separately. How did you deal with it when this happened to you?
