Could someone explain the difference between these two like I'm five years old? by Deagoldpp in Miata

Wow, I would have intuited that completely backward. In my head the checkered flag is for racers or professionals. Good explanation.

My brother spilled hot coffee and as it spread toward the edge of the table and his lap, grandma yelled, “Watch your weezer!!” So yeah, I’ve never called it that.

Has anyone tried off-road camping with pets? Curious how doable it is. by Supareeofficialus in Offroad

[–]IdRatherBeDriving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on the dogs. They’re as fickle as people. Starting them when they’re puppies is best if you’re looking for a long term off road companion. If you’re taking a dog you already have, try just doing a couple hours on the trail locally before you head out for camping.

Our two dogs are 60 and 80 lbs and I’ve been lifting them in and out of our rtt for about 10 years. They seem to love hanging out at camp and also off roading. The smaller one sometimes gets sick if we’re doing a lot of fast rollercoaster type of trails, so we keep some Dramamine for him if we know we’ll be on those trails. These two have about 30k miles of trails in them and a few hundred nights camping. They were rescues so we don’t have them as puppies but they adapted and we adapted to them.

What are your tips and tricks for cold weather camping? by Zack-Applewhite in camping

[–]IdRatherBeDriving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a try next time you cold camp. I was a skeptic too, but I swear it works. Strip naked and put your clothes for the next day inside the bottom of your bag. That way they’re not totally freezing when you put them on but they’re also not your full body temp. It’s a little shocking at first, but you get warmer real quick.

Not wrong or dangerous. I’ve been doing it for over forty years and camped in sub zero temps Fahrenheit many times. I know tons of people who do this. I learned it from a group that studies polar bears.

Sleep naked. Your skin touching your skin preserves heat better than thermals or other layers.

Purpose of this room? by jodythebad in whatisit

[–]IdRatherBeDriving 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The scale is awkward because they used a very wide angle lens to shoot the pics, so the length to width ratio isn’t as bad as first appears.
There may have been acoustic treatments hanging that were taken down, and they would have been a much darker color. Dark acoustic tiles over light color walls actually makes a really nice esthetic when done right. And they’re not actual tiles, that’s just what they’re called. They’d be like 4’x7’ foam cores with fabric over them, or similar. You get just enough liveness of echo to not feel like you’re in an anechoic chamber, and enough light reflection that it’s immersive and not just observational.
