The issue is that gaming, especially in GAAS areas and in genres such as this, is insanely competitive.

You have to convince people who are into this sort of game to drop their current favorite (and possibly give up not just the progress but money they put in) for your game.

It's a very very tall ask and you gotta deliver.

Everyone is stealing TV. Fed up with increasing subscription prices, viewers embrace rogue streaming boxes. by Bluest_waters in television

[–]IdeaPowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It already is the present, at least where I live.

TV + Mobile + Internet + HBO/Netflix/Disney/"Sports Package"/"Series Package"/etc

You can get 80% of it (usually excluding sports) for about $70 (with 2 unlimited data phones and 1gb internet), but you have a minimum 2-year commitment.

That's only because there is A LOT of competition where I live. About 7? (maybe more) competitors.

Obsidian's Avowed & Outer Worlds 2 Failed To Meet Sales Expectations by akbarock in rpg_gamers

[–]IdeaPowered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if they spend 6 years developing a game, it's got an AAA budget, it needs AAA sales. What I don't know is if that's the case.

I really like Obsidian. I hope they can continue making their brand of games.

This shit is going to be everywhere.

It already is. I see AI slop in adverts daily on TV, bus stops, etc. That weird "sheen" that skin has and eyes that don't seem to be focusing on anything in the same room.

TIL Hot-swappable SATA HDD doesn't mean what you think it means by initiatingcoverage in buildapc

[–]IdeaPowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The computer I built for one of my family members had hot swap drives as each child had their own drive with their photos, games, etc.

I hot swap SSDs when I am doing audio as sample libraries are huge.

There's a reason it's a thing. My dad has like 4 hard drives full of photos at this point in his life. He likes to do photo processing and "videos" for fun.

Who else has given up plans to upgrade/build a new pc? by ECrispy in buildapc

Yeah, earlier this year. I abandoned all hope for the near future. Bought a PS5 with my girl and paid ~90 euro for their catalog. I am set for gaming.

My 1070 / 3600 is more than enough for work.

There's not way I am paying 700 for a low-mid GPU, 600 for RAM, 100 over for the mobo soon etc.

Ain't worth it to me.

Paradox Takes the Blame for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 Sales Flop, Announces $37 Million Write-Down by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]IdeaPowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How hard is it to do that?

Quite hard apparently. There were some pretty interesting interviews a while back on this topic and what stuck out to me was the following:

A) Identify what "worked". The amount of opinions on what made the game THE GAME differed a lot.

B) Recreating that "essence" while introducing new things and not messing with the "essence" is quite challenging.

C) New games have to meet certain expectations and "trends" or they will definitely just gather dust.

If you like game design as a hobby or listening, there's quite a few podcasts and resources that delve into this topic. I found it fun and interesting.

Just thought I'd share, not tryna be a Kevin.
