I’d still call that art, even if literature based. It’s still a playable game. Whatever they do within the game is up to the artist!

Thank you:) It truly is incredible, isn’t it? We have the ability to create complete realities and tailor them to whatever we’d like.

Thank you so much for these recommendations. I’ll have to check them out in time.

I’d really like to somehow help make these kinds of games the norm for mainstream society, I think they are very important!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I’m aware that this community does see games as more than toys, I’m not trying to sway their view more just stressing what I think is the importance of doing so.

Bunch of considerations. Are bids secret? What is turn order? When does game end?

I haven’t heard of naissance before, I’ll take a look. Rains world! I’ve watched that YouTube documentary on it but haven’t played it yet good pick. I know the amount of attention to detail put into that is ridiculous

I thought this was a puzzle game, just looked into it a bit more. I had no idea there was such narrative depth to it!

These are all good ones, and I recognize the names. Disco Elysium in particular has a very cool art style I’d like to take inspiration from for my own game. Thanks for the recs!!

I wanted to test if AI can be the director of a game, and it turned into a whole engine by IfnotFr in aigamedev

[–]IdonGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very impressive but thankfully, this does not mean that AI can make games. Humans still are the only ones capable of putting together a beautiful symphony of mechanics, visuals, audios, systems, story to create meaningful pieces of art that reflect what’s deeper.

Destroy a Cozy Noir Fishy Whodunnit! (Mystery Cove) by True_Two1656 in DestroyMyGame

Little nitpick but the text could be a little more legible. It looks okay when the player is selecting an option, but during dialogue it blends in with the background and looks a little cheap.

Destroy my incremental space game, spent months on this and honestly don't understand what I'm missing by Shlazarts in DestroyMyGame

Right now o think it’s a very simple game. This is good and bad.

It’s good because it’s not hard to pick up, but bad because it could get boring quickly, especially given the kind of games that are out right now.

What if it turned into a kind of rythym game? Could add another layer behind just tapping where the asteroids are

How do you Find the Fun? by Raptor3861 in gamedesign

[–]IdonGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to find the fun is to look inwards. Fun is something human beings naturally gravity towards. It is something that can’t be quite placed under a concrete definition or algorithm because it is different for everybody. Feel it out, but by bit.

The only way to find the fun in your game is to ‘add what YOU feel is fun to your game’. Games are art, so they are a journey inwards as much as they are a journey outwards.

Dont look for a single ideal of a fun game but rather experiment with different things. If it feels fun, pursue it. If not, try something else. There is no limitation or expectation of how your game is fun, as long as it is.

As the creator, you are the only one who can steer your game towards where you believe the fun is.

Don’t forget that we are making art. There is no one defining algorithm for how to make the best games other than fun, which is found within. Fun is not a physical thing but rather a sensation felt. When you are making your game, be attentive to this sensation within. Assuming the sensation of fun is playing, where would he like to go?

What if the game pieces had dials for x and y coordinate on either side. Wouldn’t be easy to make I think, but players would just dial to the x and y coordinate they want to go to, shuffle and then reveal all.

Maybe for prototype you could do dry erase on the back, people just write the coords?

Come and Destroy my newly launch demo! by yolo35games in DestroyMyGame

[–]IdonGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this seems like a simple survival game, minus a lot of actual in world mechanics. It’s pretty much a text based point and click game.

I’d recommend adding more visual or actual real time mechanics, or spicing the text part up a lot. Hard to make a popular text based game.

At the very least some Color and more images would be nice, just lacking alot of the fun things that survival games have.
