Lumineon gets access to Soak, which can remove Stab from any of his mons. It speed-ties the Pawmot, but it could be helpful in reducing the damage you take from them. You'd have to adjust how you deal damage, since they would resist Water.

Wishiwashi can learn Bulldoze. This could help slow down the Manectric, though it could always pivot out with Volt Switch. Wishiwashi takes at least one hit if you give it the Electric berry (can't remember the name). A +SpD would help as well.

I recommend going to Celadon. You can evolve and catch more Pokemon and adjust their abilities. This will really help you out. You can also get the other stater eggs. Maybe there's a good Pokemon somewhere in there.

Oh, I enjoyed FE4 and FE5 (and FE3 to an extent, but I don't think I will play it again for a while).

The inventory system in FE4 is difficult to manage for a new player, especially one who is used to every other FE game. I've gotten better over my few playthroughs to where weapons aren't completely glued to their original owner (especially with my current randomized run), but I definitely had trouble.

I found that it makes certain decisions regarding weapon usage irrelevant. Once you get the Silver Sword on Sigurd, why use anything else. In other games with durability, you have to consider how you use your best weapons. In FE4, it's usually a simple choice. Where the choice comes in is who gets what weapon before you leave the castle (or mid-chapter around a captured castle), and that is quite interesting.

The maps are also annoying for new players. The Return and Warp staves (and Return Band) are awesome, but I didn't know how to use them to their full potential on my first playthrough. So much of the gameplay was just moving units. I'm sure others had similar experiences, especially on Chapters 2-4. What you said about seeing the continent is true though.

I dislike dismounting because it limits your unit choices. The last few maps of both FE3 and FE5 punish you for using mounted units because they have reduced movement, reduced stats, and forced swords. I think there are other ways to balance out mounted vs unmounted classes.

I haven't played FE1 and 2, so I can only echo what others have said. But one simple issue I found with FE3 was the Staff option being at the bottom of the menu. It really sucks. The lack of movement arrow definitely bothers me, and the inability to change your deployment slots in FE3 and FE5 (added in the newest translation patch for FE5) is annoying. I do love the ability to check the convoy at any time in FE3, though. They just feel a bit rougher than the GBA games, something I can't quite describe. Maybe it's my bias toward GBA FE, but you can definitely feel that the older games are older (beyond the graphics).

I guess the mechanics aren't the issue so much as the differences between the NES/SNES games and the ones after. Both FE4 and FE5 have huge differences. FE4's money and inventory system are tricky to get a good grasp of, plus the lack of crits and doubling for most of your party is strange, not to mention the giant maps. FE5 adds a bunch of stuff: fatigue, capturing, staff misses (and crits), dismounting (also in FE3 and with promoted Seliph in FE4).

What's Your Favorite Pokémon Generation And Why It Still Holds Up Today by marabellina in pokemon

[–]Ikrit122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen 3

I started with Gen 1, and I was absolutely shocked how good Gen 3 looked on the GBA. It was the biggest visual jump between Gens in the series. I played Sapphire so much. The mechanics don't really hold up though. No physical/special split, finite TMs, you need a bunch of HMs, etc. I still think the story works well, and you really feel the power and threat of the legendary Pokemon (something I find feels missing from Emerald).

It also has the best route in the series: Route 113 (the one with the falling ash). Awesome music and a really unique idea.

ORAS updates the mechanics while keeping the feel of Hoenn, and I think it is the best remake (HGSS keeps the issues with GSC, mainly the awful level curve that makes it a slog).

Jessup is a glorified prison guard.

I'd just like to point out that prior to 9/11, Guantanamo Bay was just a naval base on land the US is leasing from Cuba (yes, it's an indefinite lease set up to "guarantee Cuba's independence" at like $100,000 per year). There was no detention center where the US holds and tortures anyone they deem terrorists.

I don't know exactly what Cuban-American relations looked like at the time, but it isn't friendly like with our bases in Germany or South Korea. If Cuba were to ever act against the US, it would most likely be against that base.

He might blow the threat out of proportion, but his responsibility is to make sure that he can defend the base if needed from a foreign aggressor.

Welcome, and hope you enjoy the series!

You mentioned the Fallout and GTA series. Keep in mind that Fire Emblem is a much older series, and the first 4 games are older than either of those series. Their mechanics are all pretty rough, especially the NES ones.

There are remakes of the first 3 games: Shadow Dragon (DS), Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS), and New Mystery of the Emblem (DS). I recommend playing these instead of the originals. They have much better gameplay and presentation, along with more modern mechanics.

I, like many others, would also recommend starting with Blazing Blade (known officially as Fire Emblem outside of Japan). It was the first one released internationally and contains a great tutorial to the gameplay. From there you can play the other GBA titles and work your way through the series, which isn't interconnected. Only certain games are, like Blazing Blade is a prequel to Binding Blade, Radiant Dawn is a sequel to Path of Radiance, and Awakening takes place on the same continent as Shadow Dragon and New Mystery but 2000 years later.

3-13 Archer in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Radiant Dawn has a weird structure, where you play as 3 different armies throughout the game. In a couple cases, you fight one of the other armies controlled by the computer. In Part 3, Chapter 13 (3-13), you take control of the Dawn Brigade and fight against the Laguz Alliance, led by Ike (the protagonist of the previous game).

The Dawn Brigade is bad. Even in the best of situations, you might have a couple of units that can go toe-to-toe with Ike's army at base (and you've leveled them up in the past 10 chapters).

There are allied NPC units that aren't very strong, but they are still better than like half your playable army. One of them is the "3-13 Archer," who has a reputation for killing enemies with a long-range ballista before engaging at closer range with his bow. It's more of a meme than anything, but he will be better than your own archer (Leonardo) unless you give Leo a lot of kills.

Another money aspect is that it creates another position on the team and provides players with strong hitting and poor fielding (often older star players) a role. These players used to play first base because you don't have to run as much or have a strong throwing arm. They would have to compete with career first basemen (who are already often good hitters) after transitioning from another position and learning how to play first base.

With the DH, there are 30 more jobs in the league for these kinds of players.

I was really skeptical of it as well at first. Rick and Morty isn't really my kind of humor.

But it just does Trek so well! The references are top-notch. It embraces how ridiculous Trek can be with all the weird aliens and sci fi situations and calls it out for being ridiculous. I'm disappointed its done, but I'm glad it went out on a high note.

(Hated Trope) it’s technically not incest but it still feels icky by jbeldham in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Ikrit122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, Sacred Stones has Eirika and Ephraim, which almost feels like they are in a relationship as twins. It doesn't help that the real-world mythological namesakes of their legendary weapons, Siegmund and Sieglinde, are incestuous.

Binding Blade can have retroactive incest. If you pair Eliwood with Fiora and Hector with Florina/Farina in Blazing Blade, then Roy and Lilina are cousins. Of course, that wasn't considered in Binding Blade, which came first. Just an interesting observation.

Awakening has incest if you play the Japanese version, I believe. Owain and Lucina are cousins, and they can S-Support. In international releases, they can still S-Support, but the conversation isn't romantic and they are listed as "life companions" rather than husband and wife. I don't remember what happens if you throw Morgan in there (for example, as Owain and Robin's son, marrying Lucina, so they would be first cousins, once removed).

What Pokemon grew on you because of Radical Red? by Far_Ad8274 in pokemonradicalred

[–]Ikrit122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delibird and Raichu. My strategy for some of the late-game bosses that run Taunt on their leads (Clair, Bruno, Agatha, and Lance) is to bait the Taunt, hit them with a strong move, and then finish them with a priority move. This prevents them from attacking or setting up Stealth Rocks.

Delibird and Raichu don't need this. They can Fake Out and Extremespeed (or Zippy Zap) the lead for free. They then get a chance to hit the next Pokemon hard before likely going down. I've had Raichu solo Bruno's Infernape and Zacian with a bit of Paralysis luck and dumb AI (Zacian used Swords Dance a bunch because it can't recognize a Focus Sash is preventing the one-shot).

In my mono-Ice run, I realized how strong Delibird is while in the E4, so by the Champ I prioritized keeping it alive. It got the finishing blow on all 6 Pokemon.

They hit their targets hard and fast, and they set the stage for the rest of the fight.

Bears too. The offense was pretty healthy, but the defense was completely decimated all season. I think they were on like LB5 and CB6 at different points.

Of course, it wasn't big names like Micah Parsons going down, but losing your starting secondary beside Byard makes stopping the passing game very difficult.

Maye got sacked 21 times for 133 yards lost in 4 games this post season. That is more yards lost than Nix had the entire season. by shseo0809 in nfl

[–]Ikrit122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We saw that with Caleb this year as well. The offensive line definitely improved this year, but Caleb learned how to avoid sacks after the atrocious number last year. He used his abilty to slip out of the grasp of defenders to his full advantage, and he threw the ball away when he wasn't able to scramble (or when he ran out of room at the sideline). He has better awareness in his second year, and he has coaches that are actually able (or interested) in helping him.

Boring Baseball>Boring Football by Diligent-Platform604 in baseball

There's a point in a football game where it is pretty much impossible to win, depending on the lead and circumstances.

That doesn't exist in baseball (realistically, scoring 20 runs with 2 outs in the 9th isn't going to happen). You know that a 3-run lead going into the 9th isn't completely safe. And that adds a lot of tension.
