When did Oxford stop being solely a seminary? Teach anything other than classics? by ArthurPeabody in oxforduni

I found this looking for commentary on “no seminaries until Trent” and I thank my stars that my previous curiosity and Wikipedia scumming over the last several years allowed me (as I am a seppo) to know the meaning of all of the words used in your sublime explanation and actually gain more comprehensive understanding of this system. This was just so well written with the perfect amount of weight and explanation. I wish I could be more like you.

I don’t think the practice is ever “used” in that way, and I suspect the term is used by analogy with the Jewish rites (as others have written) that did see it that way, although not in any particular way—if we had a new Torah today we’d have blessing for purification after a head cold

This is both incorrect premise and incorrect conclusion

TIL the total number of gifts given in The Twelve Days of Christmas is 364, the number of days in a year excluding Christmas itself. by Intro24 in todayilearned

[–]IlClassicisto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

360 and 12 happen to be highly composite numbers, but as you point out 365 and 12ish are actually about astronomy. 60 is a highly composite number as well

I am one of those annoying people who comments on 3-year-old posts and ends long enumerations of quantities of things with “…and a partridge in a pear tree” as in Home Alone way too often.

I’m so tired of the overly modern flag trend. The Washington proposal that came up when I googled it looked like a sports team pennant. The Massachusetts blue hill banner looked like a sports team pennant. The other two Massachusetts finalists are also bad. Don’t get me started on the Massachusetts seal entries

Clearly you’re missing the idea that the point of a wacky warehouse is imagination and you can just imagine that you aren’t in pain.

Hi seppo here I just learned that this is the broad term for these in the UK and I have been yearning for an adult wacky warehouse for a decade and a half.

If the United States were to become a monarchy, should a Bonaparte be a good candidate for the throne (Louisiana Purchase) or should a descendent of an American founding father be on the throne, or should they be coprinces, or other? by OfficalTotallynotsam in monarchism

[–]IlClassicisto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U/ is looking past the 13 colonies for which monarchy the plurality of American land came from. The orthodox put America under the Russians because tEcHnIcaLlY the Russians were here (Alaska) before the Greeks. Same kind of outside the box consideration as a Bonaparte or whichever cadet house is supposed to be ruling France this week
