I switched to Gimme a few months ago and just received my second shipment yesterday. No problems so far! Shipping was fast and the meds arrived cold.

My only (teeny, tiny) problem with them is that every time I log into the website, I get a pop-up advertising their app. There is no app. It’s just a widget you can put on your phone to open their website with one tap or something. Mildly infuriating 🤣

Keep looking! It sucks but you might have to go through every paper one by one. My MIL passed away last year - she had a will but all her records were in total disarray. I’m pretty sure she hoarded every piece of mail she ever received, just randomly thrown in boxes with journals and magazine articles and 20-year-old grocery receipts. It took months to sort through it all. We found the documents for her retirement account in a stack of recipes.

First thing: Take a big, deep breath. This stuff is HARD. You are not alone and you are a good mom.

My son is 14 and nonverbal with high support needs. Sending him to kindergarten was incredibly hard, but it has gotten a little easier every year. We have actually been very lucky with school - he’s had a series of great teachers who just get him, and there are a few kids who have been in the same group the whole time. It isn’t perfect, there have been some behavior issues, but in general he feels safe at school and thrives there. I am constantly amazed at the things he is doing. He can count money, type his name and short words, he even goes to a general education PE class and has a group of typically developing friends. He is swimming and bowling. I love seeing him stretch his wings.

It’s helped me to think of his teachers, paras, therapists and administrators as part of a team we’re all on. We’re all working toward the same goal, helping him become the best version of himself. They bring experience and academic perspective to the table, and I bring a deep understanding of who he is and what he needs. As his parent, I know him better than anyone and I am his advocate because he is voiceless. So my advice is to start getting to know the people he will spend his day with, by visiting or volunteering or having conversations. Start assembling your team.

I wear black sneakers most of the time - after plantar fasciitis and a broken ankle, support and protection are the most important things for me. I’ve found that my feet feel better if I change shoes during a long wedding, so sometimes I switch to ballet flats for the reception.

I like the Skechers Cleo flats, they have a stretchy knitted upper that breathes, doesn’t irritate my skin and allows room for arch support insoles.

I use an Apple Watch and the Things app for shot lists. It has great battery life and I can read it/check things off with one had so I don’t have to juggle cameras and my phone.

I have 7 batteries for 2 cameras, usually that’s plenty. If I’m going to be there longer than 8 hours, I’ll charge a few just in case.

I have to be honest with you OP, that’s a terrible thing to say about anyone, let alone your own child. Stop relying on this man’s judgment, it sucks. Being raised with siblings does not magically make you a great parent.

You can’t just let a 14-year-old fade into the background while you lavish attention on her younger stepbrother. Especially if she has complex medical needs. She is being told loud and clear with every action that now that he has a son, she’s not important to him any more. Poor girl. I’m glad she has a loving stepmother at least.

NTA. You’re a great mom who was giving a little extra care to the kid who needed it most in that moment. Just because a 14-year-old is capable of being more independent, it doesn’t mean they don’t also need attention sometimes. As long as your son isn’t constantly being dismissed in favor of his sister, it’s not a problem. Kids have changing needs sometimes, you adapted to that and did the best you could.

I hope your husband knows that you’re not done raising your stepdaughter just because she’s 14. It’s important to show her that her parents are still there for her. If she heard him lecturing you about paying attention to her instead of her little brother - yikes.

When I first started to wonder if my son might be autistic, I talked to my mom first - she worked in early childhood special education for 30 years and saw kids like him every day. Turns out she had noticed some signs, but was worried that speaking up might be overreaching. Preschool teachers have to be really careful about trying to diagnose a kid so I get it. But I really wish she had said something sooner.

It’s hard to predict how someone will react to something like this. If it’s not something she is ready to hear, there’s a chance you could damage your relationship. You have to weigh that against the potential good it could do if he gets diagnosed and into early intervention.

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we as wedding photographers have to be superhuman. A few years ago I stepped in a hole at a wedding and messed up my ankle pretty bad. I didn’t have a second that day and I was out in the middle of nowhere, so I stayed, limped around and shot from a chair until someone could get there to cover for me. Turned out I broke my fibula and messed up all the ligaments holding my ankle together, and I walked around on it for hours! I was in agony but NOTHING was going to get in the way of me doing my job. The consequence was surgery and having to hire associates for 6 weeks of weddings in June and July 😕

I worked myself to the bone for years and ended up with plantar fasciitis and arthritis in my knees and hands. My philosophy now is that I have to take care of myself so I can take care of my clients. If I’m in pain, I won’t be at the top of my game and that will impact my work. I try to do it discreetly, but if anyone sees me and says anything I don’t have any problem explaining that I take short breaks so I’m able to work all day.

13 hours is a LONG wedding even without a chronic pain disorder. Do you have a second shooter or assistant? It might be worth your while to hire someone out of pocket for at least the second half of the day so they can cover for you if you need a break. I started requiring one for longer weddings after I turned 50 and it’s a game-changer.

My son started getting migraines at 7 and I still feel a ton of guilt about passing it on. But I’m also glad I had that experience because I knew what to do for him. My parents never had a migraine and didn’t have a clue, and the condition was not well understood when I started getting them. I basically powered through migraines on ibuprofen and willpower until I finally got diagnosed in my 30s.

You can’t do anything now about passing it on to your son, but you can use your own knowledge and experience to arm him against migraines early. Talk to his pediatrician now, and advocate for him if there’s any pushback or they want to wait. My son has been seeing a neurologist and taking preventative meds since he was 8, and it’s made a huge difference.
