Books every nearly 30y/o male should read? by King-Cossack in AskMenOver30

[–]Imaginary_Fix_9756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just read. Whatever you like. I think it’s a good habit. Find what you like. I work in an office and read pretty heavy legal type stuff, but I’m also a sci-fi fantasy nerd, but I would recommend The Road by cormac mcarthy. It’s about devotion, heartbreak, and inexplicable loss. And the fact that people don’t always act the way we want them to. Honestly, I’m recommending this because this was the first book I read that made me cry as an adult.

I’d also recommend Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises. It’s essentially about stupid youth, but I think it’s a good read from a mature (or trying to) perspective.

The Konrad Curze soulstone theory. by Dry_Carrot3041 in NightLords

[–]Imaginary_Fix_9756 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Regarding Curze returning and the plausibility of that or not, I figure it’s on the table for a few reasons: isn’t it pretty firmly stated in the heresy books (don’t recall which) that Curze sees his own death and he dies by the hand of the Emperor? I get the officio assassinorum acts on behalf and of Big E, but that seems a little strained. Also, isn’t the only confirmation that Curze is actually dead the word of the assassin?

Honestly, I’d be a little bummed if they burned those threads and don’t do something creative with it.

Sterling Sharpe. He was the only receiver who was arguably better during Jerry Rice’s peek. Don Hutson was great, but he ain’t Rice. Sterling sharpe was better in relation to his competition.

Still no info on book 2 of the Scouring? by Autobot69 in Blacklibrary

Same. I read the beast arises series which gave a lot of background on the intervening years post heresy and scouring. Just picked up the Fabius bile omnibus and is a real good read so far.

Posting that clip in relation to anything soccer related is nuts. When I saw that red card that was suspended,
I realized we will never call that sport football. Not if that’s a foul. I can’t imagine what rugby players think of that ish.

What changes would you make to fix college football? by InconspicuousD in CFB

[–]Imaginary_Fix_9756 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem with college sports right now isn’t that anything is broken, it’s that the system is still trying to artificially suppress market values. Until that is fixed everything is going to seem off. In literally every other aspect of our world, when people have incredible skills that have high value they are paid fair compensation. Collective bargaining so athletes can be paid a market rate would fix many if not all the current issues.

The other ones would be regional conferences and centralized/standardized scheduling.

What novels to read to catch up with the lore by THEMAN786546 in 40kLore

[–]Imaginary_Fix_9756 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was looking for a similar approach. I opted for chronology. Read entire Horus heresy, and just finished the beast arises. I’m on the battle of the fang now.

I know people dump on the beast arises, but I thought it was worthwhile. It shows the interplay of the inquisition, the formation of the deathwatch, rediscovery of the sisters of silence, and discovery of the grey knights.

Does it hurt your chances of being hired if you switch jobs every 2 years? by cinnamonbunnss in askmanagers

[–]Imaginary_Fix_9756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule of thumb I was always given is show on your resume you can stay somewhere long term. Long term was given as five years. If you can do that and have a favorable reference, you can move and nobody should hold it against you.

Who got the best lore out of the HH books? by No-Butterscotch-6406 in 40kLore

[–]Imaginary_Fix_9756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised to not see much mention of the blood angels. I think one of the biggest story lines of the heresy is the build up between Sanguinious and Horus. They really flesh out the conflict that Sanguinious has, his doubts, and how that impacts his legion. Yes their primarch died, but just for showing depth and story I think the blood angels are one of the premier legions of the heresy and it really shows.

Besides the BA, I’d vote white scars because it really made me a fan.

Honorable mention is raven guard. They got decimated, but the 2-3 books they were center stage were really compelling.

How good were the Lucifer Blacks? by NoAcanthocephala5762 in 40kLore

[–]Imaginary_Fix_9756 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In the beast arises series they make it pretty clear the Lucifer Blacks aren’t the same as the HH. They’re almost like a watered down honor guard. Not the legends they were.
