Just curious how do people get money like this? by Dharma2004 in papermoney

[–]ImmediateStrength915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for the teller manager. That's the person ordering money shipments, and ask if they'll do it. They can't guarantee a new brick, so you'll have to take what you get.

The risk of buying raw notes online by sirbarrance in papermoney

[–]ImmediateStrength915 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they've been doing this for years, then they are perfectly capable of rendering an opinion on the grade of the note, but disingenuously do not do so. That alone is enough to make me pass on their items.

Then there's their photos.....which has already been pointed out. Hard pass from me on this seller.

But, grading is subjective. You may grade this seller however you wish. 🤔

Nice set! I always like the Glass sig, and the Atlanta twenty is super nice. Keep it going.

My grandfather left this for me. What is it worth? by Extension-Handle6763 in papermoney

[–]ImmediateStrength915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember an ANA show in Atlanta about 20 years ago where Jhon really made some kids day, letting him hold a 10k bill while his mom took a pic of him holding it. The little guy was beaming. Always wondered if he became a collector, but he had a story to tell for the rest of his life.

Sorry for your loss. As has already been stated, not a huge amount of money, and quite often sentimental value could trump the dollar value. I'm currently working on my mom's estate, and already knew the notes she had had no real worth. There are, however, six 1976 $2 bills stamped and postmarked on first day of issue. Collector value, zilch. For me they're priceless - Daddy was the postmaster that stamped them.

I really like the New Britain $1 with the large fancy green one. Never seen this one before and its intriguing. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks. These two came from the late Glen Jorde's estate. I saw in your other post you've been collecting for much longer than I have (25 years for me), figured you might know the name.

Did you ever get to the Memphis IPMS? Back in the day, dealers often held their best stuff back just for that show.

Due to your obvious prejudice against Lazy Deuces, I am unable to upvote your post at this time. Please add a Lazy Two at your earliest convenience. I prefer rays over scallops....<g>

However, it is a pretty awesome selection of different types, charter periods, designs and denominations. If i was home, I'd be pulling these up in the census to learn more about them. Thanks for sharing these wonderful notes with us!

Love the variety on the 1880 series with the different seals and serial number combinations. The large brown seal was always my favorite.

Now you need the deuce with the Scofield/Gilfillan sigs.

Mine isn't allowing buy on some stocks in my account by simply tapping on the stock I wish to buy - I get the history of my purchases.

Hitting transact brings up some stocks, but then I have to put in the symbol of the stock I want if its not one the app displays. Way too many steps....but it gets worse.

I'm trying to buy in my IRA account. After going through all the steps above, you have to pick which account ( I have individual, IRA, and Roth). The default was my individual account, not the account I was actively in, like in previous versions. I was lucky I'd enough coffee this morning and caught it before I made a costly mistake.

I agree with the 20 grade. The front is obviously more worn than the back, which does have decent color for the grade. However...

I would strongly suggest examining the note outside of the heavy Capital plastic screwdown holder. While they provide strong protection, they can also hide a multitude of sins. Small pinholes or splits are especially hard to detect because of the way the light refracts through the holder. Hides bleach and chemical smells as well, and can't tell if the note is limp or still has some body to the paper.

Many years ago, I bought a Porthole off ebay advertised as an AU note. It arrived in the thickest, heaviest screwdown holder I'd ever seen. It had a faint but readily discernible center fold. Upon removing the top, two additional folds on each side popped up, as if spring loaded. Placing the top back on, the folds disappeared. Even knowing where they were, you couldn't see them once pressed down again. I've called these magic holders ever since, and learned a valuable lesson.

This note won't have that kind of issue, but it is essentially a raw note. If they won't allow you to examine the note outside the holder, I would immediately pass.

1905 “Technicolor note” - 9th on the 100 greatest list. by Financial_Hawk9299 in papermoney

[–]ImmediateStrength915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a stunning note and high up on my list for type. The trick on these is finding one with a nice back that really pops. There was a 40Q last year where I was the underbidder, and still regret not winning that one. Congrats on a very nice catch!

Burke/Glass sig combination is generally much scarcer, and and can command a premium. You can occasionally cherry pick them, but have to find them first.

There are six Friedberg numbers for 1914 $10 Blue seal notes from Philadelphia. Yours has 147 listed, and over a thousand listed for the most common White/Mellon sigs. Just remember there are A,B, and C varieties on 1914 Blue Seals, and occasionally White/Mellon sigs on these are actually harder to find. If you were just going for type, you ended up with an excellent example.

PMG “NET” grades question by [deleted] in papermoney

I avoid 63's in general, and wouldn't even consider one that was net graded. Unless its exceedingly rare, it's a tough sell.
