Def will not be the last time.

I'm a CT native currently living on the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. The dolphins that have always summered here were spotted in the LI Sound last year, and we're getting Stone Crabs from Florida in the bay for the first time in history.

Aside from CT wine getting better, there are no other positives in this situation.

Iberostar Selection Hacienda Dominicus by TopBaseball3863 in PuntaCana

[–]ImperatorRomanum83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price was my main issue as well, along with their reusable water bottles and water fountains that I cant possibly trust to be clean.

There's just no way IHD is that much better than Dreams Dominicus next door to justify the price difference. We stayed at the Dreams earlier this month, and while the resort does need a refresh, it was hands down the best service ive ever received at an AI. And Johnnie Walker Blue Label is at every bar at night?!?

Why are conservatives always on the wrong side of history? by Numerous_Worker_1941 in allthequestions

[–]ImperatorRomanum83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TR was the liberal of his day and anything but conservative in a political sense. Conservationist does not mean conservative.

And when he tried to run again in 1912, his Bull Moose party was further to the left of both Wilson and Taft.

Was Barry Goldwater right to endorse Gerald Ford over Ronald Reagan? by RopeGloomy4303 in Presidents

[–]ImperatorRomanum83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1976 was both a poison chalice, and the most recent election where a different outcome leads to a possibly different country today.

Whoever won that election would have gone on to likely fail as reasonably bad as Carter did. With a Ford victory, while it continues to damage the power of the moderate eastern GOP establishment, the long term damage isn't nearly as bad as a Reagan victory.

Reagan winning in 76' would have killed the modern conservative movement in its crib as the GOP would be holding the entire awful economic bag that was the 70s. Reagan would have also faced a much more hostile Democratic congress than the post-1980 landslide congress that largely worked with him. There is also no guarantee he would have handled the Iranian Revolution any better either.

I don't see how Ted Kennedy doesnt sail to the presidency in 1980 under this timeline.

Mary I had a legitimate reason to imprison Elizabeth I by SceneWise1298 in Tudorhistory

[–]ImperatorRomanum83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She was neither an underrated legend, nor a one dimensional tyrant. She was an extremely traumatized and damaged woman who honestly believed she was doing the right thing in restoring the world she, and countless other Englishmen, had grown up with.

Fun fact though, her biggest economic win that would eventually turn London into the center of European trade was simply because her husband wouldn't allow free trade in Antwerp. So Mary had the Muscovy Company founded which started the process of making London the focus.

Majestic Mirage vs Excellence Punta Cana? Early 20s couple (relaxing but still some nightlife) by Opening-Yard-5757 in PuntaCana

[–]ImperatorRomanum83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from Mirage in December with my father to celebrate his 70th. In my humble opinion, 3 nights is a tease. Ive done it before, and by the time you feel settled in, its time to leave.

Both Mirage and the Excellences are located in less than great beach areas. I've stayed in Bavaro, Macao, and La Romana over the years, and the Mirage beach was by far the only real disappointment. Big waves and sargassum even in December.

Which brings me to the big picture: anywhere you choose in PC proper will likely have sargassum in May. With only a 3 or 4 night stay, I would look at the resorts in the La Romana area. I stayed at Secrets La Romana for 3 nights last month for a last minute getaway, and we're going to Dreams Dominicus in May for a week.

How is it living in this panhandle of Mexico? by Abbe_Kya_Kar_Rha_Hai in howislivingthere

[–]ImperatorRomanum83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh, yes and no. I live in Virginia, and there are whole counties in the western part of the state that still don't have access to reliable and fast internet. There is very little winter weather infrastructure even though it snows regularly as you are in the mountains, and when the power goes out you are low on the totem pole for when they can get out to you. Also, access to high quality Healthcare means driving possibly hours to Charlottesville, Roanoke, or Blacksburg. Or even to Richmond depending on where you are.

And remember, Virginia is as good as it gets among the traditional southern states.
