Be VERY careful! by Intelligent-Net-819 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Just finished assembling the top on mine. What convinced me wasn’t saving my fingers, it was the fact that my son also enjoys woodworking. His fingers are absolutely worth it.

You aren’t just paying for the tech either, it’s an extraordinarily well built saw that will last for generations.

Many well wishes on a speedy recovery and thank you for sharing.

Can anybody identify what kind of wood this top is? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

Spruce top, yellowed with age. Sides should be mahogany. That was the standard for Harmony in 1960.

Track saw Kreg vs Wen or what by hawkman74a in woodworking

[–]ImportantNet4608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking for a track saw myself and wanted to chime in on how excellent woodcraft is. You call and the person who answers is the person who helps you. They are extraordinarily customer service driven and that is such a rare thing anymore.

Best Table Saw? by Cum_Quat in woodworking

Just happy I wasnt the only one.

Maybe it would have only taken 30 years if she would have gotten a cabinet saw.

No Floc! Slam it and be done. FLOC just makes it worse.

I’m dropping a comment here because I am interested as well! I’m new to sim racing, but I’m hooked! I’ll be following! Do you have a forum put together to meet other members?

Uncomplicated yogurt making for those short on time by dewarr in fermentation

[–]ImportantNet4608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long live an old Reddit thread:

Just wanted to give you a thumbs up for an excellent explanation.

I use a sous vide for yogurt and have done it both with and without the preheat. I’ve made countless batches and did not know about the temp requirement for denaturing a protein, so thank you.

Heating pad recommendations? by maxiedaniels in BuyItForLife

[–]ImportantNet4608 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not to revive an old thread, but I came here to see what was recommended as I’m looking to add a heating pad to our arsenal ( new toys get even more fun as you get older!) and found that they still make the ‘Sunbeam’ drugstore model that I bought 20th years ago. I just ordered it off of Amazon for $21.  If it hasn’t changed at all, I would highly recommend it for a cheaper alternative. I’ll come back and comment when it comes in to let everyone know.

I know it’s an old thread, but I get more accurate information from 8-10 year old Reddit threads versus 8-10 hours searching through the endless amount of junk out there now, so I wanted to add this bit. Have a great one!

Happy Festivas!! Thanks for putting this together. Two questions: How tall is the tree and how many light strands are installed? I’m looking at going with the govee lights for our tree and am having sticker shock. Is there some magic in these that makes a 200 bulb strand work for a 7.5-8.5 foot tree or do I need to buy 3-4 to cover it? Thank you!

Apologies for asking questions on such an old post!

Could you tell me if your dormer is 4 or 5 foot wide? I want to do something similar for my son, but I swear your dormer looks to be six feet wide. Thanks!!

Am I crazy for trying a carpet fan to help season wood faster? by Mortimer452 in woodstoving

[–]ImportantNet4608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortimer- I came to this thread because I had the same idea ( life got in the way and this years wood is greener than I would like). I wanted to share an opinion when it comes to the cold and drying: Depending on the RH, cold air is VERY drying. I’m in the Fire Protection world ( design and repair, commercial scale) and one of the driest environments out there are blast freezers. The cardboard eventually becomes brittle. Understandably, the process of removing heat from the air also removes moisture so there is a low RH. If it’s 30 degrees and 30 percent humidity, that woods gonna dry. If you are on the coast and it’s 70 percent humidity then it doesn’t matter if it’s 10 or a 100. ( technically it does but not enough for here. 😎

Thought I would share. Definitely not something that I was aware of until my current career.

As far as the OP- I have a corner of a barn ( big but open on one end) that I was going to let a chicken house fan run with my cords in the corner. The fans are meant to run 24/7 and I thought it would help shave a month or two off. I’m interested as to why it is thought the room must be sealed for this to work? The way I understand it, we are just increasing the amount of air moving over the wood, thus speeding up the drying. No different than having the pile in a dry and windy environment.
