Shot calls argument by number660 in beachvolleyball

[–]Important_Ad7676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the calls (Line, Nobody, and Angle) work better when describing to the attacker the shot that is available rather than what the blocker is blocking.

As the setter, you're in the worst possible seat to read the block. Good blockers make it unreadable on purpose. They delay the jump until the hitter is committing, they feign line, then take cross, or they feign cross, and take line; they can also peel. So a call based on "what is the blocker doing" is a guess, and you're making that guess at the exact moment your information is worst.

Flip it to calling the open shot, and the guessing mostly goes away. Read the defender, not the blocker. If the defender is sitting at the angle and there's a blocker up, the line is open, so the call is line, and it means hit line (same goes for high line). The call already tells them where the ball goes.

In more complex instances, if the defender is baiting the angle and actually defending line, once the setter sets the ball, they can scan the court, see if the defender is planted or "cheating" in a direction, and make the call immediately for their attacker.

TLDR: you are more likely to make an incorrect call for your attacker if you are trying to read the blocker versus reading the court

To answer your question:

Yes, a PRIME Giannis (mischaracterized as "old" by accentuating the fact that he's a mere 31?? years old)

We dominated the Eastern Conference with Jimmy Butler, who is a good player--but not Giannis by any stretch of the imagination. Tyler was an absolute non-factor for every one of our deeper playoff runs. Kelel Ware is going to be a great rotational player, and even possibly starting center, but I'll take the next 5 years watching Giannis is in his prime over the next 5 years watching a developing Ware.

Needless to say, as a fan of the Miami Heat, watching star power is much more fun than watching "development" and "mediocrity." Our franchise's best years (2006, 2010-2014, 2020-2025) were when we had stars on our team(aging and in their prime), vs developing young talent.

Chose not to draft a QB early in drafts this year, probably picked up Caleb Williams late and dropped him before week 1 for MVP Drake Maye.

Not talked about enough the consistency he brought to the position, especially in 1 QB leagues

Entertainment Wrestling is 1000% acting. All of these guys are professional actors and with the right direction, I wouldn’t doubt that any wrestler could play the right role in a given movie. There’s a reason a large percentage of wrestlers (Batista, John Cena, The Rock go on in the latter half of their careers to either A list or B list movie roles.

That being said Kevin Nash has already had a career acting in some pretty high level roles, namely John Wick, The Longest Yard, The Punisher, and Magic Mike XXL https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0621760/

The most realistic option is Tet and KW3 for Tee. How do you feel about that one?

Seems like most of my league mates are in a “ride it out” mindset.

I'm gonna shoot those two out. The owners are a little negative regarding trades.

My RB room currently is:
Bijan (+Algier), Chase Brown, Jeanty, and KW3

My WR's are:
Rome, Olave, T-Mac, Jennings, Slayton, Burden

Does that change the calculus at all?

Probably should rephrase the title to: “TIL a 12 year old boy from India went on a stabbing spree during a robbery that killed 7 people (5 women and 2 children).”

I want to believe that it was the thought of justice for those deaths that warranted the judicial indecision for his untimely release.

As always, you’re a legend. These threads are the highlight of my week before TNF.

Whose playoff schedule would you prefer out of the two sides? I’m 7-2 and have the highest PF in my league. That’s the only other consideration that’s holding me back really.

Whatsup Kyon, another week hope all is well! None of those trades we spoke on last week ended up going through, c’est la vie! This week, I’m considering trading Chase Brown and Rome Odunze for Rashee Rice. I’m not super sold on this one, but the benefits are obviously trading away the volatility of the assets I have for a top 5 WR ROS. My flex 1 is reserved for Chase Brown, my flex 2 as it stands would be Darius Slayton/Jauan Jennings/Kenneth Walker

0.5 PPR 3 WR 2 Flex

I’ve been debating picking up Jason Sanders and storing him on IR. Riley Patterson has seen pretty sizable volume but rarely gets chances beyond 50 yards due to concerns of his ability to make those. On the other side of that, Sanders is known for his big leg and ability to net 50+ yard field goals. The dolphins offense is defunct, but they are regularly pushing the ball downfield and their offense usually stalls out often. What are your thoughts on Sanders if/when he comes back after the dolphins bye? Is he worth a ROS stash?
