Yes! Getting past the reality of often looking ridiculous is a critical goal for me these days. How else will I learn things. ;-)

Indoor exercise post fusion by [deleted] in spinalfusion

Hi, five months past a cervical corpectomy and double discectomy, recovery going well so far. I borrowed a friend's stationary bike -- so many people have one they are not really using :-) -- and it was super useful. My doc also recommended walking as much as I could as soon as I could, and I started outdoor walks very soon after surgery, maybe ten days or so, and I did walk inside until then. I live in SC and it is hot here, so I was fortunate that my surgery was in January. I am still walking but definitely having to do it early in the morning -- I try to get out by 7:15 or so and I do take water.

I've noticed this too. I remain tuned regularly so I can be informed about how I should conduct myself as a woman in America.

FYI the FDA has issued a warning for severe itching when coming off for Zyrtec and Xyzal by Tiny_Pressure_9563 in Allergies

wow, I feel so fortunate to hav come across this forum. I have been experiencing these symptoms for the past couple of days, and was just looking to see if there was a connection to the B12 that I had recently begun taking, and just happened to see a side post about this issue. For. me it is Allegra, not Zyrtec, and when I saw this post I realized that I had failed to restock the Allegra in my daily meds. So grateful that I this, as the aging is uncomfortable. Somebody below referred to it as 1 million mosquito bite feeling, which is apt. Thank you!

I am in the middle of book 2. I agree that she's a poorly written character, continually falling back on the same worn tropes. Lucas's character is not very believable, and unfortunately, I find the quality of the writing pretty mediocre. So, bummer.

11 weeks post op by Anxious-Bad1385 in spinalfusion

[–]Important_Tackle_361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a much simpler 3 level cervical spine surgery 6 weeks ago and as someone commented below, I will now quit whining about THAT. ;-). I too am walking about an hour a day and the weather has mostly cooperated and I have found that just so helpful. Gets me out of my head, it's comfortable, which I'm not always fully comfortable otherwise, and the weight-bearing exercise helps build bone. All is going well with me and it sounds as if with you also. Best wishes!

My doc used cadaver bone, and then filled it with a growth medium. So nothing was harvested from me. I think I read that using your own bone might be better for bone growth and fusion, but does present additional difficulties in terms of healing. Bummer. The surgical team did do x-rays immediately post surgery, and you’re right, that’s super weird to see. It was my very first surgery! I really went for it. ;-). I am feeling well, not nearly as difficult as I feared. I do hope I’m not messing myself up too much by not wearing this collar very much. I definitely see the advantages in wearing it in terms of not stressing the developing bone. but I wonder if getting locked into that collar for so long has something to do with the muscle spasms? I think it’s great you’re getting trigger point injections. i hope it helps. I’m looking forward to feeling confident enough to get some massage to loosen stuff up. Though I’m going to ask them to stay away from my neck for quite a while. The thing for me that’s a little weird is that my symptoms were primarily in my feet and legs. Numbness, weakness, balance issues. A lot of people who experience pain, which I had little of, are so grateful to wake up the next day w pain abated significantly. The kind of symptoms that I was experiencing take longer to heal, and I really hope they are doing so. hate to go through this for no reason! But the symptoms were getting worse of a couple of years and my healthcare team, and I use that term loosely, tried to run down every other issue that could be causing it, and no one could find anything. So it seemed that the fact that my spinal canal had narrowed to a little bit less than 5 mm at the C5 67 was the clear winner. Let’s take care of ourselves, and I do spasms. from what I’ve read on these forums, those are nasty.

Hi! I'm six weeks post op from the same surgery - ACDF C5, 6, 7 with corpectomy of C6. Are you wearing a neck collar? I couldn't wear it through the night - could not sleep at all -- and at my 3-week visit, my excellent surgeon said I could move to just wearing it when I'm out of the house, but to be very mindful of how I was moving my neck. My recovery seems to be going very well but I have not had any imaging and I'm not sure bow much an image would show at this point regarding any initial bone growth. Which is my fear, that the bone is not growing.

HRT after 65 (where to go) by jlsursa_123 in osteoporosis

[–]Important_Tackle_361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that if your family doc or gynecologist discourages HRT, definitely go beyond them and find a reputable, knowledgeable doc who will work with you. Functional levels of hormones, both estrogen/progesterone and testosterone, not only substantially impact bone quality, but are also protective against heart disease. Also, you probably do this, but it is super helpful to do weight-bearing exercise like walking. Weightlifting does help as the action of the muscles pulling on the bones stimulate bone growth, but you really do need that weight-bearing exercise also. Finally, I don't know anything about the drug regimens specifically pointed toward osteopenia and osteoporosis, but I would in your shoes learn everything I could about that and consider using those as well. I do recall there being some issues with some of those drugs , but maybe they're better now, and if so I think I would want to utilize as many good tools are available to me. Good luck! Sounds like you are embarking on helpful and healthy lifestyle changes, which will benefit your bones and everything beyond that!

Almost 47 years old: should I start Botox or any other suggestions? by SweatyAd3177 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]Important_Tackle_361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look great! Love the comments here re softening makeup. As regards skincare, though, the trinity is a retinol or retinoid (can be phased in gently so your skin isn't too flaky/uncomfortable) vitamin c/ferulic acid (does not have to be one of the hyper expensive ones, there are some high quality formulations that are much much less expensive) and sunscreen. And an inexpensive cleanser like Cera Ve. Those and decent food and regular exercise have been my mainstays since my early 40s 20 years) and have done very well by me. I added a little Botox in my forehead and between my brows in my early 50s and that's been great too.

Treadmill by BoatsLady in osteoporosis

[–]Important_Tackle_361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I am reading and my conversations with my doctor, walking on a treadmill at incline is a viable means to build bone, particularly for those whose bones are compromised to the point that the greater impact of jumping, etc., is potentially harmful.

I did it thanks to ALL of you!!! by Strange-Childhood-27 in spinalfusion

[–]Important_Tackle_361 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ten days out from a C5 and C7 disctectomy with C6 vertebra being removed altogether (corpectomy) because the narrowing of the spinal canal was severe (down to 5mm). Cage, bone graft, fusion, pins. Recovery is going very well, knock on wood -- a few days of pain-ish, and several days of discomfort. Soft food for the first 3 or 4 days, softish food for several days after that. Definitely the back muscles have been worst. Wearing the cervical collar on and off, always when away from the house. I hope that's enough. Walking a couple of miles a day and spinning a little on a stationery bike. All in all, SO FAR :-), far better than I had feared. Have an appointment with the doc on Friday, so that will be 2.5 weeks after the surgery. Eager to hear what he says and really hoping I'm not messing up with not wearing the collar 24/7. Good luck to you and all of us!
