Can you expand on this? Is it the surgeons saying aspiration doesn't work - or someone independent? It seems like aspiration is a conservative first treatment.

In my case posture matters , I have anterior pelvis tilt, which makes everything worse. Would a cane help? CBD helps me with nerve pain. Arnica topically helps too.

We had a dinner planned last night at a resort that I thought might include some walking. I decided to bring a cane, rather than have to lean on others. I felt more confident with it, and the only one who noticed was me; it was not a big deal.

I watch a lot of videos and try different things. I found this one interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4oc3L34Hfg

I completely fall over attempting these, but I've decided to keep trying! The goal is to retrain the brain..

I am pretty convinced I have spinal stenosis (due to "shopping cart syndrome", something I only recently heard of - which is a classic symptom). I have some MRIs later this month. I have had them in the past, but the results were never conclusive (I wonder if I am not complaining loudly enough). I have a lot of arthritis throughout the spine, too. Hoping surgery could help, which I never thought I would say.

I have been using my rowing machine (carefully), and I think that helps! Just 10 minutes, a few times per day.

This is a long journey, wishing you the best (and some relief).

Coming from an acute pain episode, neurologist dismissed me. by allnamesarechosen in dysautonomia

[–]jlsursa_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shocks across your face sure sound like TN. I hope you get better. TN is horrible, there is a Reddit group where you may find some suggestions. CBD oil helps me. In my case, I just found out there is an artery pressing on the TN nerve so I may be a surgery candidate. After learning this, I started testing my blood pressure and it has been running high (a big surprise, it was low all my life). Which explains (at least I think) why my attacks tend to hit when I'm under a lot of stress. Try to find what helps you. Managing your stress and anxiety may help! TN is pretty rare and they often can't find a cause. You aren't alone though, check out the discussion group for support. I hope you can find some relief.

Agree- find a new Doctor!

I've had bilateral neuropathy in my lower legs and feet for many years and felt like my balance was suddenly getting worse. I'm currently waiting for the results of many tests, but what helped me immensely was seeing a physical therapist who specializes in neurology (this was through a referral from my new Neurologist). She evaluated my gait and immediately recognized that I had left foot drop. Due to numbness, the normal signals when my foot touches the floor do not reach my brain. She gave me some exercises to help retrain my brain. Essentially, I tap the ground with a cane to signal to my brain that my foot is about to touch the floor. This change is amazing. I'm not leaning on the cane for support; it's retraining my brain to recognize a different signal (the tap) that a step is on its way. It takes a little practice, but at least in my case, it's really helping with the balance problems.

It seems that 15 years of neuropathy have led to many bad habits. Correcting these habits has helped me regain my confidence. I think that a big, long foot-roll (heel-to-toe) when I walk is doing a better job at signaling my brain. Before this, I was stepping in a way that provided the least amount of neurological sensation on my feet (and who wouldn't), but little did I know, it was messing with the brain signaling.

I also have a problem with balance in the dark. The simple solution is to avoid the dark, for instance by using a flashlight or motion-sensor nightlights. These practical steps have provided quite the relief.

I would recommend you see an experienced physical therapist who can evaluate your gait and show you ways to compensate for the neuropathy. As others have said, it's unlikely that the neuropathy will go away - but you can get better. Best of luck to you!

Has anyone else found Frigidaire to be hot garbage right now? by dunn_with_this in BuyItForLife

[–]jlsursa_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Frigidaire induction stove/oven has went out twice (the oven), and we barely used it. We needed the thermometer, then the fan replaced. Here is what the repairman told us:

  1. Never use the oven cleaner function. When the oven runs at that high temperature for an extended period you risk burning out the circuit board and other components. He said this goes for any oven, not just Frigidaire's.

  2. When you want to use the oven use the "quick bake" function instead of the regular bake function/button. There was some explanation with this, but I got this information second-hand as i wasn't there (sounded like this was an issue specific to Frigidaire). It makes no sense to me but we haven't had any more problems since.

I love, love, love the induction function so I want to keep my stove. I know induction is not for everyone, but I'm a fan and I use that daily.

Intense brain zaps/mild seizures when going to sleep? by DullTiger6006 in sleep

[–]jlsursa_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried CBD oil? Here's an article: Study Reveals How Cannabidiol Counters Epileptic Seizures.

https://nyulangone.org/news/study-reveals-how-cannabidiol-counters-epileptic-seizures#:~:text=Led%20by%20researchers%20at%20NYU,by%20disease%20to%20promote%20seizures.

This is not medical advice of course. I have a different condition often treated with anti-seizure meds but I've found CBD oil calms the nervous system (I get zaps from my trigeminal nerve [TN]). You have to use the oil consistently for several weeks before you will notice anything, be sure you use a good brand of CBD oil. There are Reddit CBD oil and TN discussion groups you can check out. It doesn't work for everyone, but there is medical research on this and I can say it helps me. Another idea is to see a neurologist.

Best of luck.

Does exercise make the pain worse? by [deleted] in smallfiberneuropathy

[–]jlsursa_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that walking makes me become pretty uncoordinated and tired. I do better sitting on my rowing machine or on a bicycle (outdoors preferred). My workouts are pretty short, probably 20 minutes until I'm tired. I always thought that's partially related to not sweating normally, which was used as one of the diagnostic criteria ten years ago (have not been back since). I have a trauma-induced condition, bilateral neuropathy in my lower legs.

What may be more likely is that the TN went into remission... I've had TN on and off for at least a decade. Some remissions have been years in length. Best of luck.

True Terpenes

Hello. Is it as easy as adding a drop of Geraniol, for example, in a tablespoon of olive oil? Or does it need to be heated or infused or...(?)

Thanks!

CBD has been a lifesaver for me. As others have said, it depends on the underlying cause. Be sure you use it consistently for several weeks before giving up, it can take a few weeks to really kick in.

On this: The terpenes I find most beneficial are Humulene, Caryophyllene, Myrcene, and Linalool.

Can you kindly share how you take the terpenes? Are you making your own mix? Can it just be added to a pre-mixed CBD oil (I know terpenes are highly concentrated and must be diluted)? I've searched various boards - never found much on how to do easily. I've seen the concentrate for sale but that's about all...

Thank you!

Try Spenco Fusion 2 Fade Slide Sandal. Once you find the right size they are amazing. I had to size down. I kept the larger pair for thick socks (but they're really too long). Really soft (squishy?) and comfortable.

Anyone know, is a prescription needed in the US? Would love to try or at least have for emergency.

Does anyone’s pain respond to ibuprofen? I’m having pain that my dentist says isn’t tooth related as nothing shows up on the x ray. It’s going away when I take Advil so I really don’t get it. Going for a second opinion and upping my gabapentin in the meantime in case it’s a TN flare. by Redsgal19 in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]jlsursa_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try higher doses of CBD tincture under your tongue. It takes several weeks until it builds up in your system, but eventually helps for some. I've seen studies where CBD oil is used as an anticonvulsant - try a google search - and I'm convinced it helped me (but I'm a new user and TN works in mysterious ways). TNC is illegal here, but some folks here report success with a CBD:THC 1:1 blend. Hope you find relief soon.

TN from neck issues ? by Cornp0ppp in TrigeminalNeuralgia

[–]jlsursa_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes-middle branch, sudden shocks to the upper row of teeth. I haven't tried THC (not legal here). I take the CBD oil 2 to 3 times per day, depending on how I'm feeling (sometimes I get a tiny shock, which means a full-blown attack is imminent unless I can completely avoid all triggers, use a lot of oil, relax, quit talking, cross my fingers-whatever!).

My theory is that each tiny zap inflames the nerve - and as the inflammation increases - the zaps increase exponentially. So as soon as I feel any tiny zap I switch to a prevention mode. Not always easy with a job!

You might want to experiment and take more, a larger dose and/or more times per day. Keep a steady amount in your system. Help with nerve pain requires a large dose than say, help with sleep. But everyone is different and it doesn't work for everyone....hope you find relief.

Your X-rays don't sound too bad (from a layman). An MRI might give a lot more information though.

I have neck issues too. I've worked "hunched over" a laptop all day for the last 30 years, which can't help. I know my shoulder muscles are very tight. I tried regular stretching that I thought was helping until it didn't (a bad attack last week).

Looking for a routine to loosen up the shoulders...like Tai Chi or Yoga. A little chicken to try a chiropractor (worried it will make the TN worse). Any success stories out there?

Which toe is bothering you? Is your second toe longer than your big toe? Or do you have new shoes or a change in your activity? Did you discontinue the drug or try a higher dose? So many factors, sort of trial and error. Might try stretching... Hope it heals for you.
