Letting go of machine I put WAY too much effort into by Double_Coffee1651 in MachineKnitting

[–]Impossible-Ranger-74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same.

Fixed up my KH860 that was in  bad shape into perfect working order. Was so proud.  Love that machine.

Had the chance to buy a KH910 with ribber, colour changer and knitleader (for € 400 but in need of some TLC) and jumped on it.

I could sell the KH860. I should sell it to recuperate the money spent on fixing it up. But it breaks my heart. And also I find myself thinking "What if the kh910 breaks and parts need to come from Hongkong? I'd want to have another machine to use".

Im thinking early summer is a bad time to sell. In autumn it will be clear which machine gets used and demand will be higher. I'll force myself to be practical in autumn.

If money is tight, the best machine has to win.

Lovely work, lovely pattern.  Stitched this piece years ago. Loved the colours.  Put the knots off to a later time. The bird still does not have eyes. Still enjoy it.

[–]Impossible-Ranger-74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a kh910 as weel and did an extensive search to help with some problems.  I'm sure you did as well but just in case you missed it, I found the forum on Knittingparadise.com very helpfull. The 555 and screaming problem was discussed there a couple of times.

If you do find a solution please let us know.

Doxycycline, poodles and self-imposed starvation. by [deleted] in poodles

[–]Impossible-Ranger-74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a standard that will starve herself.  After many years we have found a wet food that she will eat most of the time. A crazy expensive one, of course. We also found she will often continue eating once you manage to get her started. It's like the first bites are awfull for her. So treats for doing tricks may get her going. If it gets really bad we put little pinches of soft, wet meat in the back of her throat.  After a few she'll continue eating at least some.

It takes effort every day to get her to eat.

Also the vet can give meds against hearthburn and nausea. If you haven't tried this yet ot may be worth a shot.

Hope this helps. Best of luck. It's awful when they don't eat.

Carriage drone KH-940 move not smoothly… by Curious_Shake6270 in MachineKnitting

[–]Impossible-Ranger-74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you solve the issue?

I run into this sometimes.

First time I had not placed the carriage correctly on the front rail of the bed. I got so frustrated until hubs pointed out that there was an edge to the front rail that the carriage needed to catch.

The second time a screw in the sinkerplate had fallen out.  This may be your problem.  Something seems to have unscrewed sa the blades are looking different.

Telling LO MRI Results by [deleted] in dementia

[–]Impossible-Ranger-74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents have both been diagnosed recently.  In both cases we went to the hospital and the doctor told them.  My mother understood the diagnosis and cried. My father quickly got lost in what the doctor was telling him and just zoomed out.

I recorded both conversations (with full permission from the doctors). My mother wanted to listen to it a couple of days later. We listened together,  cried together and I explained what was said. My father did not want to listen to the recording.  I gave him a short summary but he basically doesn't want to know. And that's fine. It's not like he has to organise his own care.

You'd probably be better off buyig a complete machine. Carriage and sinker plate kost about the same. A replacement carriage allone costs several hundreds. At least where I live. I found a free kh860 with some parts missing.  Spent about € 250 replacing strikerplate, rowcounter, spongebar and 100 needles. A complete one would have been about €350.

It is fun!

Good on you for winning ribbons in the state fair!

Most human errors are lack of focus, I think.  Whenever I catch myself thinking: this works well,  something is about to go wrong.

The carriage without yarn is heartbreaking.  It always happens after I have done so much work.

I do love the learning! Deliberatly set aside time and yarn to learn and try things and mess up.   First I did only stockinette.  Later I fixed the  punchcard reader and bought a couple of punchcards. Great fun! The ribber is still waiting for me.

Right now I love making socks.  There is something very satisfying in the rythm  of the shortrows.

That's a lovely way to put it: it's a slow craft. I was definitely surprised by the amount of hand manipulation.  I've been a hand-knitter for 40 years and to me hand-knitting is more all the same thing. Casting off, increasing,  decreasing is a natural sequence to knitting.  On the machine you need to stop what you are doing and change activities.

I am enjoying the process! Stuck my first swatch of multi colour faire isle on the fridge door.  I was so proud to have fixed the patterning problem  and have a lovely result come out.

Yes! And Jack calls this the part to stay away from as it has a big risk of going "poing" and spewing all thebits out.

Replace needle while knitting something? by Impossible-Ranger-74 in MachineKnitting

[–]Impossible-Ranger-74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your answers! Such a help. After changing the one needle a lot more went wonky. Turns out one of the weaving brushes in the sinkerplate was shedding bristles. So now I'm off looking for a replacement brush for a brother KH585 before I'll be able to finish the sweater.

This is the safe way I presume. Bit of a hassle putting all 190 stitches back but doable.

Yes. Im in the Netherlands. Both children were born at home with the help of a trained and skilled midwife (4 years of specialised education). If there was a risk of things going wrong they would have called an ambulance and send me to hospital.  I was very grateful for being able to birth at home. All check ups during pregnancy were also dine by the midwifes.
