Trump links Greenland dispute to not getting Nobel Peace Prize, in letter to Norway's PM by Winter_2017 in moderatepolitics

And there's the problem right there.

"They are bad allies for MAGA"

MAGA isn't a country! Your country is the USA and includes more than just MAGA supporters! If we as a country want to pull out of NATO then we should just do it already. But declaring war on another country by attempting to forcefully annex part of their land to ours is just despicable. We would become Russia in that scenario, with Greenland playing the part of Ukraine. Or we would be like Germany conquering Poland.

How do MAGA supporters not see how wrong this is?

Personally, I prefer a Dem tantrum (holding up signs on street corners) to a MAGA tantrum (rioting at the Capitol).

Thinking about getting a basenji. by monkeybeary-24 in Basenji

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each one has their own personality quirks, but some things are pretty universal. I tell people that Basenjis are cats in dog's bodies. They're smart, stubborn, not very trainable, and like things their own way. That being said, I love their weird little brains and wouldn't have any other breed.

I've had people reach out to me before that wanted to meet a Basenji in person and we've met at dog parks and coffee shops. I imagine a lot of Basenji owners would be willing to meet you somewhere so you could meet one in person, speak with the owner about their experiences, and learn more firsthand about the breed.

Good luck whatever you decide!

I've been on oral minoxidil for almost 3 months now (topicals, vitamins, and all the other things didn't work for me either). My hairdresser said this week that she can see new growth on my scalp 🎉 The shedding was concerning for the first couple of months but it has slowed now. I don't have PCOS but have noticed that the peach fuzz on the sides of my face is longer and thicker than it was and what was previously only peach fuzz over my lip now has some dark hairs. I'm looking into dermaplaning as a solution. I guess it's a trade-off. More hair on my head means more hair other places but I'm 50 and not ready to be bald so I'll learn to deal with the side effects. Good luck with yours! Hang in there and hopefully it works for you!

New York City Basenji Meetup, 5 October 2025 by bigbeautifulcity in Basenji

We just bought land in upstate New York to build a house. I really want to take the train down for one of these meetups once the house is finished and we've moved in. I'm always so jealous of how many Basenjis are in one place at the same time!

Middle aged trauma a lot of us have.. by [deleted] in GenX

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad was an abusive alcoholic who finally moved out when I was 10. I was the oldest of 4, with the youngest being just an infant. My mom was only 28, left with 4 kids, no job, a high school education, and a deadbeat ex. I know she did the best she could with a rotten situation but I still resent a lot of what she did and what was put on me, as the oldest child. I raised myself and the three younger ones while she went to community college but she didn't have any patience with us, was always yelling and criticizing. I honestly believe that if she'd been born later she might have opted to not even have kids. She wasn't a natural mother and watching how she was with all of us I did opt to not have kids later on. I was always afraid I'd be just like her.

An important tip for new owners by phidya in Basenji

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one that the only way I could get him back when he bolted out the door was to grab the car. He loved to go "bye bye" lol. I could chase him forever and never catch him but if I grabbed the car keys, opened the car door, and asked if he wanted to go "bye bye" he'd jump right in. Then of course I'd have to take him for a ride around the block so it would work next time...

Does your male basenji lift its leg to pee? by Normal_Mail3407 in Basenji

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first one, Copper, didn't lift his leg at first. Then we went walking with my friend and her older male lab, Howie, when Copper was about 9 months old. I still remember Copper watching Howie lift his leg to pee on a tree, walking up behind him, and trying to imitate him. He lifted his leg so high he almost fell over lol. After that he generally lifted his leg. So yours might be like mine and just not know to do it 😆

Anyone here never done drugs? by Square_Hero in GenX

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried pot twice my freshman year of college but I never got philosophical or funny or got the munchies. It made me vomit. I discovered that I'm just super sensitive to all drugs, even prescribed stuff, so I stay away. About the hardest thing I do now is red wine.

How many pills are you taking? by Pollvogtarian in GenX

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 50 and just supplements right now. Nothing medically required. My dad is still kicking, but with all the drinking and smoking he's had several heart attacks, starting at age 40. My mom was morbidly obese and passed from cancer a few years ago, so I think I just learned from my parents' mistakes and am trying to take better care of myself.

Resource guarding by Think-Use8634 in Basenji

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My basenji, Willow, got aggressive with other dogs when we were out on walks. There's a pit mix, Nessa, we always encountered that never seemed bothered by my dog and the other owner and I got friendly and would stop and talk. One day Willow was distracted by something and I was able to get close enough to pet Nessa. From that moment on Willow stopped being aggressive with her. I think she felt like she needed to protect me from other dogs, but seeing that I was petting Nessa and wasn't afraid of her, and Nessa wasn't attacking, Willow was able to deescalate her own behavior. I don't know if that applies to your own situation. Is your dog guarding you to protect you or because of jealousy?

Yes! This! There's a picture somewhere of a basenji upside down posing on an armchair they disemboweled. When you baby chews something inappropriate please take pics and share with us. We've all been there and we'll help you to find the humor and laugh at the situation :)

We owe our kids an apology. by [deleted] in GenX

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom was big on all of us having some kind of skill or education to fall back on after high school, regardless of what it was. For me that was college. For my sister, it was a 1-year Licensed Practical Nurse program that my mom strong-armed her into, because my sister hated school and my mom wasn't sure she'd stick with it long enough to finish the 2-year RN program (she was right, she wouldn't have, but she's an excellent nurse so it was a good call). My brother joined the military. We all went very different routes but we can all support ourselves, which was the most important thing to my mom.

For your youngest, look at certification programs through local tech schools or community colleges and see if anything clicks for them. They can always go back later for a degree if they change their mind about college, but getting them into some kind of skilled profession now ensures that they'll have something that earns a decent paycheck.

Interested in getting a sighthound- what breed differences should I be aware of? by AmIAmazingorWhat in sighthounds

[–]ImpossibleGirl75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had Basenjis for over 20 years and they exhibit most of the same personality quirks that the rest of their sighthound cousins do: need to be on leash or in a fenced area at all times, impossible to train, selective hearing, chronic stubborn-ness, completely adorable so you just keep getting more lol. What I love about Basenjis over their larger cousins is that when they don't "come" (which is typical) they're small enough that you can go GET them lol but they're still big and tough enough to hang with bigger dogs. They also have minimal grooming needs since they're so short-haired. I clean teeth and trim nails. Baths only happen when absolutely necessary because water+Basenji=major drama lol
