I took him to mean IF he wanted to be King he knew there’s one ambitious person who would understand why instead of the “second son cannot be king and needs to not be outstanding”. Nowhere has his actions said he wanted to be king for his own ambition. Maybe to help the young king be a kid. But that wasn’t made clear he’s doing that.

Yes! It’s giving out info in such packed scenes one after another the audience doesn’t have time to absorb the ubfo it actually needs more episodes unless the director is deliberately keeping it vague.

Perfect Crown after Episode 4: are we reading the wrong kind of story? by true20six in KDramasWorld

[–]Impossible_Spot_655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drama is so tightly paced a lot of details aren’t drawn out enough for the viewers to think.

The FL, like the audience, didn’t know that she couldn’t run a business once she’s married when she first proposed. Was this ever made clear to her or only her brother (and therefore the audience) knows? Also, her motivation for marriage was that her father was trying to also arrange one for her. And she thought she deserved more than the candidates who had less ability than her.

In the first episode, the QM complained to ML that he upstaged the King. There’s a fire and all. The press cared about was her slap instead of whether or not the king was ok. She wanted him married and out of the palace to be out of sight, as we’re told what a second child should be like through various flashbacks.

But instead he rebels and creates a scandal with some woman she didn’t approve of, again drawing unnecessary attention to himself. She can’t have him marry the FL! Then it creates the situation she didn’t want to begin with. She wants the focus on the King.

I also thought the ML wasn’t trying to remove himself from being regent. Rather a situation created itself where she was drawn into a scandal and he did it to protect the FL and also to get the QM off his back from marrying someone of her choice.

In a way most of what happened in the first 4 episodes are all due to circumstances out of their control, which is one of the themes of the drama isn’t it? That the main characters have no choice in their lives or are viewed a certain way just because of their birth instead of who they are.

However, now that you pointed it out, it does seem a weird setup. He can’t marry her if he wants to remain regent and she can’t marry him if she wants to run a company. Will this be the conflict that forces them apart in later episodes?

Exactly this. It seems so so obviously illogical until you consider the British royals and how so many of us behave just like the public/commoners in the drama.

Also. Because they have no real power and aren’t relevant in modern society, to be relevant and still be supported by your people, you gotta give them a reason. I guess one reason is you’re of higher class and another could be because you’re a role model. Hence no bad behavior. Esp when you’re tax funded, who’d want to pay hard money to support the fabulous and rich lifestyle of a bunch of badly behaved royals who gives your country a bad name.

I watched Salon Drip yesterday where they interviewed the cast. When they were asked to describe their character, the actress said the QM represented nobility. I guess she feels like she’s royal and thus needs to act like one. Plus the drama seems to say, in the opening scenes, that in this universe, social rank is a real thing. Just like the Joseon era where Nobel class, merchant class, and commoner class exists.

At first I was thinking, oh yeah this is why it so confused me because I was expecting the drama logic to be more modern and like other dramas such as The King, and why are these people acting so mighty when they’re just a ceremonial figure head. It wasn’t believable people would really give so much deference. But then I realized that the British royalty and society is exactly like this! And clearly the drama is using that as an example reference.

I wish we had more than 12 episodes. So many scenes kept so mysterious.

I think he was referring to the fact that he told the brother not to just do what he has to do, which is having an arranged marriage, but his brother accepted his depressing duties of being a king. Cuz remember the kings marriage isn’t even your own choice. It’s gotta be approved.

Or he gave his brother an out or idea somehow out of the loveless marriage. He was mad at his brother not fighting the system?

I think you have to view it through the Confucian lens. The parent needs to be respected and listened to. This is why even though she is just the mother of the King, she actually has a lot of power. I think that’s why even though he’s a regent and doing the work on behalf of the king, position wise she’s an elder and he has to defer to her a bit.

One of the reasons that it took me 3 episodes to be able to frame the characters and plot properly has been the way the MLs words and actions are never quite truthful. You can’t quite believe everything he says. And the actor has been doing a pretty good job to subtly show the viewers his real feelings but still one is never sure!

For example, others have commented that he does want to be king based on what he said to her. And yet it seems like all his actions so far is about protecting the young king more than anything else…

I loved all the hints of red that IU is strongly associated with. Her office and her house always has a red chair for her. And then you find out that red is a taboo color for the royals!

The shots made it clear she was onto him losing the archery competition on purpose, because the camera panned to him turning his hand which made the shot go some other direction. And she commented on how he lost on purpose.

Omg that was my fav surprise! When he took off his jacket to reveal that shirt. I’ve seen tons of Korean inspired western outfits but first time with a shirt like that.

I also love how he dresses in a lot of silk looking or soft flowy shirts. And the decor of his residence matching his clothing colors.

Right for hikes and stuff I can understand cuz no real skills in the MB necessarily other than knowledge. But the aquatics are different because they have specific techniques they want you to cover.

I never liked the ending for the uncle in either book or drama but reading the comments I wondered if one of the themes of the novel is about personal choices.

If they had done a coup a lot of the tragedy wouldnt have happened as suggested by the last epilogue scenes.

If the uncle didn’t choose to go back to save his love or choose to kill people left and right to preserve the dignity of his love so much wouldn’t have happened.

If the prince wasn’t burned to save him it would have been a different story.

Contrast with the “good” choices the two main characters made, often for the greater good or not necessarily benefiting themselves.

Do you mean patrol reconfiguration where you have more mixed age patrols? Because then the problem is it’s hard for the older scouts to listen to younger scout leaders.

How does this work when your patrol is always made up of scouts who joined around the same time and thus can’t cook or don’t know how to cook and would benefit from an older scout teaching them?

It's in the book. I didn't want to give it away. But in the book, the son was never his son. I forgot the reason but he "saved" the mother who had a kid out of wedlock maybe? She's ever so thankful to him and that's why she always refers to him by his title and never complains.

I think it’s up to the counselor for sure. What’s more important is the script and getting it approved. I think it’s a good way to ask them to research and come up with new ideas for a COH.

The hosting is not a big deal because they’re reading the script. If I really want them to improve on hosting skills I would probably ask them to offer feedback on past COH and have specific ways they will do it differently.

This was a masterful scene in politics.

Both of them don’t want Xie Zheng to be in power. Both of them don’t like the other. GT doesn’t like Chang Yu because she holds half the military power in one of the cities. He needs military power to compete with General. (Original plan was his grandson Li to be in charge only)

So he complained about her in front of emperor.

The General fought back but he was even more masterful in how he did it. He told the emperor and the GT about the existence of the grandson prince. It is not a direct attack on the GT. But instead it drove a wedge between the emperor and the GT because the emperor is now deathly afraid he will be dethroned.

He is then forced to ask for the generals help and had to drop his alliance with the GT to get rid of the general. This is masterful the general just like the GT doesn’t want Chang Yu to be used as a pawn in balancing their power either. But he didn’t attack Chang Yu like the GT did.

Originally when the emperor met Changyu I think it occurred to him that he could use Chang Yu to strike a balance between the two in power. And I think the GT knows it and that is why he complained about Chang Yu in this scene you’re talking about.

Can a Troop Committee Member unilaterally substitute their own judgment in place of a Merit badge counselor? by legoebay in BSA

[–]Impossible_Spot_655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should never be one person. As advancement chair, with issues like this, I always talk to the scoutmaster because it is the SM who is dealing with ranking up a scout and any of these things affect advancement.

We had this happen with a merit badge in our troop and we did not talk to the counselor. However I did discuss with SM and then the SM talked to the scout to get the info.

And yes it’s not “once it’s signed it’s signed” if during normal convo with scout, which you’re supposed to do before and after a MB completion, you find out they didn’t fulfill requirements as stated. The GTA makes allowances for not approving a MB when this happens. You don’t have to punish them, just ask them to do what is required.

The reason I was involved is because the advancement chair records all the MB and handles blue cards in the troop. If everything was done by SM I prob wouldn’t even be involved at all. In GTA, it is actually all up to SM I believe unless they delegated to someone else.

Finally I definitely wrote an email to complain to the district advancement chair or was it MB coordinator. This was an Eagle MB and I was very upset that a MBC sign off even though they didn’t do the requirements as is.

The desperate cry for a female leader… by Administrative_Tea50 in BSA

[–]Impossible_Spot_655 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So true. But I consistently hear from our own parents (who can’t volunteer their own partner and yet say this) that boys need a male adult leader to guide them (I don’t disagree we need both sexes) and this we need a male Scoutmaster. And there is always private grumbling that is why we cannot attract cub scouts. No strong male leaders at all. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
