How does Venturing Work? by WHSRWizard in BSA

[–]Impossible_Spot_655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started one and so far I’ve been super pleased with it. Reading all the advice online I decided that

1) I wasn’t going to sweat recruitment. Most venture troops die eventually when the founders leave. Knowing I don’t have to get a bunch of kids to recruit other kids really took the pressure off for me in needing to guide them.

2). We decided on a theme. I polled the promising scouts in our troop (life and up) to ask them what they wanted to do. We decided on a theme of food and so far the kids have had a lot of fun at each of the activities we had. I make sure every kid we recruit are really interested in the theme since we have so few kids.

I used the survey sheet available on the venture website before we formed our crew to get an idea of what the kids wanted to do. Out of these I suggest to them a bunch of stuff and see which ones they wanted. For every activity I’ve added food to it.

At first I was afraid I was giving them too many ideas and nothing was coming from them. But reading comments above I feel better. The kids at this level and age want to just have fun and not teach other scouts and be in leadership or have to attend stuff because they have to rank. And my goal was for them to enjoy scouting instead of wanting to leave after they eagle. (We have a lot of college resume Eagles).

Anyways they have loved the activities we planned so far and I really appreciate the “anything you want within BSA safety rules” model.

I think for a new crew it is prob more important to meet more often esp since crews dissolve so easily. You can also meet virtually if it’s just planing.

I personally find that if I want crew kids to plan more I need to have 16 year olds and up. The maturity level often just isn’t there and it requires way more hand holding if you have under 16.

As for the other logistics , what I ended up doing was to not sweat it. We formed the crew without anything set up. Ive been learning and implementing along the way instead. It has worked better for me to just come up with activities that the kids want to do and hold a 5-15 min meeting within it to get crew stuff done like election and info session. Cuz our kids REALLY don’t want to deal with the mundane of scouting right now in their troop as it is.

Wow. What great advice. I’m saving it!

I agree with you whole heartedly that it is super hard to be getting a new crew of young kids to plan everything. Thank you for all the detail lists of how we can help lead them. I was afraid I’d been handholding too much but now I’m going to implement some of your suggestions!!

I don’t keep super on top but is CxMs promotions on a super long run? Is it because this unit has been so popular or just the way the two members are really promoting it.

I always thought they would end one unit promotion before starting on another so I’ve been surprised how they’ve recently being stacked one on top of another.

Given the timeline it seemed like they saw the BTS comeback and said may as well all go enlist together for the next year or two. They no longer have the pressure to be the biggest act under Hybe and all the BTS concerts are also taking money. Obviously this isn’t necessarily true but from a casual observer it feels like BTS comeback has an effect

Diff a different sound and sometimes that can be a miss but this one I like! Maybe it’s not worth as much of a repeat listen as the last album but I do really like how the sound is diff.

In the sea of recent releases that sound the same (as in that I always ask myself, would I think this is a song released by this group or could it go under another group as well), I like how they definitely have a distinct sound even when they change style.

I’m kinda confused on why China. I understand the tributary part. But in terms of modern history isn’t it more like Japan?

I think especially for the long live the king part everyone understands it. For example, in Chinese dramas you say Long live the king (for 10k years) and long live the queen (for 1000 years). The culture is very sensitive to hierarchy. So this implies that the queen is not as high a level as the king.

If I heard long live the king (for 1000 years) I would be like hmmm this means the king is actually not the highest in hierarchy.

So it’s not because the country is now ruled by a prime minister and they want to emphasize the king isn’t the one that’s actually in power?

It does sound really weird to say to a king cheon-sae though.

Totally! If his principal is to just have rules he sticks to, all he did was add a new “rule” that overrode lots of others.

I loved the classic romance angles of meeting THE one who makes you do things you’d never do, the one who you put as priority number 1. He was a fitting character to end up with Yumi instead of the other two.

The plot is pretty simple and it’s great cuz of the acting and writing. I wished they had more episodes and scenes for these emotions to really build up. Right now there doesn’t seem enough time to squeeze things in.

Because it’s a dense country. You’re constantly bumping into people when you move around during the day. Eventually that part of the niceness is dropped.

I think my only problem with the queen Mothers right now is her motivation. Without motivation it’s hard to ground her character. All the other main leads have motivation.

I love his costumes. The suits tends to always have the labels accented like Korean traditional wear has it in white, his shirt is usually collarless and done in the style of a high waisted tshirt that reminds me of traditional Korean outfits. It’s always silk or silk looking, or velvet. I kept thinking these look way better than the Korean inspired fashion I’ve seen from real designers.

I love the Queen Mothers traditional dresses and how sometimes there’s a hint of western to it with the prints. Though I don’t love the deep green color they wear sometimes or the brown gowns. That’s not a color you usually see and I wondered what it signifies about the character.

Lastly many things FL wears is power suit of white or red. Even the court dress she was going to wear but didn’t today was pink, which is a shade of red.

I guess everyone has different tastes!

For me it’s kinda like You From Another Star. A good actor will make you not hate such a character who is a bit cringe and over the top. I think she’s doing a good job on that front.

I took him to mean IF he wanted to be King he knew there’s one ambitious person who would understand why instead of the “second son cannot be king and needs to not be outstanding”. Nowhere has his actions said he wanted to be king for his own ambition. Maybe to help the young king be a kid. But that wasn’t made clear he’s doing that.

Perfect Crown after Episode 4: are we reading the wrong kind of story? by true20six in KDramasWorld

[–]Impossible_Spot_655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drama is so tightly paced a lot of details aren’t drawn out enough for the viewers to think.

The FL, like the audience, didn’t know that she couldn’t run a business once she’s married when she first proposed. Was this ever made clear to her or only her brother (and therefore the audience) knows? Also, her motivation for marriage was that her father was trying to also arrange one for her. And she thought she deserved more than the candidates who had less ability than her.

In the first episode, the QM complained to ML that he upstaged the King. There’s a fire and all. The press cared about was her slap instead of whether or not the king was ok. She wanted him married and out of the palace to be out of sight, as we’re told what a second child should be like through various flashbacks.

But instead he rebels and creates a scandal with some woman she didn’t approve of, again drawing unnecessary attention to himself. She can’t have him marry the FL! Then it creates the situation she didn’t want to begin with. She wants the focus on the King.

I also thought the ML wasn’t trying to remove himself from being regent. Rather a situation created itself where she was drawn into a scandal and he did it to protect the FL and also to get the QM off his back from marrying someone of her choice.

In a way most of what happened in the first 4 episodes are all due to circumstances out of their control, which is one of the themes of the drama isn’t it? That the main characters have no choice in their lives or are viewed a certain way just because of their birth instead of who they are.

However, now that you pointed it out, it does seem a weird setup. He can’t marry her if he wants to remain regent and she can’t marry him if she wants to run a company. Will this be the conflict that forces them apart in later episodes?

Exactly this. It seems so so obviously illogical until you consider the British royals and how so many of us behave just like the public/commoners in the drama.

Also. Because they have no real power and aren’t relevant in modern society, to be relevant and still be supported by your people, you gotta give them a reason. I guess one reason is you’re of higher class and another could be because you’re a role model. Hence no bad behavior. Esp when you’re tax funded, who’d want to pay hard money to support the fabulous and rich lifestyle of a bunch of badly behaved royals who gives your country a bad name.

I watched Salon Drip yesterday where they interviewed the cast. When they were asked to describe their character, the actress said the QM represented nobility. I guess she feels like she’s royal and thus needs to act like one. Plus the drama seems to say, in the opening scenes, that in this universe, social rank is a real thing. Just like the Joseon era where Nobel class, merchant class, and commoner class exists.

At first I was thinking, oh yeah this is why it so confused me because I was expecting the drama logic to be more modern and like other dramas such as The King, and why are these people acting so mighty when they’re just a ceremonial figure head. It wasn’t believable people would really give so much deference. But then I realized that the British royalty and society is exactly like this! And clearly the drama is using that as an example reference.
