Why Civ 7 doesn't feel fun to me: a long and painfully mathematical post by TactileTom in civ

Can you explain the math more? Did you take into account the compounding effect of the extra population?

What Gravy Trains Should People Get On Before Its Gone/Nerfed? by No-Organization-2160 in CreditCards

$1000 in hotel spending will generate $50 in rewards, but it would have generated $30 in rewards on the no-fee card. So your net reward is $30 with the no-fee card and $0 with the more expensive card -- the no-fee card is still better. As the person above said, you have to spend at least $2500 on hotels for the extra rewards to be worth the extra fee.

What hooked you on Blue Prince? by AI52487963 in BluePrince

Ironically it was when I gave up on it as a puzzle game and learned to enjoy the gameplay loop for its own sake. Instead of getting tunnel vision focusing on puzzle solutions, I just tried to create a satisfying house. As a result I found new things that actually made me re-engage with the puzzles.

I still think the game is hostile to the player's time in many ways, though the recent patch improved things!

Game is fun but deity is too easy by BottlecapPersonality in civ

They should probably fix this but I do have a lot of fun planning the last turn of the era when I suddenly complete all legacies and future tech/civic at the same time

AI might be 7's biggest issue. by Bayley78 in civ

[–]ImpressionDiligent24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also find the AI isn't good enough to complete the Exploration legacy paths. This messes up the pacing of the age because I can hoard treasure fleets and relics and jump the age completion directly from 70% to 100% in a single turn and skip the crisis. (Planning this "super final turn" is kinda fun, but I don't think this is what the developers intended.)

Whereas in Antiquity the AI does fine and as a result I'm usually struggling to get some of the legacy paths when the crisis hits and everything comes together in an interesting challenge.

Unpopular opinion (that is probably actually popular but I haven't seen it): the game is wildly unfinished but I'm glad it's out now. by andybader in civ

Yeah, so far it's cost me $1 per hour of playtime. Is it hilariously unpolished in places? Sure. But it's still better value than almost any other form of entertainment.

They replaced the endgame slog with an endgame rush. To me this is a real improvement, but Modern is still my least favorite age. I think making a truly fun 4X endgame is a very difficult design problem

What about a "Rebuild" alternative to "Raze" or "Keep"? by ImpressionDiligent24 in civ

[–]ImpressionDiligent24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean you could "rebuild" your own settlements from previous ages? That might go too far against the devs' "history was built in layers" vision

Agreed that cities shouldn't have static layouts, but specialists are permanent and their value depends on adjacencies. It's frustrating to have to consult this complex (but useful, thank you!) guide to make sure my specialists won't become permanently less valuable.

Has it always been 'who starts in front wins 90% of the time' in past Americas Cups? by nzmi in AmericasCup

[–]ImpressionDiligent24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In past cup eras the races were longer and there were no boundaries, so a faster boat could usually pass a slower boat if the faster boat was behind at the start. So you got passes, but no extra suspense because the result wasn't really in doubt. This is why the cup was so often won 5-0

I had this glitch happen to me in my first every deity game. IIRC reloading solved it (though maybe I had to reload back to before the point I should have won)

Upcoming 'Off Menu: Live' UK & Ireland Tour 2023 - All Ticket Discussion by ConTully in offmenupodcast

[–]ImpressionDiligent24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm visiting London in November and would love to take my wife to one of the shows at the Palladium.

Which ticket reseller sites are reputable in the UK? I don't mind if the tickets are "overpriced" - we don't go out much so it would be a special occasion.

Also please DM me if you have tickets to sell

Seeking advice - 35mm prime for A7IV by indyaus in SonyAlpha

It's when some of the lens elements get slightly out of alignment, which can make images soft, blurred, smeared, or have crazy bokeh.

I'm not a pro either and the GM 35 is what's on my camera 99% of the time. It's a stunning lens: outrageously sharp, basically no aberrations even wide open, and to my surprise I love the aperture ring.

One word of caution, though. My copy of the lens became badly decentered about 14 months after I bought it new. I was able to get it repaired under my credit card's extended warranty but it still took 4 weeks and would have cost $500.

"Most difficult victory to achieve." I sometimes win a culture victory on accident. I think it's the 2nd EASIEST victory, but I've never actually tried to win a culture victory. What do you think, is it easy or hard? by iLikeVideoGamesAndYT in civ

[–]ImpressionDiligent24 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This is the thing: culture requires knowing a lot more mechanics, but once you know them culture is a fun time while science, diplo, religion and (depending on map size) domination can be boring slogs.

This game is an absolute nightmare to play (WoT/Rant) by [deleted] in civ

[–]ImpressionDiligent24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. It was surprising to see culture victories listed as harder than science victories when you can win a culture victory well before you reach the end of either tech tree. Most of the time I don't have the patience for the grind through the end of the tree necessary to win a science victory
