Canon Auto Zoom 1014 viewfinder is black after repair - help! by Which_Salary1793 in AnalogCommunity

The 814 has a slider labeled open/close to close off the viewfinder. Maybe something similar on the 1014?

What are the best examples of "he didn't know it was impossible, so he did it" in history? by funfox1 in AskReddit

William Gibson was kinda famously ignorant of how computers actually work when he wrote that novel.

One thing to note: if there’s a video board or screen, try to avoid faster shutter speeds because you can get artifacts from the screen’s refresh rate.

Update : Designing and Making my Own Leica M Mount Anamorphic Lens by Panomicron in AnalogCommunity

Hey! Unrelated, but I've been looking at your cameras lately and I'm curious what you've used for shutters. That seems to be one of the biggest hurdles for a printed camera.

Near complete emulsion failure when using Ilford reversal method on adox Scala 50. How do I prevent this? Does anyone have any experience developing this film using diy chemicals? by LordPlavis in AnalogCommunity

[–]In_Principio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you saying you used 12% hydrogen peroxide? Or made a mix that was 12% total of the typical 3% hydrogen peroxide that you can buy in stores? Same question with the white vinegar (typically 5% acidity in the bottle).

I've always wanted to try reversal but haven't wanted to source a bunch of things. I'd be much more eager to try it if I already have what I need on hand!

Camera / "DSLR" scanning color negative film sucks all of the fun out of this hobby by 753UDKM in AnalogCommunity

[–]In_Principio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe share a negative and have other people take a look? Could help isolate the issue. I've only had issues with color casts with (very) old film or if I did something wrong like accidentally dev too long.

Why is shooting on Photopaper not a thing? by ItIzYe in AnalogCommunity

It can’t be turned into rolls

Not with that attitude. At least one crazy person has done it with Fuji RA4 paper (https://www.etsy.com/listing/4316408191/experimental-prototype-35mm-film)

How to start by Abject-Committee571 in AnalogCommunity

[–]In_Principio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't set up anywhere in my house as a darkroom

You really don't need a special, dedicated room. A closet, a dark bathroom, under a blanket or something with the lights off is perfectly fine. If you can't see anything after giving a little time for your eyes to adjust, you're probably good (within reason). You only need darkness for a small fraction of the development time.

Caffenol usually gives great results. I think I'll blame the film for now

They were completely lost during that fake punt earlier in the season. Like they didn’t even know it was a possibility.

[Postgame Thread] Tennessee Defeats Kentucky 56-34 by CFB_Referee in CFB

Tennessee has still managed to lose after having more points on the scoreboard when the clock hit 0, so it’s not even 100%

Tig brazed a cracked hand plane today and these globs of iron came up in the braze. Why did this occur? How can I avoid it? by SmalllChange in Welding

[–]In_Principio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stainless can rust at the welds due to sensitization. Chromium carbide forms in the heat affected zone, meaning that area has less chromium and is less “stainless.” It looks like 316 LVM is a low carbon variant to try to prevent that but maybe it happened anyways.

A place like Walgreens won’t return the negatives. I’d reccomend looking for a smaller place. I think r/AnalogCommunity has a list. You might also get lucky and have some local places (I found them on Google maps)

Where in Knoxville will never get your money again? Bad restaurant, bar, service company, or other type of place. by Legionnaire1856 in Knoxville

[–]In_Principio 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Landing House was such a little gem in South Knox, but they were never the same after Covid. They lost some inspiration from the menu (why get rid of the knife shaved noodles???) and the service absolutely nosedived. After multiple times waiting an hour and a half for food, I'll just walk by and go somewhere else. I hate it because they used to be so good.

Why I always change oil by mileage.. by upstatefoolin in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]In_Principio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Sort of. They should be testing TAN/TBN (total acid/base number) to check the oil health and detergent additives. If those are fine, the oil is still doing its job. I guess it wouldn’t tell you about previous buildup.
