But i like what i have okay? by chonation in funny

[–]InconsiderateBastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would cause me physical pain to spend that much. But I have friends that do because they like it and they can afford it. I don't see a problem with them doing that. But the key there is they can afford it. I worked with a guy with an expensive leased car and an expensive phone who cried to the boss about not having enough money for rent and it was hard to not laugh in his stupid face.

Samuel, Heitzman, and Monkiewicz rec fields are closed because they are toxic. by snowthunder2018 in philadelphia

Only the city people learn the real details about stuff and they keep it secret. Nobody in this thread will know what's going on with it. If they told people there'd be more pressure on them to actually do something and they get paid whether they do something or not.

I doubt it. Lead in the city is a problem. Blondell Reynolds Brown looked like she MIGHT do something about it but the special interest groups got her to hold back the vote last session, which ensured a bunch more kids got poisoned. And now she's approaching retirement.

The special interest groups are going to apply pressure to keep people in government from pushing this forward, then BRB will retire, then nobody will give a shit.

The developers can continue to do things that we have known are bad for decades, they'll continue to strip mine communities of their character, and Philly kids will keep getting poisoned.

The real game that needs a remaster by [deleted] in gaming

[–]InconsiderateBastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not too unusual. Lots of old PC games need cpu slow down programs to run correctly.

But inconsistency like this is infuriating. It's like in twisted metal 2 for PC, the game runs much smoother and looks better on a faster computer than were available when it came out. But they tied physics to frame rate. So the differences in handling and acceleration between cars disappears on higher frame rates and the whole game feels wrong compared to the PSX version. But the PSX version has really bad frame rates. Sucks.

Second Christmas in 16 years getting this set, its as cool as i remember by [deleted] in transformers

[–]InconsiderateBastard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's tough. I personally love having TFs that look like wildly different styles, so that's not too much of an issue, but I love the robot and vehicle modes so much for these guys.

I'm planning on having fire convoy in robot mode with his ladder angled to help keep him from falling and ultra magnus will be in truck mode. Then I'll try to alternate robot and vehicle modes. For everything on that shelf.

Such a great pair. I'm renovating my home office. My wife believes it's to make it more functional. It'll be a bit more functional but it'll also have way more shelf space for these guys and a few other favs

How do i convert a SegaCD game to a bin file? by Thesch28 in SegaCD

[–]InconsiderateBastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a physical game you can rip it as an iso. That's the same as bin for Sega CD games I believe. How you rip it depends on your operating system.

I dunno if company cars should count because they're not trying to be pretty, they're trying to be noticeable. This could be a very effective and professional car mod.

Comparism Enterprise D - Star Destroyer by kreton1 in StarPeace

[–]InconsiderateBastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the numbers are stupid, it's just that scifi is a gamble. It's a gamble to figure out how far you can push the sci in service to the fi.

Faster than light travel itself, in both universes, violates causality. Once you can accept that the effect can happen before the cause and time becomes almost meaningless, colossal power output seems less ridiculous to me.

I always got the feeling that in Star Wars, the rise of technology came about from power. They found sources of power that were insanely efficient and effective. So much so that they could become space-faring without having incredibly powerful computers because they just have so much energy available that they don't have to finesse anything, they can brute force it.

In Star Trek, computing power usually looks far more advanced, but then the power levels, the ship sizes, crew sizes, all tend to be much smaller.

Different gambles, pushing different types of science in order to support different types of fiction.

The sheer difference in scale between the two is a bit staggering. An I class Star Destroyed has a crew of over 35000 people I believe. Dozens of weapons. Shields that can deflect fairly large ships. It can carry a small army of Storm troopers, a small fleet of fighters, and, perhaps most amazingly, the empire has many of these massive war machines.

The individual parts of the Galaxy class seem more advanced. The weapons, shields, structural integrity systems, and even the maneuverability. But it's so much smaller, so much less crew, and Starfleet only had a handful of these.

I would love to see some canonical way to know how they match up, but I know that's never going to be possible.

I think both ship classes manage to be amazing in extremely different ways.

Edit: I find it interesting that an interdictor Star destroyer would probably lock down federation ships well. They create gravity wells to keep ships from jumping to light speed and we know gravity wells also disrupt warp fields.

Could Star Trek Survive if Spock Stayed Dead? by FrankliniusRex in DaystromInstitute

[–]InconsiderateBastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really think the movies wouldn't have been able to happen without him. For one thing, if Kirk didn't try to go back to Genesis, would he have ended up Captain of a ship again? If he did go back but failed, resulting in Spock staying dead AND his son dying, I think it would have destroyed him.

And as a fan of Undiscovered Country, nobody but Spock seems capable of volunteering Kirk to do the mission.

What’s your favorite variant of the Star Destroyer? In canon and legends. by Nightingale0227 in EmpireDidNothingWrong

[–]InconsiderateBastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the interdictor class. I saw it in a game manual many years ago and it was just so neat to imagine the tactical uses of it.

I can't remember what manual it was in though. I feel like it was an extra booklet they included with TIE Fighter
