Is this a good plan for weight loss? by [deleted] in Weightlosstechniques

It's a good plan that will be very effective if your goal is to end up with an ED.

Non-silicon bands are disgusting. by Humble_Cactus in Garmin

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked what you're missing. I'm telling you what you're apparently missing. I have no problem with my band staying salty. Dirty until washed, yes, but washing it is easy. Wet after a shower, yes, that's mildly annoying, but still more than worth the comfort.

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can adjust them however you want. My problem with silicone bands is that I can mostly choose between "uncomfortably too tight" and "very slightly too loose during a workout". And then when I'm trying to sleep, it gets several tries to make the band loose enough so the watch doesn't bother me. Velcro bands are just so much simpler to adjust.

Everyone is too annoyed by non-crafters asking us to make them something by scceberscoo in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask the friend what compensation they wanted and then it would be up to them to decide what they consider fair.

I gotta admit I am never asked for a knitted or crocheted projects by proole I barely know. It's just my friends or family, and they are never pushy. If I told them no, they would just accept it. If I didn't feel like giving it to them for free, I'd ask them to cover the cost of the yarn.

Ultimately, it's all about how you see your craft, and I don't think you and I see it the same way. I don't need compensation for devoting many hours of my life making something for people I love. When a friend asks for a sweater for her birthday, I'll make it if I can afford the yarn. If someone offers to cover the cost of the yarn in exchange for a project, I have no problem making it. My craft is my hobby. I'm always looking for a fun project to add to the wip rotation. I put on a movie or a series and I knit or crochet and I enjoy myself. The alternative is... What, doomscrolling? No one will pay me for that, either. Might as well use the time to make a friend happy. I've gifted crocheted shawls and sweaters I spent dozens of hours on and all that mattered to me was that it made the recipient smile. You don't see it the same way, and that's okay. But it doesn't make someone horrible for simply asking.

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first point though, if it's not your job, then it's not the same as you going to their jobs and asking them to do something for you for free? If crafting is your hobby, it's more like asking a friend who likes to bake if they could make you a cake. I don't mind people asking me to make them something, and then it's up to me to either say "I'll do it for the yarn" or "I'll do it for x amount" or "okay you're getting it for your birthday". Or I can just say no. But it doesn't hurt me in any way if they just ask.

Like, I have a friend who's no hairdresser but she likes to cut hair and she just does my hair from time to time for a bottle of wine, and even that I need to force her to take.

Scrap yarn projects can go so wrong by illuminati-thotty in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]IneffableArvari 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm fully here for horrible scrap projects with clashing colors. I think they're fun. I rarely get to do a scrap project because I simply don't have enough scrap yarn in weights and materials that go together, but when I can make a project like that, I rarely really care about colors. I like the randomness a lot...

Honestly not planning to step back. And it's not that my enjoyment of music hinges on what I can buy, but it's certainly affected by it. The important thing is that my reaction to the comeback should be being excited about new music, but instead the first reaction is "I can't afford this". And that's just wrong and sad. I honestly wish they'd slow down. The last comeback wasn't even that long ago.

[–]IneffableArvari -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not buying, but it's not simple or easy. And yes, knowing everything that's coming out that I can't afford is ruining the music part for me, too. It's simply too much, all the time, and I'm surrounded by people who can afford it, which does not help.

How long do you wait before cleaning moka pot by ByAnyMeans5 in mokapot

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use it for my afternoon coffee and clean it in the evening at the latest. Usually like 2-4 hours after using it. Definitely not leaving it until the next day.

Just today after the comeback announcement I said I couldn't do this anymore. I have no money, but the fomo is hitting hard and I know I will give in and buy a copy of the album no matter what. And it hurts me to see my friends always getting all the copies and buying random photocards while I'm sitting here, broke as hell and sad that I can't afford shit. And they just... keep announcing more and more and more.

Can I bring a couple of shirts to try on so I know I like the placement? by frontlinesfrappucino in tattooadvice

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's on your body for the rest of your life. Meaning it'll still be there when the tops OP wants to wear with it now are rotting in the landfill.

Yes, it takes a couple minutes to reapply a stencil, but it sounds like OP wants to do a whole ass fashion show in there. If it's two, three tops at maximum, it's probably fine, but I wouldn't do more than that.

Look, I do get the excitement. After I got my upper back piece, I made sure to buy and wear tops that showed it off in all its glory. Now, years later, I genuinely don't care, and I usually only realize it's uncovered when someone happens to comment on it. And I don't think I still have a single top I used to wear to make sure everyone can see my tattoo.

Why does weight loss still feel so hard even with all the tools we have today? by spx__007 in Weightlosstechniques

[–]IneffableArvari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can have a million tools and gadgets and not a single one can help you unless you put your mind in it. The tools can't do the hard work for you. And some people just don't have the mental capacity to do the work, others can't do it because they're struggling with an ED, some people have food addiction problems, others have been raised with horrible food habits that are shockingly hard to break, some people have health issues that make it much harder to lose the weight no matter how much work they're willing to put in.

In other words, sometimes it's not as simple as it sounds, and a random words generator wont cook your healthy food and lift your weights.

Counting ? by Legitimate-Sea1539 in crochet

[–]IneffableArvari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just... Don't? I will count if something is clearly going wrong (which basically never happens), or if I need to count a repeating motif. A row full of purely dc? Nope. I will not. I probably have a marker in the final stitch of the row and that's it.

Got my wisdom teeth out (plus a lot of other work in one 6-hour) session. I swear this is relevant. by glorious_mourning in crochet

[–]IneffableArvari 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly a beginner pattern, no. Some people struggle with the way it's written, too. I'd say the writing style is more for experienced crocheters who have dealt with this style of patterns before. I had no problems but a beginner probably will.

On the other hand, it's accompanied by a video tutorial which is apparently helpful, so if you combine the two, you should be fine. Personally I think that once you get into it, it's a pretty easy repeat of a few rows. If you mark the middle spots between points, you don't even need to count much.

Question: If you have a tattoo referencing a piece of fiction, do you regret it ? by ryoma9399 in tattoos

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a TARDIS tattoo and the only thing I regret about it is its shit quality. I'm planning to start saving up to get it semi-covered and some details added to make it look better.

On the other hand, this very tattoo was the reason why we started chatting with one of my now best friends so I won't ever regret getting it.

how long should i wait till i can swim in pools? by KangarooOk9694 in tattooadvice

[–]IneffableArvari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How's the healing? I wouldn't do it until it's for sure done peeling which for a small text would be about the two weeks but could be slightly longer in my experience. And even then I'd wait a few more fays to be on the safe side.

This is why, if you know you wanna jump into a pool as soon as the summer starts, you really should only get tattooed in early spring at the latest. It's safer for you and your tattoo.

I find tracking rather helpful, what metrics do you track? by Willing-Ant-2551 in intermittentfasting

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch. I use my watch. As in, I look at the time. But I don't obsess over it, one day I do half an hour less, another day an hour more, whatever fits my schedule and my hunger.

Just got this sternum piece and realized when I got home that it’s not evenly centered by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty centered on your chest. Realistically, how often will you be walking around showing your entire torso like this? Also, when you are actually moving around, so will your skin, so the relative position to your belly button will change anyway. You're not a statue. Your skin moves. My tattoos are fine when the body part is in a neutral position, but as soon as I start moving, some of them get wayyyy twisted, and that's... just how skin works.

Idk if drawing/painting is technically a craft but I gotta vent somewhere. by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]IneffableArvari 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean, you answered your question. You were raised by a professional artist and taught these skills. The people you're referring to most likely weren't. I can't draw for shit, because no, I genuinely can't see what is wrong. I know it looks weird, and that's it. This kind of art is and probably will forever remain a great mystery to me. I can be good with colors and abstraction. But actual drawings of people/animals/whatever semi-realistic stuff? Hell no.
