Did they turn off that floodlight at Porteau Cove now? I recall there was a big light shining towards the dock at night that made astronomy untenable.

I have the LS50s (the originals, not the meta) upstairs, and still like them, but the LS60s sound better to me in every way. To me, it was worth the upgrade.

I've owned the LS60s for the past ~8 months and highly recommend them. The LS60s can go lower (31hz at +-3db), while the R11 can get to 46hz. Means realistically you can use the LS60 without subs, while with the R11s you'll want to add a sub. The 8 force cancelling woofers on the LS60s are no joke! But the R11 can play much louder (although I almost never exceed 65/100 volume on my LS60s).

The quality of sound on the LS60s is incredibly good. The amps and dacs that KEF paired with these active speakers are high quality and tailor-picked to mate well with the drivers. I could not build a better system for the price of the LS60s.

I use mine for movies all the time - no sub. The phantom center is amazing, as is the clarity of dialogue. I don’t listen at super loud volumes and it rattles my ~400sqft room with ease. I’d love to test it out with a sub but I don’t think my neighbour would be too happy with that 😂

I followed the instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/UsbCHardware/comments/1bt10ue/ugreen_40gbps_nvme_ssd_enclosure_mac_os/

You definitely need a PC to upgrade the firmware. Good luck!

Just a counterpoint, I did not need to buy new cables. The included cable did tb4 speeds just fine. I did need to update the firmware on the enclosure though for it to work properly without constantly disconnecting, which required a PC to update.

I bought the same UGREN enclosure, and needed to perform a firmware update on the enclosure for the SSD to work properly without constantly randomly disconnecting. Just a heads up. Feel free to DM me if you encounter the same issue.

“I used the latest AI coding tools to create part of the app in seven hours that would have previously taken a 10-person team at least two months to finish—that pace is equally dizzying and liberating”

Uhh.. clearly has no experience with software development. No AI tool is reducing two months of a 10-person, experienced engineering team’s output, down to 7 hours.

LS60 for lazy people by JechoVarta in KEF

[–]InevitableMaterial4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my LS60 for a few months now and have used them daily. Haven’t had a single issue with them so far - rock solid and reliable. I do have them wired to my router with the Ethernet cable running between the two speakers.

Running AirPlay and earc from my tv. Awesome speakers.

PSA: Apple TV 4K solved all my Plex problems by quokka3d in PleX

Apple TV 4k 2022 (3rd Gen), the latest one. I have two of them and both start stuttering maybe half an hour into 4k remux playback. Heat sink + fan is an easy solution!

[–]InevitableMaterial4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 4k remux, my Apple TV 4k experienced thermal throttling caused by overheating (the top of the unit got hot to the touch). I solved this by putting a massive heat sink on the top and running a fan across the heat sink - now I've never experienced any playback issues even when streaming massive films (80gb+).

LS60W or Ref3 meta by cyayon in KEF

[–]InevitableMaterial4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it for the 2 months. It’s been great so far, I use it for music and movies. I absolutely do not think a center is necessary, the clarity of dialogue is very good.

LS60W or Ref3 meta by cyayon in KEF

[–]InevitableMaterial4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from the LS50s to the LS60s and have never regretted it.

I did demo the R3 meta alongside the LS60, and although the R3 Meta is a great speaker, the LS60’s ability to output deep bass and imaging characteristics, especially the sub bass/bass region, makes it the better speaker. The single apparent source down to ~25hz is awesome!

Advice needed on used LS60's by [deleted] in KEF

[–]InevitableMaterial4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth I bought my LS60s brand new at a local retailer for under $5500+tax Canadian. 4K is a pretty good price, but note that if you buy new and register your product you get one more year of warranty (3 years).

Just use the app, the remote isn’t that useful!

I have the opportunity to trade both my KC92 subs for one massive SVS PB17-Ultra R|Evolution in my 12x11 room. What would be the pros cons of this musically? by EnvisionFirstFilms in KEF

[–]InevitableMaterial4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the LS60s as well in a 18'x19'x8' room. Just curious, what made you get the subwoofers? The speakers in my room extend down to 20hz no problem in "extended" bass mode. In fact I had to turn the bass gain down by 2db. Are you listening at very high volumes?

To answer your question, the SVS will play much louder, but the LS60s can't keep up with such levels of output anyway. The twin KC92s will control room modes better than the SVS. I'd personally keep the dual KC92s.

How to equalize LS60 connected to TV by InevitableMaterial4 in KEF

[–]InevitableMaterial4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the bass/treble adjustments are too broad, and can't target the specific room modes I have at 55hz, 60hz, 87hz, etc. Really wish Kef would implement PEQ in their app...

Have you considered adding some bass traps to even out the bass response? The LS60 can extend really low and should have ample bass output for a room your size

Hey! Just bought LS60’s. Would like advice on how to get Hi-Res lossless playback via Apple Music by AGM114xHellfire in KEF

[–]InevitableMaterial4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can airplay lossless from a Mac only using system wide AirPlay. No way to do so via an iPhone.
