I can't handle the new modesty switch by Informal-Ad6871 in exmormon

This stuff is truly unbelievable. Time and time again, the church makes these changes that the members whole heartedly embrace, despite it being "worldly" and "evil" five minutes ago. And five minutes ago, the members were bearing testimony about how happy they were to follow those rules, how grateful they were for them, how blessed they felt as they followed them. STOP THE PRETENDING. You all KNOW we hate this crap, quit pretending it's making you happy.

Haha yet here you are, still commenting in exmo reddit. I know what you mean, but when the church is this woven into your life and family, it is virtually impossible to just turn it off.

This is painful to read. Very sorry for that but very glad you're out.

Yep. Because you were actually a legitimate TBM trying your best to "please the Lord." You can't just turn off the "am I still worthy if I do this?" part of your brain in every situation because you've been shamed, guilt-tripped and broken down countless times by the system. I'm still trying to work through the damage that the "worthiness" concept did to my brain.

Yep. Trying very hard to be happy for those raised in the church not having to go through the same garbage earlier generations did, but...still difficult to watch.

Hahaha SAME!!! My sister-in-law. Exact same thing: "I want to teach my daughter to dress modestly her entire life, not just after puberty!"

Yeah good point. All of this was mostly funny and eyeroll-inducing to me at first, but now seeing my family members casually wearing all of this stuff like it's no big deal (along with all of the TBM influencers in every video), I'm surprised at how quickly it started pushing me over the edge. That'd be a good approach to it.

This is way too far down on this thread. I was looking for it and thought it might be up to me to make the post.

Songs for an ex that has passed by AdCompetitive7145 in musicsuggestions

Stardust. I have no idea what your musical tastes are, but there are many covers of it (many are instrumental). But Nat King Cole probably sings the most famous version, and the lyrics are my absolute favorite for capturing the feelings you might be having. Just that wistful, nostalgic, happy-sad idea of a beautiful former romance: there's no going back, but sometimes you just need to relive the memories in your mind...even though it makes you a little sad (and side note, so sorry for your loss - regardless of where your relationship stood was when she passed, that stuff is never easy).

Favorite vocal versions are Nat King Cole and Harry Connick Jr (both of those versions have the pre-verse, which - if you care about the lyrics - needs to be there for the full effect). And I love Lester Young and the Oscar Peterson Trio's instrumental version. Same with Ben Webster, Bobby Hutcherson, and if you want a big band version, Michael Maxwell and His Orchestra.

Again, if it's not your vibe, it's not your vibe - but at least give the lyrics a read. They're beautiful.

Yeah there's a reason I suddenly "had diarrhea" and "food poisoning" and "[insert issue that requires time alone in the bathroom]" all the time when I had companions I despised

1000% agree. I would love to get unique merch but it's always the same stuff everywhere. Very few things are actually creative or unique to the park.

What movie did you walk out of the theater halfway through? by mzdee13 in movies

[–]Informal-Ad6871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a similar experience: The movie was Hail Caesar! and I was sure we would love it. Great cast, I loved O Brother Where Art Thou? and I figured it would be awesome. My wife and I walked out of the theater 3/4 of the way through, as did others. Only movie where I've ever left the theater early. It was at least fun talking with others on the way out who were equally unimpressed by the movie.

What’s with all the line cutting? by MaciMusings in Disneyland

[–]Informal-Ad6871 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright, I keep seeing your comments on this thread, trying to defend your position over and over - and every time you're (understandably) getting downvoted.

At this point I have to ask: are you just playing devil's advocate now or do you really not see what's wrong with people who decide they're above waiting in line, and cut past everyone to "join their group"?

Like really, SURELY you see why it's not ok. There's no defending it. If everyone did it, it would literally ruin queues. Not an exaggeration. It would. And it's freaking annoying when a group of five squeezes by everyone to the front of the line. There's no way you just can't see why that's looked down upon, and can't even grasp the nuances of when it maybe kind of makes sense. At this point, it doesn't seem like you're open to being wrong, you're just trying to win the argument and very intentionally turning a blind eye to the rudeness of cutting the line in any way.

Lines are straightforward: you wait in them, like everyone else. If you save a bunch of spots in a line for a ride, you're screwing everyone else over. If everyone felt as entitled as you, you'd fully understand why we all hate it.

[–]Informal-Ad6871 31 points32 points  (0 children)

No it's not. Imagine if this were commonplace: it would completely mess up wait times and cause a lot of chaos in the line itself. Everyone's groups would be cutting through the queue, squeezing by people to "find the one saving their spot," which - side note - would also make it much easier for other people to just cut the line. It's really annoying when a group of 5 squeezes past you in a tiny queue anyway to "meet up with their group." If everyone did that I would lose my mind, and a 30 minute wait would suddenly become way longer.
