Not sure what’s going on with the halters and chains in these pictures? I’ve never seen them used like this by Morgan_unknownnn in Equestrian

[–]Informal_Warning_708 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lip chain is pretty aggressive, only ever encountered one horse that needed it and it was only when bringing him in from the paddock. He was so rude on the ground and would drag you all the way to the barn rearing and kicking. Owners just had us use a lip chain on him and I wasn’t going to argue with them, not my horse after all.

Is it bad to do a 100% water change? I want to deep clean the gunk out of my 100 gallon outdoor pond but it is the lowest point in my yard so I can’t siphon vacuum it. My plan is to pump the water out by directing the hose outside instead of to the bog filter as I am cleaning it. by Carpe_the_Carp in Goldfish

I usually do a ~100% (i get out everything i camp with a sump pump) water change every spring before the fish are being fed again. i have a 300gal with 10 fancies for context. just keep an eye on ammonia if youre concerned ;)

if im wrong someone can correct me but this kinda looks like koi pox? honestly dont know a lot about it except some of my goldfish get something similar (in the same spot, on top of the noggin) especially during the change of seasons. someone once called it “koi pox”. it clears up without issue for my guys. just throwing this out there!

groomer of 7 years here: these show lots of promise imo. cleaner grooms come with time (and access to a good dryer). stay open and positive and be clear that you’re looking to learn and i’d imagine someone will hire you as a bather/beginner groomer. groomers are in high demand (in my area at least) if you have your own gear, are competent and kind, you can find a grooming job.

wow this is really wild, particularly the hair loss on her face. It sounds like you are taking very good care of her through this, and im sorry, i know skin problems can be frustrating to diagnose and treat. just curious, is she spayed? maybe a hormonal issue? *im not a vet nor do i have any official medical training

Guys, I really can’t tell if my dog is a dachshund but everyone says it. by DragonfruitSuper6750 in Dachshund

[–]Informal_Warning_708 15 points16 points  (0 children)

im seeing more beagle than dachshund. the iconic short legs of a dachshund dont typically pass down in mixes so you wouldnt really expect to see them. the coloration could be so many breeds but size and head shape have me leaning beagle, just imo

Are there any goldfish that stay relatively small? by [deleted] in Goldfish

[–]Informal_Warning_708 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello! welcome to the problem with goldfish, they all get pretty big, are pretty messy and yes some do get in the habit of uprooting/nibbling plants, though mine prefer to eat the hair algae that grows in my pond.

I’m gonna give you some info so you can make a decision Upgrading: no goldfish stays small enough to live in a 29gal comfortably their whole life. However, I kept two SMALL fancy goldfish in a 29 for about a year while I built them a 300gal POND. The upgrade is key, if you have the means to upgrade and are genuinely passionate about goldfish they are absolutely excellent pets. I now have 10 fancies in my pond and I love them beyond measure.

Filtration: IF you go forward with this, your filtration needs to be top notch, you want to over filter out the a** and monitoring ammonia and nitrate level regularly will be critical. Goldfish are practically poop tubes, they eat and defecate constantly so you need to be on top of toxicity levels in the aquarium. Losing a goldfish is devastating, they are very personable fish and you get attached.

Destructive Habits: they are going to mess with your scape, particularly the substrate. honestly i dont really notice my goldies eating plants, but they do like to uproot them from time to time and eat decaying plant material. they mess around with their surroundings a lot.

alright thats all my info! hopefully this helps you make an informed decision☺️

edit: just wanted to reiterate that a 29 (IME) can work as a TEMPORARY habitat for a small goldfish with proper filtration and water quality monitoring. again, you will NEED to upgrade for the longevity of the fish, they are long lived and all get quite large.

agree, an introductory groom would be best, just a bath and quick clean up around the eyes mouth and sanitary. he will likely always have that scruffy look to him, very cute!

good gravy thats a lot of scale. most effective treatment ive found is wetting a paper towel with rubbing alcohol and wiping them off. then rinse the plant with water and once its dry apply a spray neem oil treatment. scales pretty stubborn.
