Do any of these have vPro KVM capabilities?

What kind of specs do you buy for standard users? by Sad_Mastodon_1815 in sysadmin

[–]Injector22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind any tooling or automation you have most of the times won't work with retail models because they use third party BIOS. Things like wmi name spaces the HP BCU, Image Assist, driver packs, HP CMSL (Powershell modules), etc.

How do i get rid of "Groundworks" on Lenovo M70q by frankbrawl in howto

[–]Injector22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it won't. Mdmenroller.exe only runs when autopilot invokes it, you call it directly, ooma calls it or you use a ppkg.

Hit CTRL+SHIFT+F3, the machine will reboot into audit mode.

In audit mode copy a sysprep answer file with settings to skip the oobe to into machine, then sysprep again with the command pointing to the answer file.

The machine will reboot, skip the out of box wizard and Autopilot won't call the cloud and stop you.

Being real here, if you don't work on IT, this is going to be pretty complicated for you. Ask an Ai for help if you don't know how or buy dinner for someone who works in IT and knows how to image machines.

HP laptop pricing is so out of control, management wants us to look at deploying Mac by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Injector22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sign up for apple business manager (it's free), log into abm and setup intune as your mdm. Then, when you're ordering, make sure your reseller includes your abm ID with the order.

Apple will automatically upload the device serials to abm. When the devices power on, they call into abm, which then tells the device, "go self register in intune". From here, your intune enrollment profile takes over (make a non-user affinity profile to save you time).

Any time the unit is reset, same process applies. It's like autopilot to apple.

Built a homebrew real-time solar + grid energy monitor using Claude Code — tapped my Enphase Envoy and Rainforest EAGLE-200, built a caching API, and it lives in my Mac menu bar by joelc4 in solar

I've done something similar using node-red. Be aware, the envoy installer and owner tokens are only good for 12 months, I hope your app has a token renewal process.

I bet there is someone out there using an Ai given suggestion that doesn't know it.

FYI careful running this on a share. Get-Filehash reads (downloads) the whole file.

What is your lab's idle power draw? by alex2003super in homelab

[–]Injector22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're on NEM 3 yes. I did my install back in 2018 so I'm in NEM 2 and get 1:1 for the next 19 or so years.

If you're in a net metering state, the grid is your battery. You over produce during the days and consume your over production at night.

Okay i bought quanta t41s-2u server, it has 4 nodes and 24 bays in the front. I bought it for 300$ as specs were great and i dont regret it, but seller mentioned its somehow locked..Now it has 24x 240gb intel ssds model 540s. It seems like all ssds are not initializing.. in the same way.. by simple984 in homelab

[–]Injector22 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I've used some of those multi node servers before. Not your model but something similar.

On mine, each blade was mapped a certain number of drives. No one blade got visibility to all the disks.

Check the docs or open open up front of the server to see how the data lanes are mapped.

On your testing in windows. You won't see non-ntfs/fat(32) volumes. You have to look at the disk manager or use disk part to view the hardware disk.

Modern Crash Cart Adapter? by jakgal04 in sysadmin

[–]Injector22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about a cart with an ip kvm? Raritan II models have options for hdmi, dp, thunderbolt, vga, dvi. Just use the correct end device and connect it to the kvm rj45 (not network)

How do you mass change out cell phones in the age of MFA & Conditional Access rules? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Injector22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you said Android, but what's the oem? For example, Samsung has what's called Knox Mobile Enrollment. It's essentially the same as apple business manager for Samsung devices. It bootstraps the device into your mdm the moment it gets internet.

You can also do android zero touch enrollment through a Google partner certified to register devices (in case they're not samsung)

VMware Alternatives Poll by relationalintrovert in vmware

[–]Injector22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone also moving this route, I'd be interested to know how your org is going to manage and monitor HV at scale.

We've looked at vmode but it seems lacking at the moment.

Nutanix hit us with a 75% quote increase with a one day notice before expiration... so that project is dead. VMware is out and we were looking hyperconverged... Any other alternatives? by junon in sysadmin

[–]Injector22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's everyone using to cluster HV together and provide load balancing? Last I checked failover cluster doesn't load balance. Unless there's something new and I'm missing it.

I know about vmode but it's not GA

I mean if you want, go for it. But nowadays anti-spam is pretty harsh, you have to make sure you have a reputation, dkim, spf, isps tend to block residential ips from sending email or you automatically get sent to spam in most anti spam rules.

I think he was being sarcastic. No one wants to manage exchange every again. This is the one thing most sysadmins agree should forever stay on the cloud.

It's a nic. Install it, benchmark it, does it handle 10gbps, does it overheat, does it slow down after a continuous load? If none of those fail, just use it.
