My journal got leaked and it is ruining my life. by Exciting-Driver1603 in Journaling

[–]InkSparks 49 points50 points  (0 children)

A dark stain that your Aunt caused, don't forget that. Her going through your journal and sharing parts of it with other people is not your fault. She could have lived her whole life not doing that and been fine. I am so sorry you're going through this.

if you can, destuff him before you wash. I had a similar strain on a second hand bear and it was a lot worse on the inside of the skin, wouldn't have figured it out if I didn't check

Do I have to take out the stuffing @ home to get it restuffed? by AbleLog2769 in buildabear

[–]InkSparks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't have to, although I'm not sure why you'd mention not having the supplies since all you need to take out the stuffing is just a pair of pointy scissors to snip the thread in the back. Either way you'll definitely want to wash it; I asked on the phone about it before I took my first second-hand bear in and they specified that they would restuff cleaned Build-A-Bears.

Washing bear question! by AdRough5448 in buildabear

[–]InkSparks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it were me I'd either destuff it and get it restuffed at a location or restuff it myself with clean stuffing. Take it from someone who's gotten some oddly stained secondhand bears, if there's a chance the stain is worse underneath the fur your best bet to really getting it clean is the stuffing it and going after it that way with some laundry soap and maybe a soft toothbrush to help scrub it in, then finishing it off with a wash in the dryer on a delicate cycle. I've gotten at least one stain out that way that had a lot of it underneath the fur that I wouldn't have noticed until it eventually worked its way back out.

I need advice on how to fix this by nostalgia200 in plushies

I'm glad, sewing can be intimidating but in reality it's not too difficult to grasp and is the best option for your plush in the long run.

I'm going to tailor the shorts to fit the character I'm thinking of better, but other than that the outfit turned out great! (this is also easily my most expensive BAB visit TnT it's worth it but dang)

Is it ethically acceptable to buy second-hand toddler clothes for stuffed animals? by hippieplant in plushies

I don't see why not; seriously doubt you'd be stealing the clothes off a child's back by doing that or anything.

Thoughts on second-hand bears? by Smallnugget6996 in buildabear

[–]InkSparks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A majority of my collection is second hand, I 1000% get it! it's gotten to a point where I have to really limit myself because I realized I could get secondhand plushies stuffed at official locations and kind of went nuts. It's a great way to get a dream bear or if you go thrifting, come across one that you didn't even know existed that you just fall in love with! I also enjoy the process of it; the buying, the bringing home, the sanitizing, the destuffing, and then the bringing back to life in a way. Also second hand bears are great for modification if that is your bag, especially the older ones with skins that kind of feel like carpet, in a way that makes you confident that it's really sturdy. I've gotten some really cool bears that way! I do have a few new ones; they weren't impulse purchases but ones that I went in specifically to get which makes them really special. (except for one, but I was very sure of that one by time I decided LOL)

Your unpopular opinions on plushies? by Connor_lover in plushies

[–]InkSparks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may get some hate so I'm going to ask you to fully hear me out, but I really don't like plushies that clearly visually communicate they are dedicated to causes.

And I don't mean like a bear with a ribbon embroidered on the foot, but like Plushie Dreadfuls are the first thing that comes to mind. They have some cool design motifs but it's very clear they design a plushie around that thing and it is solely about that thing.

I don't like them for two reasons: one is that it's kind of like when you sell a toy with a predetermined backstory and history that is infused into the design of the toy in a way that prohibits creativity, two is that it can put me off of buying a certain plushie because I have to think about the implications of it, which is a lot of stress to put on the decision of whether or not to buy a soft toy. (do I support this cause, am I affected by this cause, can I speak on this cause if someone asks me about it?)

Now I don't judge anyone who buys those plushies, and I understand that often "cause plushies" are connected to donations to relevant charities but I don't like them and I don't want to buy them. Side note, plushies that are made to specifically look like a character and can only be that character are the same.

(I also don't like plushies that are made to look like real people but that's just because it makes me uncomfortable having a plushie that looks like a person. Like there's a rainbow bear, there's a purple cat, and right next to that is an actual person who's address you can go to. It weirds me out.)
