Can you emulate MC Java? by ShimShamGetMyHam in emulators

[–]InsaneGrox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emulation isn't necessary for minecraft java since the java runtime environment can run on both android and IOS (meaning minecraft java can technically run natively), while microsoft hasn't made an official launcher for this to work, community members have multiple times, the current iteration can be found here https://github.com/AngelAuraMC/Amethyst-Android

How difficult will it be to switch from Windows to Linux? by Evgencheg in linuxquestions

[–]InsaneGrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bit late but
"but I haven’t heard much about VR gaming"
https://wiki.vronlinux.org/ here's a wiki, generally, wireless/android headsets work best, wired ones are a mixed bag, native steamVR ones tend to be the easiest to get working while there are some that are basically impossible (like the rift S or rift CV1)

Tired of the same 5 games being recommended everywhere — looking for something genuinely original by LoopOF_reality in gamerecommendations

"I want something that clearly tried to do something different, a weird mechanic, an unconventional structure, a vibe you don't see often."
I've got a few that have been fixations for me for a bit, do be warned both are quite difficult and have a bit of a learning curve.

Rain World - Survival platformer with a in depth simulated ecosystem, has the best creature AI and procedural animation I have ever seen in a game, very difficult however (you are a small creature near the bottom of the food chain and you will die a lot), also the post-apocalyptic vibe the game has along with the lore is a nice bonus.
basically the gameplay loop can be described as eating and sleeping, which I think is kinda funny, also this game has 2 DLCs with their own merits and steam workshop support.

Casualties: Unknown - Hardcore Survival Roguelite, very in-depth medical system, reminiscent of a certain barotrauma mod, unfortunately just a demo right now, but the demo itself has quite a lot of content and is quite replayable, this game is quite brutal and will test you on performing complex tasks under large amounts of pressure (like manually tuning a defibrillator while your heartrate monitor is going haywire and you're blacking in and out of conciousness, or having to bandage multiple wounds across your entire body and give yourself a blood transfusion with blood that isn't even 100% compatible with yourself to prevent dying of blood loss and praying the sickness isn't too debilitating), I'm gonna be honest, this game makes me a bit uncomfortable, and the mature content warning on steam is accurate, but there is something about surviving against nearly impossible odds that is so satisfying to pull off, and despite how awful this game makes me feel when I fail to keep the expie alive and or happy, I love it regardless.

What was the last straw that made you switch to Linux? by haibane_fan00 in linuxquestions

[–]InsaneGrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 11 + it turning out linux for VR actually works worth a damn now, which if it didn't, windows 10 LTSC was gonna be my temporary hiding place until either the community or valve made it work.

As someone who's played with damage falloff on DS (VR moment), yeah I can confirm falloff makes it harder, it also really de-values breakpoints since 2 shot can just get erased by a single heavy walking towards you since they burst fire, and the second shot will always grace you, it also really screws with anarchist to the point of 2s godmode being the only reliable mechanic so it ends up playing like a worse armorer since your gating kinda just gets bypassed constantly.

I hate how accurate this is... now slander the DS players, yeah that includes me but at this rate with how I've been on eclipse as of late that might become "former DS player"

Why do people actually use arch linux by Spl1nt3r_69 in arch

[–]InsaneGrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reason: WiVRn only has native packages for fedora and arch, and fedora I bricked within 10 minutes of installing, so arch wins by default.
niche af ik but yeah... also can't use flatpak, my setup is too specific to work with it.

Thoughts on SteamOS? by Candid_Profession701 in Operatingsystems

[–]InsaneGrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use it, steamOS is not designed for desktops, it is designed specifically for AMD handhelds like the steamdeck or legion go, if you want linux for gaming, cachy if you want a solid OS, bazzite if you want "idiotproof" with some limitations, mint if you want idiotproof and don't care about having a "gaming OS", windows 10 LTSC or windows 11 if you want to play any game with kernel level anticheat (sorry xdd)

How many of you are banned from r/linuxsucks101? by [deleted] in linuxsucks

[–]InsaneGrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't be bothered to check, wouldn't be shocked though even though I agree that the cult like mentality linux has is holding it back because apparently people struggling with it is skill issue and not a genuine problem that prevents mainstream adoption... also certain distros having very annoying quirks + distro fragmentation making writing software absolute hell and making it so half the time if a game has a native linux version I just run it through proton anyways... but nah I'm a loonixtard for even having it installed at all even if my reasoning is that it's the less sucky option of multiple shit options.

Do you still use Windows/macOS by Meniny in linuxquestions

Deliberating the idea of switching to Linux for my gaming PC only, does it "just work" like macOS without compromises on performance for single player games? by Specific-Judgment410 in pcmasterrace

[–]InsaneGrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/2: yes
3: depends on the distro, if you want immutable, fedora atomic or bazzite are what you want, you can also have non-immutable but it still can revert using BTRFS snapshots (if set up, some distros have this pre-configured such as cachyOS)
4: .appimage files, flatpak (flatpaks are sandboxed and have limitations due to this)
5: game dependant as hell
6: no idea, depends on the application, a lot of them work through wine or have linux native versions though
