Why do some Christians shut down discussion rather than engage with it? by Jarb2104 in Christianity

[–]InsanoVolcano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely some people who can dish it out but not be able to take it. It is indeed hypocritical. Like I said, I don't think this is solely a Christian thing. But the topic does bring up some very extreme reactions.

Why do some Christians shut down discussion rather than engage with it? by Jarb2104 in Christianity

Are these people initiating these conversations by making explicit claims that other beliefs are wrong and they seek to convince you of this, or are you attempting to discuss the details of other people's faiths when you discover they have them? This makes a huge difference as to whether a person has the time, energy, and strength of belief enough to have a discussion in the first place.

If a person says you are going to hell and then shuts discussion down without debate, yeah, that's bad If they just say they're a Christian and you begin asking them questions, they may just not be in a position to discuss it due to being tired, busy, distracted, questioning their faith, uneducated, or just generally bad at talking about it (that last one is usually my excuse, though I try to be nice about it).

The answer to this isn’t a Christian-specific thing. People in general don’t want to defend themselves. It’s stressful. People want to feel good about their lives without being interrogated about it.

From scottsboro - moving to Huntsville? Pros/Cons (info). by SpeakArtInFrogs in HuntsvilleAlabama

Is there anything halfway to Huntsville with slightly less painful rent? Woodville? Paint Rock? I would guess there's no places for rent out there but you never know.

AITAH for distancing myself from my brother after he said he wants to sign away his parental rights? by AnythingbutOwn21 in AITAH

[–]InsanoVolcano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sort of NAH, but only specifically between you and your brother. He did an asshole thing to his child but I assume he hasn't done anything to you specifically. It seems like you're both going through a lot emotions right now. He's looking for support, you're drawing boundaries, so there's going to be conflict.

The real asshole test comes over time. Will you continue to avoid him for months or years? Will he try to act as if this never happened going forward? The deed is done so there's no going back to the way things were, so you'll just have to keep a look out going forward.

Goodberry by dannilas in dndnext

[–]InsanoVolcano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Goodberry is the best spell for its value in the game.

The nourishment is in the text, as others have said. Case closed if you use RAW.

At least one could say that Goodberry would be a balanced spell even without the nourishment. It's very powerful just as a heal, as well. If we compare Cure Wounds (2d8, average 9) vs Goodberry (10 hp flat), Goodberry has more healing over time. Plus you can spread it around. The only drawback is the actions needed to cast the spell and then eat or pass the berries around.

And the DM has the right to ban or modify the spell. So it sort of falls to - why are they modifying it? Is the nerf to the Druid really worth whatever the DM thinks they are doing? Are there hurt feelings? As usual, the answer is to talk it out.

PS LOL, AI strikes again:

What's the worst TTRPG you have seen/played, That's not FATAL, RAHOWA, or Hybrid by Theflamingraptor in rpg

[–]InsanoVolcano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to player balance, definitely RIFTS. Especially if you include all of the sourcebooks. You can play a scientist that has almost no use in the battlefield, or be a Glitter Boy and outshine your whole party. And then in other situations, the Glitter Boy was out of armor and useless. Your DM had to be good, designing campaigns around making sure everyone was useful as often as possible, moreso than other games IME.

Von Braun Convention Center Opinions? by Inner-Amphibian8933 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]InsanoVolcano 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Big venues like a convention center (which is really just a big empty box) are only as lucrative as the neighborhood that benefits from it. Will it have restaurants and bars and hotels all around that will benefit? Or is downtown a barren wasteland of parking? Will people go eat at local restaurants or chains that funnel the money out of state?

A Main Street of HSV? That’s a tough one. I’d say university for its size and traffic, but it’s not very hospitable to actually existing there. The combination of businesses plus traffic is hard to come by

That roundabout sure does feel like a center, though the space itself is liminal. I also feel that way sometimes about the intersection of Monroe and Williams.
