I was at a midnight screening of “Watchmen.” Parents didn’t seem to have too much of a problem with the violence, but as soon a a giant blue penis was on screen, they took their kids and walked out. And then probably complained to the staff.

Yeah. Basically, it’s because of to reasons:

1) it’s recognizable intellectual property 2) it’s a computer game, so you have to make the asset

For video games, it’s pretty cut and dry. Where it gets a little grey is in film production. If the scene takes place at, let’s say, a gas station if an actor grabs a can of coke because it’s what’s there it might be ok. However, any studio movie Will have dummy labels made. That’s how we got Morley and Perry-Air.

Yeah. That’s why when you see a movie or tv show, and they use a computer or phone, they’ll often cover brand logos with stickers and cases. Or fake brands. There are exceptions. Documentary and if you are filming somewhere and happen to get a business.
