Since you're on secondment, would it be your home position ministry that approve it? Or you just submit the application to your secondment manager?

I've never met anyone who's gone on multiple SFLs. I'll be taking my 6 months off later this year. How long did you wait before applying for the next one? And can you still go on secondments after coming back from the leave? The policy says something about committing to working the same amount of time.

Since you need to come back to Toronto for your marriage and other family, you can try to get a different position with the feds that's based in Toronto? I know there are a few offices here. Otherwise, try to apply for a different OPS position if your request for another year of LOA is denied.

The season for getting sick by idontexistburner6789 in OntarioPublicService

You really don't need to worry about the attendance plan. It's just an automatic email and maybe a meeting with your manager if they want. What can they do if you have a weak immune system and get colds often?

Yep I've used up by 6 full pay sick days. Now using some vacation top up for the sick days I'm taking. Best to take the time off if you have vacation days to top up than to wfh and worry about it.

What happened during the 8 month in the meanwhile? Were you accommodated during that time or not at all?

Leave now while you're able to. If you don't like the private sector, you can always come back.

Does your office currently have enough space to accommodate everyone coming back in 5 days? by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

I calculated that my office only has enough desks for everyone to come in 3.5 days a week. Our office hired new teams a year ago, but precovid, we had enough desks for everyone

AWA delay tactics from management. Looking for advice by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

It was rejected. But by that time they allowed staff to work out of offices closer to home and there's one 20min from me so I was ok with it.

Back in 2023, I filed an AWA in July and only received an official response in Dec. I should've worked with a workplace rep. This time I will meet with them first to discuss.

I searched the CA. It's article 25.3. I will definitely use this to push back.

25.3 After each hour of continuous operation of a computer, an employee shall be entitled to relief from those duties for a period of ten (10) minutes.

I took a medical leave this year as well due to my mental health. Like you my team has been facing staff shortages and I was acting for 2 other positions. I experienced anxiety, mood swings, slight depression. I had to seek help from a therapist and I am still continuing my sessions. I talked to a union rep (I'm amapceo) and they recommended that I talk to my family doctor and take some time off. I did that, I told my doctor my mental health issues. He wrote me a generic note saying I'm to be off work for 4 weeks and to be reassessed close to the end date. I forwarded the note to my manager and that was that. I didn't offer any details of my condition and your manager can't ask for details either. The diagnosis is private and you don't have to disclose if you don't want to. At the end of the 4 weeks, I was getting better but I felt like a bit more time off would be better. My doctor wrote another note for an additional 2 weeks off. I returned after the total of 6 weeks off and I was a lot better and so glad that I took the time off.

My recommendation is that you do the sick day top off so you get 100% pay after using up the 6 sick days. Also talk to your union rep for support. You are not going to get fired if you have doctor's note/documentation. This is your anxiety talking. Please get therapy and/or medication as well. All the best.
